  • The purpose of this research is to examine the self-concept in the cyberspace, self-efficacy, relationship with friends, subjective well-being and academic grade among adolescents who are addicted to Internet and those who are not addicted to Internet. A total of 1,057 adolescents (male=545, female=512), 326 from middle school, 361 from high school, and 370 from special education school, participated in the study. The results are as follows. First, qualitative analysis of the conception of self in the cyberspace indicates that those adolescents addicted to Internet reported that in the cyberspace they have fun, followed by they are the same as in real life, they spend time in cyberspace and they can become an imaginary person. Those adolescents not addicted to Internet reported that in the cyberspace they are the same as in real life, followed by they spend time in cyberspace and they can become an imaginary person. When they play Internet games, majority of adolescents in both groups reported that it is fun, followed by they become engrossed and they become aggressive. Second, those adolescents who are not addicted to Internet had higher scores on self-efficacy than those adolescents who are addicted to Internet, including self-regulatory efficacy for learning, relational efficacy, and resiliency of efficacy. Third, the number of friends and close friends that adolescents who are not addicted to Internet were not significantly different from those adolescents who are addicted to Internet. However, those adolescents who are not addicted to Internet were more likely receive social support from friends and were less likely to be social excluded than those adolescents who are addicted to Internet. Fourth, those adolescents who are not addicted to Internet had significantly higher scores on subjective well-being than those adolescents who are addicted to Internet. Fifth, those adolescents who are not addicted to Internet had significantly higher scores on both subjective and objective academic grade than those adolescents who are addicted to Internet.

  • The current study investigated whether in-group bias affects 5- to 6-year-old children's resource-allocation decisions. In Experiment 1, participants were asked to allocate 10 stickers between a friend (an in-group member) and a stranger (an out-group member). Children allocated significantly more stickers to friends than to strangers, suggesting that they made distributive decisions in favor of their in-group members, when they were not the beneficiary of a resource-allocation. In Experiment 2, we examined whether being one of the recipients in the resource-allocation game would affect children's decisions. The procedure was identical to that of Experiment 1 except that participants were asked to allocate stickers between themselves and a friend or a stranger. The children showed selfish distributions regardless of recipients. These results indicate that when children become one of the recipients in a resource-allocation, their self-interests override their preference for in-group members.

  • 85 individual Spiraea prunifolia for. simpliciflora (Rosaceae) were sampled to examine the genetic diversity and population structure of S. prunifolia for. simpliciflora populations. Inter-simple sequence repeats (ISSR) produced 65 polymorphic loci and identified 78 ISSR genotypes. Three multilocus genotypes were shared by more than one plant within a population. Total genetic diversity values ($H_T$) and inter-locus variation in the within-population genetic diversity ($H_S$) were 0.293 and 0.183, respectively. On a per-locus basis, the proportion of total genetic variation due to differences among populations ($G_{ST}$) was 0.373. This indicated that about 37.3% of the total variation was among populations. ISSR markers are very effective in classifying natural population levels of S. prunifolia for. simpliciflora in Korea. In addition, insights into the relative gene diversity among and within populations of S. prunifolia for. simpliciflora would be useful in plant breeding and also for the development of strategies for ex situ conservation of plant genetic resources.

  • In this study, the effects of reciprocal peer tutoring strategy on science achievement, science learning motivation, and self-esteem were investigated. Three classes of eighth graders (N=94) at a coed middle school were sampled for the study. They were divided into the comparison group, the cooperative learning (CL) group, and the reciprocal peer tutoring (RPT) group. Students were taught about the separation of mixtures for 13 class hours. Mid-term science examination scores were used as a blocking variable. The two-way ANCOVA results revealed that there were no significant differences among the three groups in the science achievement test, although the scores of the RPT group were higher than those of the comparison group. In all the subtests of the science learning motivation questionnaire, the scores of the RPT group were significantly higher than those of the comparison group. The scores of the RPT group were significantly higher than those of the other groups especially in the confidence part of the science learning motivation questionnaire. In the self-esteem test, the low achievers in the RPT group scored significantly higher than those in the CL group.

  • This study investigated the effects of grouping method in solving chemistry problems using Think-Aloud Paired Problem Solving (TAPPS). Three classes (125 students) of a co-ed high school in Seoul were randomly assigned to the control, the homogeneous TAPPS, and the heterogeneous TAPPS groups. Prior to the instructions, a test of awareness of metacognition was administered. In the treatment groups, students were grouped into either homogeneous or heterogeneous group on the basis of their pre-achievement levels, and worked in pairs on chemistry problems about chemical equation and stoichiometry. Students' analytical skill, problem solving ability, and awareness of metacognition were examined after the instructions. One-way ANCOVA results indicated that the scores of the homogeneous TAPPS group in the analytical skill test were significantly higher than those of the heterogeneous TAPPS group. However, there were no significant differences among the three groups in the problem solving ability and the awareness of metacognition.

