Development and Application of Algorithm Teaching Materials Centered on Plays for Problem-solving Abilities of Elementary Students (초등학생의 문제해결력을 위한 놀이 중심 알고리즘 교재 개발 및 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop and apply the algorithm teaching materials centered on plays(ATMCP) to improve problem-solving abilities of elementary students. For this goal, the ATMCP were reviewed by the expert group and tested them out on 71 fifth-grade elementary students in Daegu, Korea during the 6 weeks. We divided students into two groups: one is the group of the ATMCP and the other is the group of conventional algorithm teaching materials(ATM). And we analyzed the change of the problem-solving ability of each group between before and after using two types of teaching materials with the Mixed ANOVA. The result showed that there was a significant difference in students' problem-solving abilities between before and after using them and the group of the ATMCP was greater improvement than the group of the conventional ATM in a problem-solving ability.

  • The Internet is appearing a new paradigm called Web 2.0 which 'Participation', 'Sharing', 'Openness', 'Cooperation'. Web 2.0 is expanded by experts and general users and many people's ideas can solve more problems than an expert's idea. The collective intelligence is techniques that express the valuable of Web 2.0. For this reason, the collective intelligence has attracted attention because of its potential as an educational tool. The purpose of this study is to develop a PBL-based programming instruction model using collective intelligence to improve students' problem solving abilities and programming attitudes and verified its effectiveness. As a result, the developed instruction model showed significant differences in the students' problem solving abilities and programming attitudes. According to these results, these have been proved that a PBL-based programming instruction model using collective intelligence has an influence to the students' problem solving abilities and programming attitudes.

The Effect of Problem Based Learning on Academic Achievement and Mathematical Attitudes of the Middle and High Class Students (문제중심학습이 중.상위권 학생의 학업 성취도 및 수학적 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Although Korea students have been showed the top academic achievement in the international evaluation test for mathematics academic achievement, they have the low confidence, low interest and unwelcome attention about mathematics. In order to change student's affective aspects about mathematics, we introduced the problem based learning(PBL) method which is based on constructivist learning theories. By applying PBL to the middle and high class students, we investigated the effect of PBL on the students' academic achievement and mathematical attitudes. The study shows that there are the statistically significant differences between a control group and a comparison group both in academic achievement and mathematical attitudes.

The Relation Between Evaluative Concern Perfectionism and Psychological Distress: Emotion-focused Coping and Perceived Efficacy as Mediators (평가염려 완벽주의와 심리적 고통의 관계: 정서중심 대처와 지각된 효능감의 매개효과)

  • This study examined the possible mediating effects of emotion-focused coping and perceived efficacy on the relation between evaluative concern perfectionism and psychological distress. A convenience sample of 241 university students (129 men and 112 women) was employed. Analyses of the structural model for the full sample yielded evidence of good fit. The results support the indirect pathways of evaluative concern perfectionism to psychological distress through emotion-focused coping and perceived efficacy. About 40% of variance in psychological distress was accounted for by evaluative concern perfectionism, emotion-focused coping and perceived efficacy. In addition, the fully mediated model produced good fit to the data across gender. However, there were no differences in structural paths as a function of gender. Implications for counseling practice and future research are discussed.

The Effect of Science Class based on Havruta Learning on the Logical Thinking and the Science Related Attitude of Elementary Students (질문중심 하브루타 과학수업이 학생들의 논리적 사고력 및 과학 관련 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of science based on question-centered Havruta learning on the logical thinking and the science related attitude of elementary students. The number of participants were 93, 4 classes of 4th graders in G elementary school in C city. The experimental group, 2 classes including 46 participants, took science lessons based on question centered Havruta learning while the comparative group, 2 classes including 47 participants, took teacher-driven lessons using teacher's guidebook. Pre and post tests were done before and after executing lessons to assess the changing in each group's logical thinking and the science related attitude. And targeting experimental group, a perception survey toward Havruta learning was carried out and the results were arranged. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the pre and post test results of logical thinking revealed that the experimental group showed higher improvement compared to the comparative group and the difference was meaningful. This implies that question centered Havruta classe has the effect of improving students' logical thinking. Second, from the pre and post test results of the science related attitude, we saw that the experimental group showed higher improvement compared to the comparative group and the difference was meaningful. This confirms that question centered Havruta class has the effect of improving students' science related attitude. Third, the survey regarding perspectives of experimental group students toward Havruta learning showed that students had a high satisfaction level.

