  • In ship and of offshore structures, there exist many local panels of various shapes having many kinds of attachments reducible to damped spring-mass systems. For the vibration analysis of panels, analytical methods such as Rayleight-Ritz method or the assumed mode method can be efficiently applied. There have been many studies on the vibration analysis of rectangular panels using the analytical methods but relatively few for arbitrary shape panels. An efficient formulation based on the assumed mode method is presented for the vibration analysis of an arbitrary quadrangular plate having concentrated masses, supporting springs such as pillars and spring-mass systems. In the formulation, the natural coordinate system is used for the efficient treatment of an arbitrary quadrangular shape. Through some numerical calculations, accuracy and efficiency of the presented method are shown.

  • Hydraulic mounts show strong1y frequency-dependent stiffness and damping characteristics in low frequency range, which result from so called inertia track dynamics. A lumped mass has been incorporated in several mechanical models of the literature to take the inertia effect of the fluid in the track into consideration. Although complex s%illness by the mechanical model showed good agreements with the measured values, there exists a critical pitfall. In this paper, the shortcomings of mechanical models with lumped mass for hydraulic founts are clearly identified by illustrating actual measurements of the stiffness parameters for a hydraulic mount. It is conclusively discussed that the inertia effect of the fluid flow through the circular track is significant but latent. As an alternative to the mechanical model, a hydraulic model is claimed to be used for further dynamic analysis of engine/mount system or whole car system.

  • Recently, as high-rise buildings increase steeply, sub-structures of them are often supported on elastic foundation(in a case of pasternak foundation or winkler foundation). And there are many machines in sub-structures of buildings and slabs of sub-structures are affected by vibration which they make. This paper deals with vibration of plates on elastic foundation. Machines on plates are considered as concentrated mass. This paper has the object of investigating natural frequencies of tapered thick plate on pasternak foundation by means of finite element method and providing kinetic design data for mat of building structures. Free vibration analysis that tapered thick plate with Concentrated Masses in this paper. Finite element analysis of rectangular plate is done by use of rectangular finite element with 8-nodes. In order to analysis plate which is supported on pasternak foundation. The Winkler parameter is varied with 10, $10^2$, $10^3$ and the shear foundation parameter is 5, 10. This paper is analyzed varying thickness by taper ratio. The taper ratio is applied as 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0. And the Concentrated Mass is applied as P1, Pc, P2 respectively.

This paper deals with vibration of plates with concentrated masses on in-homogeneous foundation. Machines on plates are considered as concentrated masses. In-homogeneous foundation is considered as assigning $k_{w1}$ and $k_{w2}$ to Winkler foundation parameters of central region and side region of plate respectively, and foundation is idealized to use Pasternak foundation model which considered both of Winkler foundation parameter and shear foundation parameter. In this paper, applying Winkler foundation parameters which $k_{w1}$and $k_{w2}$ are 10, $10^2$, $10^3$ and shear foundation parameter which are 10, 20 respectively, first natural frequencies of thick plates with concentrated masses on in-homogeneous foundations are calculated.

  • This paper deals with the basic concepts of sensitivity analysis in a time domain for the transient response of a lumped mass system. Sensitivity analysis methods in thme domain for determining the effects of parameter changes on the response of a dynamic system by external excitation are presented. The parametric sensitivity of a lumped mass system in time domain can be investigated using different types of sensitivity functions, including first order standard and percentage sensitivity functions. These sensitivity functions are determined as a function of partial derivatives of system variables taken with respect to system parameters. In addition, we compared the results of the analytical method by direct method and those of numerical methods.

  • In this paper, the vibration characteristics of the trapezoidal corrugated plate with axial stiffeners and lumped masses are investigated by the analytical method. The corrugated plate can be treated as an equivalent orthotropic plate as this plate has different flexure properties in two perpendicular directions; flexible in the corrugation direction and stiff in the transverse direction. The effective extensional and flexural stiffness of the equivalent plate are considered to obtain the precise solution in the analysis. The plate is stiffened by concentric stiffeners horizontally to the corrugation direction. The discrete stiffener theory is adopted to consider the position of stiffener. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed approach, the comparison is made with the results of 3D ANSYS finite element solutions. Some numerical results are presented to check the effect of the geometric properties.

  • This study is undertaken for the vibration analysis of tapered thick plate with concentrated mass on elastic foundation. The boundary condition of the plate is analyzed with the 4-sides simply supported and 4-fixed basis. This study find out the frequency following the change in size for each foundational variable on Pasternak foundation, one of the two-parameter elastic foundation parameter that considered the shear layer to the Winkler foundation parameter. The concentrated mass is applied with the consideration of mass of the entire plate, and the change of frequency is studies on each location with the consideration of reacting for the three locations for concentrated mass. And, in order to find out the change of frequency on the thickness of the plate, it considered tapered ratio that linearly changes depending on the length of the plate with the thickness of the plate in x-direction, and the tapered ratio has changes with 4 types ($\alpha$=0.25, 0, 5, 0.75, and 1.0). For the interpretation, the program using finite element method (F.E.M.) is used and the element coordination is used the 8-node serendipity element. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out the characteristics of plate vibration under the mechanica vibration or external vibration factor to facilitate as the basic data of the design to secure the stability.

  • This study proposes a design method for blade pitch control mechanism in order to regulate the power and to improve the starting characteristic. This power control unit which is assembled by spring and mass is planing to equip with 1kW class wind turbine system which is developed for low wind speed area like Korea. For the design of this control unit, the proper geometry of the hub was designed and the calculation of the mechanics was carried out. Especially, It is expected that the operational efficiency will be improved because of additional high pitch starting function by using 2 step spring structure.

  • Mass change in the Antarctic Ice Sheet(AIS) is the most important indicator of changes in Earth's climate system including global mean sea level rise that are largely affected by ongoing global warming. In this study, AIS mass variations are examined with satellite gravity data and outputs from a regional climate model. The analysis of gravity data shows that along the coastal region the Western AIS has experienced a continuous and significant ice loss while a slight increasing in the Eastern AIS during the study period (2002.08-2016.08). The temporal and spatial variations in ice mass changes are recovered by a regional climate model, but the recovered amplitudes are much smaller than those of observations. This under-estimation is remarkably resolved by modifying a base flow field for the ice discharge. The recovered estimates based on the ice-flow field can explain about 97% of the rate of mass change in observations before 2009. This implies that changes in ice flow dynamics along the coast line plays a pivotal role in regulating long-term budget of ice mass in AIS.

  • Instead of securing thermophysical properties throughout the entire lunar surface, a theoretical method to predict the lunar surface temperature accurately using improved Lumped System Model (LSM) was developed. Based on the recently published research, thermal mass per unit area at the top regolith layer is assumed uniform. The function of bottom conductive heat flux was introduced under the theoretical background. The LSM temperature prediction agrees well with the DLRE measurement except for dusk, dawn and high latitude region where the solar irradiation is weak. The relative large temperature discrepancy in such region is caused by the limit of the bottom conductive heat flux model. The surface temperature map of the moon generated by the LSM method is similar to the DLRE measurement except for the anomalous temperature zones where surface topography and thermophysical properties appear in highly uneven.