  • This study focused on the perception of career plans(life goals, self-standards, future prospects) based on the experience and satisfaction of career education and experiences of adolescents. To this end, 2,998 adolescents aged 13 to 18 are divided into middle and high school students groups(Inexperienced group, Dissatisfied group, experienced satisfaction group) by utilizing the 'career, career and vocational field' of the Youth Comprehensive Survey. The main results of this study are as follows. Differences by group of career plans were higher in the majority of experienced satisfaction groups than in the inexperienced and dissatisfied groups, and the more experienced and satisfied the career education and experience, the more confident they were in life goals, self-standards, and future prospects. In addition, in the case of self-standards and future prospects, the satisfaction of the inexperienced group was higher than that of the dissatisfied group, and when satisfied with the experience, the average value of the middle school group was higher than that of the high school group. Finally, based on the results, implications and limitations for follow-up studies were discussed.

  • Although tourism has been quite popular as development strategy, the outcomes may vary dependent upon managing stakeholders involved. Thus, stakeholder management has been the subject of growing research interests recently. Collaboration theory was suggested as an alternative to this question; however, collaboration theory may provide potential benefits, it lacks in consideration into stakeholder power relations. The purpose of this paper is two foleded. One is to examine critically collaboration theory in the context of tourism development, and address the necessity of stakeholder analysis framework, and the other is to provide the framework. This paper argues that careful analysis of stakeholders from diverse perspectives should be done in advance, and presents stakeholder analysis framework which consists of six analysis indicators: interest, perspective, power base(resource), involvement, influence, and legitimacy. The framework consists of three stages: (1) identifying stakeholder, (2) assessing stakeholder, and (3) establishing strategies. It is argued that the framework in this paper can be useful to analyze stakeholders and to set up strategy for more collaborative tourism development.

  • The genetic variabilities of second chromosomes of Drosophila melanogaster concealed in Busan natural and experimental populations have been analyzed by the Cy//Pm method. The experimental population was composed of D. melanogaster which had the lethal-free second chromosome, collected Sasang natural population in 1982. The frequencies of deleterious genes were estimated to be 14.3∼25.4% in Busan natural population and 26.5∼27.2% in experimental population. The allelism rates in lethal genes isolated from the natural and experimental populations were calculated to be about 0.76% and 9.76∼14.17%, respectively. The value of elimination by the frequencies of deleterious genes and allelism rate was 0.0106and the effective population size estimated to be about 430 flies at the 6570 days population.

  • In this study, we analyzed verbal interactions among 32 students in 7th graders' science cooperative learning at the levels of turns, interaction units, and conflict behavior units, and compared their verbal interaction patterns between the heterogeneous and homogeneous groups by students' collectivism. The relationships of verbal interactions with the achievement test scores and the increase of the achievement test scores were also investigated. In the analyses of turns, the distributions of the subcategories of the statements related to the task were found to be similar in both groups, and the frequency of 'explain' was highest. The frequencies of interaction units were higher in the homogeneous groups than the heterogeneous groups, and the frequency of 'symmetric interaction' was highest. In the heterogeneous groups, the frequencies of turns and interaction units for the students of high collectivism were higher than those of low collectivism. The frequencies of conflict behavior units were generally low, but the rates were similar in both groups. In the case of the homogeneous groups, the frequencies of 'avoiding' and 'competing' for the students of low collectivism were high, and the frequency of 'cooperating' for the students of high collectivism was high. In addition, the qualitative differences between the two groups were found in the interaction units and conflict behavior units. The achievement test scores and the increase of the achievement test scores were positively related with the sum of the frequencies of the statements related to the task.

  • The purpose of this study was to assess the genetic variation and establish the relationship amongst Hanwoo, Angus and Holstein breed. The genetic characteristics and variability within Hanwoo(300), Angus(80) and Holstein(50) were estimated on the basis of relationships determined using the 10 kinds of microsatellite, which is located on different chromosomes. Frequencies of microsatellites markers were used to estimate heterozygosities, polymorphic information content(PIC) and genetic distances. The PICs ranged from 0.604 to 0.872(Hanwoo), from 0.562 to 0.812(Angus) and from 0.471 to 0.828(Holstein). Observed heterozygosity and PIC of Hanwoo are the highest among the analyzed breeds. Additionally, Estimates of genetic distance can be utilized to identify genetic relationships between Hanwoo and the other breed. Genetic distances(0.233) between Hanwoo and Angus was lower than distances between Hanwoo and Holstein(2.283). Also, Genetic distances between Angus and Holstein was shown for(2,400). The other side, each individuals were not ramified to different group and were spread evenly in phylogenetic dendrogram about all the populations.
