  • 대기 중의 부유분진 (suspended particulate matters)은 대기오염을 측정하는 일반지표 중의 한 항목으로, 보통 대기의 단위부피당 질량으로 그 오염정도를 판단하고 있다. 대기 중 부유분진은 입경별 농도분포에 따라 통해 오염원의 특성을 파악할 수 있고, 여러 오염원에서 배출되어지는 여러 화학물질들로 구성되어 있기 때문에 인체 위해성 측면에서 많은 관심의 대상이 되어 왔다. 또한 다환방향족탄화수소 (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons, PAHs)는 환경에 존재하는 중요한 발암물질이자 돌연변이 유도체이다.(중략)

Analysis of respiration gas of a fertile chicken egg during incubation by gas mass spectrometer (기체질량분석기를 이용한 유정란 부화과정의 호흡량 분석)

  • Oxygen($O_2$) consumption and carbon dioxide($CO_2$) excretion of a fertile chicken egg during incubation were measured by a gas mass spectrometer. A closed sample chamber was developed to collect gas samples during the 20 days of artificial incubation of both a fertile and an infertile egg. After leaving an egg in the sample chamber for an hour, using a gas-tight syringe, samples of 2 mL of gas were collected from the closed sample chamber and analyzed using a gas mass spectrometer in 2~4 day intervals. The $O_2$ consumption and $CO_2$ excretion of chicken embryos increased rapidly after 10 days from the starting point of incubation. After 20 days, 23 mL of $O_2$ was consumed and 16 mL of $CO_2$ was excreted per hour. Throughout the whole period of incubation, concentration of $O_2$ decreased 4.3 mol% and $CO_2$ increased only 3.1 mole%, i.e., the mole of consumed $O_2$ and the mole of excreted $CO_2$ were not the same. On the other hand, during the same period, concentration of $N_2$ increased about 1.3 mol% and the increased mole fraction of $N_2$ was comparable with the difference (1.2 mol%) between the mole fraction of consumed $O_2$ and excreted $CO_2$. Therefore, we can attribute the increase of $N_2$ mole% to the difference of mole fraction between consumed $O_2$ and excreted $CO_2$. In this study, through the analysis of gas, we could explain the respiration of a fertile chicken egg during incubation.

A Study on the Measurement of Activity Concentrations of Pu and Am and Their Isotopic Ratios in the Radioactively Contaminated Soil (방사능으로 오염된 토양에 대한 Pu 및 Am 방사능 농도 및 동위원소비 측정에 대한 연구)

  • Soil samples collected from around the BOMARC Missile Site were measured for their activity concentrations and isotopic ratios of Pu and Am isotopes with particle sizes. The activity concentrations of Pu and Am in the BOMARC soil were remarkably higher than the fallout levels, and the activities decreased nearly exponentially with an increasing particle size of the soil due to a decreasing surface area. The activity ratios of Pu-238 / Pu-239, 240, Pu-241 / Pu-239, 240 and Am-241 / Pu-239, 240 observed in the BOMARC soil were much lower than those attributed to the nuclear reprocess plants and the Chernobyl fallout. Also, the atomic ratio of Pu-240 / Pu-239 in the BOMARC soil was remarkably lower than the fallout value influenced by the nuclear weapons testing and the Chernobyl accident. The atomic ratio of Pu-240 / Pu-239 was so close to the value of the weapons grade Pu released from the crash of a B52 plane in the Thule of the Greenland, such that the Pu isotopes detected in the BOMARC soil could have originated from the weapons grade plutonium.

Adhesion of Escherichia coli to Quartz and Iron-coated Sands in the Presence of Phosphate (인산염의 존재 하에서 Escherichia coli의 석영 및 철피복 모래에의 부착)

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of phosphate on the adhesion of Escherichia coli to porous media. Column experiments were performed to examine the effect of phosphate on bacterial adhesion to quartz sand and iron-coated sand. Results showed that bacterial mass recovery in quartz sand decreased from 74.5 to 35.4% as phosphate concentration increased from 0 to 16 mg/L. This indicated that bacterial adhesion to quartz sand was enhanced with increasing phosphate concentration. This phenomenon is due to the increase of ionic strength. In contrast, the mass recovery in the coated sand increased from 2.9 to 26.0% as phosphate concentration increased. This indicated that bacterial adhesion to the coated sand was reduced with increasing phosphate concentration, due to the preoccupation of favorable adsorption sites and competitive adsorption by phosphate.

  • Acid effects on the ICP-AES signals are studied as the concentrations of nitric acid, hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, and 1:1 mixture of nitric acid and hydrochloric acid are changed. Almost all analyte signals are depressed. The extent of the depression due to the pressence of the acids became to be pecular when the acid concentration was over 1%. Among the acids used, the suppression due to sulfuric acid is most severe and unexpectable. The ratios of the analyte signal to Ar signal and the Mg II signal to Mg I signal are measured as the concentration of the acids changed. In this study, it is proved that the main reason of the signal reduction is the change in the nebulization efficiency, for example, droplet size distribution, viscosity and surface tension variation, not the alteration of plasma excitation characteristics. There was no relationship found between ionization potential and analyte signal reduction in ICP-MS.

