Characteristics of Teachers' Questioning to Formulate an Effective Mathematics Discourse (효과적인 수학적 담론을 구축하기 위한 교사 질문활동의 특성)

  • Teachers' questioning plays an important role in mathematics teaching and learning by asking students to react or to participate in mathematical discourse. Previous studies on teachers' questioning have not focused on how to questioning to formulate an effective mathematical discourse which is contributed by students because studies mostly analyzed and categorized teachers' questions according to cognitive levels of questions without consideration of context. Therefore, this study explored characteristics of teachers' questioning to formulate an effective characteristics of teachers' questioning to formulate an effective mathematical discourse in mathematics classrooms. By reviewing and analyzing mathematics discourse and studies on teachers' questioning theoretically, we presented openness, sharedness, and productivity as characteristics of teachers' questioning. Through a middle school mathematics teacher's case, we examined three characteristics were necessary to formulate an effective mathematical discourse. Based on results from theoretical analysis and case analysis, we discussed that openness, sharedness, and productivity would be useful as a framework to analyze teachers' questioning.

A Study on Characteristics of Questions Presented in Chemistry Parts of Middle School Science Textbooks (중학교 과학 교과서의 화학분야 단원에 제시된 질문의 특성에 관한 연구)

  • This study is conducted to analyze the questioning styles of the parts of chemistry in 17 middle school science textbooks in terms of frequency, types, and placement of questions. The instrument was the Textbook Questioning Strategies Assessment Instrument (TQSAI) developed by the Cooperative Teacher Preparation Program, University of California in 1975. An averaged ratio of questionings/sentences (Q/S) of seventeen textbooks was 13.6% varying from 6.8% to 19.7%. Various question types were used in titles, early and middle steps in the sections except late steps. The comprehending questions were most frequent in the types of inquiry courses and the focusing questions were most frequent in the characteristics of instructional courses. The percentages of empirical questions for the total numbers of questions were slightly larger than nonempirical questions with values of 54.2% and 45.8%, respectively.

Confidence Interval for Sensitive Binomial Attribute : Direct Question Method and Indirect Question Method (민감한 이항특성에 대한 신뢰구간 : 직접질문법과 간접질문법)

  • We discuss confidence intervals for sensitive binomial attributes obtained by a direct question method and indirect question method. The Randomized Response Technique(RRT) by Warner (1965) is an indirect question method that uses a randomization device to reduce the response burden of respondents. We used the mean coverage probability (MCP), root mean squared error (RMSE), and mean expected width (MEW) to compare the confidence intervals by the two methods. The numerical comparisons indicated found that the MEW of RRT is too large and the RRT is so conservative that the MCP exceeds a nominal level(${\alpha}$); therefore, it is necessary to complement these problem in order to increase the utility of the indirect question method.

The Effects of Authentic Open Inquiry on Cognitive Reasoning through an Analysis of Types of Student-generated Questions (학생들이 제시한 질문의 유형 분석을 통한 개방적 참탐구 활동의 인지적 추론 측면의 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate if students may actually experience scientific reasoning based on an epistemology of authentic science during authentic open inquiry. The samples were 86 10th graders in a science-high school in Seoul. The experimental group practiced authentic open inquiry and the control group practiced traditional school science inquiry in five weeks. Then, the questions students asked while performing inquiry tasks were analyzed. The frequency of the questions asked by students was almost same between two groups, however, the types of questions were different. The frequency of thinking questions in experimental group was higher than the control, and the difference was statistically significant (P<.01). Particularly, the frequency of expansive thinking questions and anomaly detection questions was much higher in experimental than the control group. Judging from the result, with the students from the experimental group asking questions reflecting on the epistemology of authentic science such as scientific methods, anomalous data, and uncertainty about reasoning, students may understand authentic science features during the activities of open authentic inquiry. The result from comparing questions according to the inquiry subject showed that more openness caused the higher frequency of anomaly detection questions and strategy questions, but that inductive thinking questions and analogical thinking questions were connected to inquiry subject rather than the openness of the inquiry.

  • 기계 독해는 입력 받은 질문과 문단의 관계를 파악하여 알맞은 정답을 예측하는 자연어처리 태스크로 양질의 많은 데이터 셋을 필요로 한다. 기계 독해 학습 데이터 구축은 어려운 작업으로, 문서에서 등장하는 정답과 정답을 도출할 수 있는 질문을 수작업으로 만들어야 한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여, 본 논문에서는 정답이 속한 문서로부터 질문을 자동으로 생성해주는 BERT 기반의 Sequence-to-sequence 모델을 이용한 한국어 질문 생성 모델을 제안한다. 또한 정답이 속한 문서와 질문의 언어가 같고 정답이 속한 문장의 주변 단어가 질문에 등장할 확률이 크다는 특성에 따라 BERT 기반의 Sequence-to-sequence 모델에 복사 메카니즘을 추가한다. 실험 결과, BERT + Transformer 디코더 모델의 성능이 기존 모델과 BERT + GRU 디코더 모델보다 좋았다.