The Study Of Parenting Stress, Social support, Coping, Parental behavior In Partial Caregiving-Grandmothers -Comparing with Caregiving-mothers- (지원 양육조모의 양육 스트레스, 사회적 지지, 대처, 양육 행동에 대한 연구 -주 양육모, 부분 양육모와의 비교를 중심으로-)

  • The present study compared the differences in mechanisms of caregiving stress, depression, parenting behaviors, stress-coping, and social support between caregiving grandmothers and the caregiving mothers. Three caregiving groups were compared; One hundred and fifty-two grandmothers rearing their grandchild as daytime care-giver (partial caregiving-grandmother group), 152 mothers who shared the responsibilities of caregiving the same child (partial caregiving-mother group), and another 157 mothers who rear their child as daytime care-giver (primary caregiving-mother group). Predictors of parental stress for these caregiving groups were also assessed. The results indicated that partial caregiving-grandmother group had more depressed than two mother groups, but there were no differences in parental stress among three caregiving groups. In addition, primary caregiving-mothers used more problem-focused coping strategies, and more social support than did partial caregiving-grandmothers. In parental behaviors, partial caregiving-grandmothers significantly had more laxness, less overactive than two mother groups. In the analysis of hierarchical regression, overactivity and depression were significant predictors of parental stress in partial caregiving-grandmothers. On the other hand, depression, social support, and overactivity were significant predictors of parental stress in partial caregiving-mothers. In primary caregiving-mothers, overactivity, depression, and emotion-focused coping were significant predictors of parental stress. We discussed the differences of the predictors in parental stress between grandmothers and mothers.

The Effects of Situation-Based Class using Digital-Storytelling on Elementary School Students' Science Learning Motivation and Scientific Attitude (디지털스토리텔링을 활용한 상황중심수업이 초등학생의 과학학습 동기 및 과학적 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of situation-based class using digital storytelling on elementary school students' science class motivation and scientific attitude for 50 fifth graders in B elementary school in P metropolitan city. In order to conduct this study, 25 students in 5th grade were selected as research group and 25 students in another class as comparative group, and the research group conducted situation-based classes using 8-hour digital storytelling. The comparative group received 8 classes of general science classes by curriculum. The results of this study are as follows. First, the situation-based class using digital-storytelling has a statistically significant effect on elementary school students' science learning motivation. Second, situation-based class using digital-storytelling has a statistically significant effect on the scientific attitudes of elementary school students. It is thought that the situation-based class through digital-storytelling has a positive effect on the exploration of science principles through students' daily experiences.

Comparisons of Middle- and Old-Aged Drivers' Recognition for Driving Scene Elements using Sensitivity, Response Bias, and Response Time (중년 및 고령운전자의 운전장면 개별요소에 대한 재인기억 차이: 민감도, 반응기준 및 반응시간 비교)

  • Middle- and old-aged driver's capability in recognition for driving scene elements was compared. Central and ambient stimuli were selected from natural driving scene and sensitivity, bias and reaction time were measured as dependent measures. The results are as follows. First, in general, older drivers showed lower sensitivity than middle-aged drivers. In particular, the older drivers' sensitivity was significantly lower for the ambient stimuli than central stimuli, whereas the middle-aged drivers showed no significant difference between the two types of stimuli. Second, the older drivers tended to show more lenient responses whereas the middle-aged drivers responded more conservatively. Third, the older drivers showed longer reaction time than the middle-aged drivers, in particular, in the responses of miss and correct rejection. This results suggested that the older drivers' retention for driving scene elements in their working memory may not be stable, which can be resulted in difficulties in rapid and accurate responses in a real life driving.

Housewives' Perception of Time Pressure and Their Consumer Behavior: Purchase Decision-Making on Time-Saving Durables (주부의 시간압박감에 따른 소비자행동 - 시간절약형 내구재의 구매의사결정과정을 중심으로 -)

  • 본 연구는 시간자원의 중요성이 증가하는 현대사회에서 주부가 지각하는 시간압박 감이 점차 높아질것으로 예상되는 가운데 시간압박감이 소비자행동에 어떻게 작용하고 그로 인한 문제점은 무엇인지 밝혀보려는 의도에서 수행되었다. 서울시에 거주하는 주부 546명을 대상으로 시간압박지각정도를 측정하고 이를 바탕으로 소비자집단을 분류된 소비자 집단 사이에 인구.사회 경제적특성과 시간 절약형 내구제의 구매의사결정 과정의 차이가 있는지 분석하였다. 그 결과 시간 압박지각 정도에 따라 고.중.저의 세집단으로 구분되었는데 중간집단에 가장 많은 응답자가 포함되었고 높게 지각하는 집단에 가장 적은 응답자가 포함되었다. 그러나 기존의 연구와는 달리 취업주부의 18.7%가 시간압박을 낮게 지각하는 집단에, 그리고 전업주부의 6.8%가 시간압박을 높게 지각하는 집단에 분류되어 취업주부가 시간압박을 높게 지각하는 전형적인 소비자집단이 아닐수 있음을 발견하였다. 집단별 인구.사회경제적 특성과 시간절약형내구재의 구매의사결정과정의 차이도 부분적으로 밝혀졌으나, 예상과 달리 시간압박감을 높게 지각하는 집단의 시간절약형내구재의 소유와 사용이 오히려 낮게 나타났다.
