Electric Resistance Surface Friction Spot Welding Process of AZ31 Mg Alloy Sheets by Using Rotating Dies (회전금형을 사용하는 AZ31 마그네슘 합금판재의 전기저항 표면마찰 스폿용접)

  • Magnesium material could be widely used in the automotive industry because of its high strength to weight ratio, but the electric resistance spot welding process of magnesium sheets is difficult because of its low electric resistance and high thermal conduction and thermal expansion. For this reason, an electric resistance surface friction spot welding process using rotating dies is suggested for the spot welding of magnesium metal sheets. This welding method can be characterized by three heating methods: (1) electric resistance heating on contacted surface, (2) surface friction heating by rotating dies, and (3) thermal conduction heating from heated steel electrodes, for the fusion of metal at the interfacial zone between the two magnesium sheets. This welding process also has variables to explore, such as welding currents, diameters of the steel electrode, and rotating dies. It was found that the welding strength could reach industrial requirements by applying a welding current of 11.0kA, with steel electrodes of 12mm diameter, with rotating dies of 4.4 mm diameter, under the condition of a revolution speed of 1200rpm of rotating dies, for the surface friction spot welding process of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets of 1.4mm thickness.

Effect on the Relay Contact Characteristics According to the Presence of Electrical Connection (릴레이 접점 특성에 미치는 전기적 접속의 영향)

  • The power relay can easily control high voltage and high current through metallic contacts. In addition, it has the advantage in reasonable price. So it has been used in many applications. But the power relay has a weak point by mechanical movements. These mechanical movements cause the bouncing phenomenon. Arc and bouncing phenomenon are the main causes of electric abrasion and material erosion. In this study, mechanical repetitive experiments and repetitive experiments in electrically connected state are conducted. Then these two experimental results in terms of bouncing phenomenon and changes in the contact surface are compared. In all number of repetitions, contacts in an electrically connected state cause smaller number of bounce. Also, It has lower contents of silver on eroded surface than the other. The experimental results would be helpful to the further study of contacts life span.

Effect of Doping Si in DLC Thin Films Growth on Their Mechanical Properties

  • Diamond-like Carbon(DLC) films doping Si were deposited by linear ion source(LIS)-physical vapor deposition method on Si wafer. We have studied the effects of Si content on friction and wear properties of DLC films and the characteristics of the films were investigated using Nano-indentation, Micro raman spectroscopy, Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscope (FM-SEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). The films has been various low-friction and low-stress by varying the flow rates of silane gas. Under the about 2% of Si doping is very suitable for improving the adhesion of films and reducing internal stress while maintaining the surfaces hardness of DLC films. Linear ion source (LIS)를 사용하여 Si wafer위에 Si 이온이 첨가된 DLC 박막을 증착하였다. 참가된Si 이온의 양에 따라 DLC 박막에 미치는 영향을 분석하기 위하여 마찰 계수 및 경도를 비교하였고, Micro raman spectroscopy, Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscope (FM-SEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)를 통하여 표면 상태를 분석하였다. 천체 주입된 가스량의 약 2%까지 Si 이온 주입이 늘어날수록 DLC 박막의 마찰계수는 낮아졌고, 경도는 Si 이온이 주입되지 않았을 경우와 비슷한 값(약 20~23 GPa)을 가졌다. 2% 이상의 주입량에서는 마찰계수는 주입량이 늘어날수록 높아졌으며 경도는 떨어지는 경향을 보였다. 이는 Si이온이 2%이하로 첨가되었을 경우, DLC 박막의 생성시 탄소 이온들의 결합 Stress를 줄여 마찰계수가 줄어든다고 볼 수 있으며, 그 양이 2%이상이 되면 오히려 불순물로 작용하여 DLC 박막의 Stress는 급격히 증가하고 마찰계수도 높아짐을 알 수 있다.

Forming Simulation of the Extrusion Process by Rotating Extrusion Dies (회전압출다이를 이용한 압출가공에 관한 성형 해석)

  • In the previous experimental study about extrusion of circular product with four helical fins, it was known that product with helical fins may not to be rotated during extruding with rotating extrusion dies in spite of using twisted dies. According to the results of experiments with Plasticin material, it was anticipated that the extrusion load could be reduced if rotating dies could be used, because it needs high pressure in order to twist billet and form fin shape on the surface of product in the case of using conventional fixed helical dies. So, in this paper, according to the extrusion load analyzed by DEFORM-3D software, optimal rotational velocity of rotating dies can be obtained, and the twisting, angle of product can be analyzed during extruding product with helical fins in the case of two types of rotating of dies. The results of analysis by DEFORM-3D show that the twisting angle of product can be controlled by twisted angle of extrusion helical dies and the rotational velocity of helical dies.

  • The bending phenomenon has been known to be occurred by the difference of velocity at the die exit. The difference of velocity at the die exit section can be obtained by the different velocity of billets inside die chamber after passing the multi-hole container. The curvature can be controlled by the two variables, the one of them is the different velocity of billets through the multi-hole container, the other is the difference of hole diameter. The bending phenomenon during extruding using four billets can be obtained by the difference of hole diameters in the multi-hole container or by the difference of relative velocity of billet inserted in the container. As results of DEFORM-3D analysis, it can be shown that bending can be obtained during extruding by the difference of relative velocity of two billets or by the difference of hole diameter, and the amount of curvature is increased by the difference of velocity and diameter. According to the shape of products, the curvature of rectangular section is bigger than the curvature of regular square section. And, it is estimated that, because the stress on the welding line is much higher than yield stress of material, the bonding of four billets can be obtained.