Improvement in University Freshmen's Questioning by Explicit Practice of Experts' Physics Problem Solving Strategies (전문가의 물리 문제 풀이 방략 가시화 연습에 의한 대학생의 질문 향상)

  • It was proposed that proper problem solving practice should improve students' questioning in physics. In the previous researches, improvement in students' questioning was observed after practice of making questions given the examples of desirable questions. In this study, the problem solving strategies used by experts were introduced to students in the form of step-by-step guide to follow in problem solving practice. The directions in the guide were concrete and operational for students to understand the expected behaviors explicitly. It was assumed that students could pinpoint the difficulty specifically through this guide, which would result in positive effects on students' recognition and expression of their own questions. The subjects in this study were college freshmen enrolled in the introductory physics for science or engineering major. The physics problems from the textbook were solved and practiced in the traditional way for controlled group. Worksheets designed to follow experts' problem solving strategies were used for the experimental group. Two groups were taught in the same way during lecture part of the class. Students were asked to describe the difficulties they had during homeworks or tests. Questions in this study means these descriptions written by students although they were not necessarily in the form of interrogative sentences. The questions were analyzed both in quantity and quality. Quantitatively, more students spontaneously turned in their questions in the experimental group than in the controlled group. Regarding the quality, there were more students in the experimental group than in the controlled group who described their difficulties in detail or recognized the need for the procedural knowledge.

A Study on Question-Order and Question-Intention Effects in Surveys of Job Satisfaction (직무만족 조사에서의 질문 순서 및 질문 의도 효과에 관한 연구)

  • The results of the response in the Self-report survey are occurred differently according to situational factors and personal characteristics. This study attempts to examine the effects of the question-order and question-intentions in surveys of job satisfaction. Four types of questionnaires were used in consideration of the difference between Whole Questions and detail Questions in question-order and the difference between job satisfaction measurement and job dissatisfaction measurement in question-intentions. This study surveyed 94 employees. As a result, the order and intention of questions could affect respondent's answers. However, It was not statistically significant support. Also, this study suggest significant implications, limits of this study and research direction of future study.

  • 국립국어원의 온라인 가나다 서비스는 한국어에 대한 다양한 질문과 정확한 답변을 제공한다. 만일 새롭게 등록되는 질문에 대해 유사한 질문을 자동으로 찾을 수 있다면, 질문자는 빠른 시간에 답변을 얻을 수 있고 서비스 관리자는 수동 답변 작성의 부담을 덜 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 국립국어원 질의응답게시판의 특성을 분석하여 질문의 주제를 6가지로 분류하고, 주제 분류 정보와 벡터 유사도, 수열 유사도를 결합하여 유사한 질문을 검색하는 시스템을 제안한다. 평가에서는 본 논문에서 제시한 주제 분류 정보를 활용한 결과 1위 정답 검색 정확률이 향상되는 결과를 얻었다. 최종 실험에서는 MRR이 0.62, 정답이 1위, 5위내에 검색될 확률은 각각 54.2%, 78.2%를 보였다.

Retrieval Effectiveness of the Two Indexing Systems in the Water Resources : A Qualitative Analysis (수자원분야 색인시스템의 검색효율 비교와 질적 분석)

  • The previous study showed a large variation in performance within the queries and suggested that characteristics of queries cotribute to retrieval performance. Three attributes, specificity, complexity and recency were used to analyze the different results within queries. The result showed that subject searching retrieve more relevant documents for a Query with low specificity than a query with high specificity and that queries from the doctoral students' dissertations were specific queries with high specificity.

  • 시각적 질의응답(Visual Question Answering, VQA)은 주어진 이미지에 연관된 다양한 질문에 대한 올바른 답변을 예측하는 기술이다. 해당 기술은 컴퓨터 비전-자연어 처리 연구분야에서 활발히 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 질문의 의도를 정확히 파악하고, 주어진 이미지에서 관련 단서 정보를 찾는 것이 중요하다. 또한, 서로 이질적인 특성을 지닌 정보(이미지 객체, 객체 위치, 질문)를 통합하는 과정도 중요하다. 본 논문은 질문의 의도에 알맞은 정보를 효율적으로 사용하기 위해 멀티 모달 입력 이미지 객체, 객체 위치, 질문)에 대한 Multi-modal Message Aggregation (MMA) 제안하며 이를 통해 한국어 시각적 질의응답 KVQA에서 다른 모델보다 더 좋은 성능을 확인하였다.
