  • Purpose : To explore the person-centered care (PCC) experienced by critical patients. Method : This qualitative study deductively examined the attributes of the PCC model proposed by Jakimowicz and Perry. The participants were 16 patients who were recently discharged from intensive care units at a university hospital. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and were analyzed using the deductive method of content analysis. Results : A total of 4 categories, 16 subcategories, and 33 codes were generated from 171 meaningful statements. The final 4 categories were "compassionate presence," "professional interaction," "outstanding competency," and "patient identity." These were consistent with the main attributes of Jakimowicz and Perry's model. However, most of the codes belonged to the "compassionate presence" and "patient identity" categories. Among the attributes of the model, "continuity of nursing," "therapeutic relationship," "expert knowledge," "clinical knowledge," "evidence-based intervention," and "patient's rights" were not derived as codes. Conclusion : These findings deepen the understanding of the PCC model from the patient's point of view. The main attributes of PCC identified in the current study can be applied to the development of practical guidelines for intensive care nursing. In addition, we recommend the development of a PCC measurement tool for critical care patients.

  • The aim of this study is to examine the primary causes of security guard's stress by conducting a survey of 50 guards engaging in security companies in Seoul and Gyeonggido. The following results are attained by an inductive content analysis of conviction interview data through in-depth interview of qualitative study method. 1. Factors of stress related to personal problems. The stress by personal problems is resulted from two factors. One is the physical strength inferiority, which leads to negative thoughts, dismay, mental conflict and tension. The other is complex about not-specializing security, which causes discord with his/her supervisor or co-workers and a feeling of uneasiness. 2. Factors of stress related to human relationship. The stress due to human relations is constantly resulted from discord with his/her supervisor and inclined to be accumulated. The mental conflict is elated in feeling that the manager's instructions are not right. So this factor makes them want change of occupation. Also working conditions are different from those of their friends, which causes them not to spend a lot of time with their friends. 3. Factors of stress related to domestic life It appears that most security guards are under stress due to their spouses' discontent with a small number of wages. Also it is reported that male guards are under stress in case of unhappy conjugal relations. And security guard's life is restricted much more than that of workers in a general occupation because of standing ready for mobilization and 24-hour service. So some of male guards experienced an early symptoms of a morbid suspicion about their wife's chastity and are suffering from insomnia as an occupational disease.

  • We analysed the textbooks of Home Economics in middle school from 1st to 2009 curriculums to investigate the contents and the portion of Food and Nutrition section. The key words were generated by word cloud technique using text-mining, and the portion of Food and Nutrition section was presented as a ratio of the pages. The core key words of Food and Nutrition section through the curriculums were 'raw food'·'food'·'diet'. In 1st and 2nd curriculums, the main key words were related to food materials, condiments and nutrients such as 'vitamin'·'protein'. The words such as 'nutrition'·'eating'·'requirement' were newly appeared in 3rd, 'portion' in 6th, and 'diet'·'adolescence' in 7th curriculum. The mean ratio of Food and Nutrition section in Home Economics was 24.3%. While the portion was as high as 31.8% in 7th it was strikingly reduced to 15.2% in 2009th. curriculum. Besides, Food and Nutrition section was composed of 10 units of middle level category during the 2nd and 3rd curriculums, and was reduced to 2 small units with none of middle level category in 2009th curriculum. Although the contents of Food and Nutrition section has been developed and adapted to the needs of the society through the curriculums, the portion of Food and Nutrition section in Home Economics has been reduced especially in 2009th curriculum, which could raise concerns on the health of individuals and communities.

  • The purpose of this study is to understand the context of cosumers' lives in Korea with a narrative analysis method. The epistemological orientation of eh narrative analysis is Interpretivism, which blends the two polar philosophical perspectives, Empiricism and Rationalism, and includes Narrotology, Hermeneneutics, Semiotics, and Structural Criticism. Narrative analysis takes as its object of investigation the story itself. This study collects eleven narrative plots from four housewives, into which Labov's structural approach is applied. This study shows clearly that the socio-cultural environment in which consumers live has strong influence on their consumption behavior and also reveals that narrativization tells not only about past actions but how individuals understand those actions, that is, meaning.

  • This study aims to identify research trends in adaptation of young children from multicultural families in order to provide insights for researchers around research topics and cultural adaptation orientation of young children from multicultural families. Subjects of this study were 41 literatures with key words of'young children from multicultural families', 'adaptation', and'life'through paper search system. This study was analysed the research themes, methods, subjects, and perspectives of cultural adaptation in adaptation researches of young children from multicultural families, 2006-2017 from peer reviewed journals with analysis frameworks. The results showed that : (a) the most common research topic continues to be about adaptation conditions of young children from multicultural families; (b) among research methods, quantitative research has most frequently used in, followed by qualitative methods, mixed methods, and literature review; (c) cultural adaptation was focused on the perspective of social-cultural adaptation, developmental importance of adaptation in early childhood and problems-based research. It implicated that further researches are need to focused on psychological adaptation and formation of classroom community beyond personal and structural adaptation in preschools.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate research trends of the articles in Math-Educational journals between 1998 and 2006 in a bid to discuss whether the articles evenly dealt with different fields and whether studies on elementary mathematics education were in line with the 7th national curricula. It's basically meant to determine some of the right directions for future research on elementary mathematics education. The articles included in Math-Educational journals during the selected period were analyzed to find out the theme, area, method and subjects of the studies and when the studies were conducted. After checking National Assembly Digital Library by inputting a keyword 'elementary mathematics', 235 articles were found, and a content analysis was carried out, and statistical data on percentage were obtained. The results of this study were as follows: First, there had been steady research efforts about elementary mathematics education, as 20 or 30 studies had been conducted on a yearly basis. Second, as for theme of research, the most common themes were instructional design and method(25.5%), and an analysis of curricula and textbook(15.3%) was the second most dominant theme. Third, regarding the area of study, the most widely investigated area was number and operation (30.0%), followed by character/expression(27.8%), figure (23.9%), regularity/function (8.9%), probability/statistics(5.6%), and measurement (3.9%). Fourth, concerning the method of research, didactical analysis(43.8%) was most prevalent, followed by quantitative research(29.8%), qualitative research(16.6%) and a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches(9.8%). Fifth, as to subjects, many of the studies(21.7%) investigated upper graders. In conclusion, it has to be accomplished the impartial researches for the whole area in order to develop elementary mathematics education and attain the objects of the 7th national curricula.

For this purpose, a total of 596 papers published in eight domestic journals during the recent seven years were analyzed. The results of this study showed that the popular research topics included learners' perspectives and abilities, analysis of curriculum and textbooks, and instruction and teaching methods, whereas studies on assessment and technology or manipulative materials did not get much attention. The results also showed that qualitative research methodology was used a lot with focus on students. The mathematics content strand which was most frequently studied was number and operations, and problem solving was most popular among the mathematical competencies. On the basis of these results, this paper includes several implications for the future research direction in elementary mathematics education.