Study on the curving phenomenon of rectangular shaped product in extrusion process (사각형 단면을 가진 제품의 압출가공시 제품의 굽힘현상에 관한 연구)

  • The kinematically admissible velocity field is developed for the analysis of extruded products. The curving of product in extrusion is caused by the linearly distributed longitudinal velocity on the cross-section of the workpiece at the die exit. In the analysis, the longitudinal velocity in extrusion direction is divided into the uniform velocity and the deviated velocity. In order to satisfy the requrement of the kinematically admissible velocity field, the average value of the deviated velocity should be zero. At the same time, it should linearly change with the distance form the center of gravity of the cross-section of the workpiece. The results of the analysis show that the curvature of product increses with increses in eccentricity of gravity center of the cross-section of workpiece at die entrance form that of the cross-section at the die exit.   • It was investigated that two rods of aluminium can be welded by hot extru-pressure welding method with stepped welding dies, and that the welding pressure on the welding surface were analyzed by computer simulation according to the stepped shapes of welding dies. It was known by computer simulation that welding pressure on the welding section of rods welded using stepped welding dies without eccentricity is lowerer than the welding pressure of rods welded using stepped welding dies with eccentricity of welding surface, and that the welding pressure on the welding section of rods using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies is higher than the welding pressure of rods using stepped welding dies without eccentricity. And it was known by experiments that two rods of aluminium can be welded on the end sections by hot pressure welding method using eccentric-inclined stepped welding dies without relative rotational movement of contacted aluminium rods needed for the purpose of friction heating and pressure.

  • In this study, a new spot welding with electric resistance heated dies is suggested for the spot welding of non-ferrous metal plates for drawing and concurrent spot welding. This welding method involves two heating processes such as heating by conduction of electric resistance heated dies and heating by resistance between contacted surfaces of two plates by welding current induced to copper dies for the fusion of contacted metal. This welding process has welding variables such as current induced in heated and copper dies, the inner diameters of heated dies, and edge shape of the copper dies. Experimental conditions for each current should be established to get successful welding strength. The welding strength could reach to the desired value in industrial fields under the following conditions of contact diameters of heated dies in this case of overlapped aluminum5052 plates with 0.3-mm thickness: inner and outer diameters of 5.0 and 16mm, respectively; diameter of copper dies, 5.0mm; heating current, 6.8kA in heated steel dies; welding current, 8.6 kA in copper dies.

CVD공정에 의해 증착된 DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) 박막의 질화층 형성에 따른 밀착력 특성 연구

  • Diamond-like carbon (DLC)은 낮은 마찰력과 높은 내마모성 및 내식성등과 같은 우수한 물성을 가지고 있다. 따라서, DLC 박막은 다양한 응용분야에 적용이 가능한 코팅이다. 특히, DLC 박막의 낮은 마찰력과 고경도 특성은 자동차 산업 및 금형과 같은 저마찰 및 내마모성 향상에 기여할 수 있는 매력적인 박막 코팅으로 각광받고 있다. 그러나 DLC 박막의 높은 잔류응력과 다른 기판의 화학적 친화력을 감소시키는 탄소-탄소 결합의 불안정성 때문에 금속소재와의 낮은 접합력으로 인하여 그 응용에 어려움을 격고 있다. DLC 박막의 접합력 향상을 위하여 모재에 활성 스크린 플라즈마 질화 장비를 사용하여 금속 시편에 질화처리를 하였다. 질화처리후 CVD법으로 DLC 박막을 증착하였으며, 박막의 특성은 나노 인덴테이션, 마이크로 라만 스펙트로스코피 그리고 주사전자현미경에 의해 측정되었다. 활성 스크린 질화 장비에 의해 처리된 시편의 특성변화는 GDS, XRD 및 마이크로 비커스 경도계를 이용하여 관찰하였다. 박막과 모재와의 밀착력은 스크래치 테스트에 의해 측정 하였으며, 질화층이 형성됨으로 인해 모재의 상구조와 경도의 변화가 생겼고, 이로 인해 DLC박막과 모재의 밀착력이 상승하였음을 알 수 있었다.

An Exploratory Study of Important Information on Consumer Reviews in Internet Shopping (인터넷 쇼핑 시 중요하게 고려하는 의류상품 구매후기 정보에 관한 탐색적 연구)

  • This study investigated the consumer review information considered important by consumers when making a purchase decision to buy apparel products online. Data were collected through focus group interviews. Eleven females in their 20s and 30s, who have extensive experience in reading consumer reviews posted on online apparel stores, participated in the study. The consumer review information considered important by participants is the information related to seven product attributes (size, fabric, design, color, sewing, price, and country of origin), seven benefits (functional, financial, esthetic, emotional, social, utilitarian benefits, and product value compared to price) of the apparel product and four store attributes (return/refund, delivery, reputation/credibility, and customer service). The findings from the study can serve as an important tool in developing survey questions in order to evaluate the quality of consumer review information and help online retailers plan methods to improve the quality of reviews.