A Kinetic Study of Thermal-Oxidative Decomposition of Waste Polyurethane (폐폴리우레탄의 열적 산화분해에 대한 속도론적 연구)

  • The kinetics of the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste polyurethane (PU) according to oxygen concentration has been studied using a non-isothermal thermogravimetric technique at several heating rates from 10 to $50^{\circ}C/min$. A kinetic model accounting for the effects of the oxygen concentration by the differential and integral method based on Arrhenius equation was proposed to describe the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste PU. To obtain the information on the kinetic parameters such as activation energy, reaction order, and pre-exponential factor, the thermogravimetric analysis curves and its derivatives have been analyzed using the kinetic analysis method proposed in this work. From this work, it was found that reaction orders for oxygen concentration had a negative sign, and activation energy decreased as the oxygen concentration increased. It was also found that the kinetic parameters obtained from the integral method using the single heating rate experiments varied with heating rates. Therefore, it is thought that the differential method using the multiple heating rate experiments more effectively represents the thermal-oxidative decomposition of waste polyurethane.

Saccharification Characteristics and Kinetic Analysis of Modified Cellulase with a Copolymer (공중합 고분자를 이용한 수식셀룰라아제의 당화 특성 및 반응속도에 관한 연구)

  • Cellulase was modified with synthetic copolymers of polyoxyethylene derivative and maleic acid anhydride. The saccharification characteristics and enzymatic reaction kinetic mechanism of modified and native cellulases were observed. In modification reaction of cellulase, degree of modification(DM) increased, as mass ratio of copolymers to enzyme increased. Maximum DM was 55% at mass ratio of 4 and remained activity was 75%. In saccharification experiment modified enzyme had maintained higher stability than native enzyme over all the reaction and the final conversion yield of modified enzyme was greater than that of native enzyme. Numerical simulation based on the reaction mechanism considering enzymatic deactivation was performed. Modified enzyme had kept higher free enzyme concentration over all the reaction than that of native enzyme. Comparing calculation values with experimental data, calculation values were in accordance with experimental data.

  • 오염물질 유출 사고가 발생했을 경우 안전한 수자원의 관리 및 공급을 위해 오염물질의 혼합거동에 대한 정확한 해석이 필요하다. 하천에 유입된 오염물질의 혼합 거동에 영향을 미치는 인자들은 다양하지만, 수리구조물 등에 의해 발생한 저흐름 영역에 의해 오염물질이 정체되는 현상에 대한 연구는 아직 미흡한 실정이다. 특히, 국내 하천에는 약 33,000여 개가 넘는 취수보가 설치되어 있으며, 이 보들은 대부분 광정보 형태의 농업용수 취수를 목적으로 하고 있다. 이러한 보에는 저유량 시기에 보 상하류간의 흐름을 원활하게 하기 위한 노치(notch) 형태의 배수로가 설치되어 있으며, 노치로 인하여 보 상류쪽에 연직방향 뿐만 아닌 수평방향 흐름장의 변화 및 저흐름 영역이 형성된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는, 노치가 설치된 보 구조물 주변에서의 수평 방향 흐름 구조 및 오염물질의 혼합 거동을 분석하여 하천 저장대 모형의 매개변수를 산정하였다. 저흐름 영역에 의하여 오염물질의 정체현상이 발생할 경우, 일반적으로 오염물질 혼합 해석에 사용되는 Fickian 이송-확산 모형은 농도의 공간 분포를 잘 재현하지 못하기 때문에 non-fickian 모형인 하천 저장대 모형이 널리 사용되고 있다. 하천 저장대 모형에서의 주요 매개변수로는 저장대 영역(저흐름 영역)의 면적과 질량교환계수가 있으며, 본 연구에서는 노치의 조건 변화에 따른 저장대 영역 및 질량교환계수의 변화를 분석하기 위하여 수리실험을 수행하였다. 노치의 조건 변화에 따른 저장대 모형의 매개변수 산정을 위하여 보 구조물이 설치되어 있는 개수로에서 수리실험을 수행하였으며, 광범위의 수평방향 흐름구조 및 오염물질의 혼합거동을 분석하기 위하여 LSPIV(Large Scale Particle-Image-Velocimetry) 및 PCA(Planar-Concentration-Analysis) 기법을 이용하여 유속 및 오염물질의 농도자료를 취득하였다. 취득된 유속 자료 및 농도자료를 바탕으로 보 상류에 위치한 저흐름영역의 크기 및 저흐름 영역과 주 흐름 영역 사이의 농도변화를 분석하였다. 실험자료 분석결과, 노치의 간격이 커질수록 저흐름영역의 크기 또한 증가하였으며, 오염물질의 체류시간 또한 증가하는 것으로 밝혀졌다.
