  • In this study, a tactile stimulator was developed to resolve some problems from the previous version of the system such as system configuration, inappropriate stimulation control and additional problems. The developed tactile stimulator consists of control unit, drive unit and vibrator unit. The control unit was controlled by E-Prime software to generate appropriate vibration pulses. The drive unit supplies enough energy to the vibrator to generate effective stimulation pulses. The vibrator unit consists of small coin type vibrator and velcro, and was made to be attached at the hand easily. The developed tactile stimulator was designed by small-size, light-weight, low-power, simple-fabrication, max 35 channels and little delay time from instruction signal of E-Prime software to vibrator. The duration and magnitude of stimulation was controlled by 10 grades and the problems concerning stimulation control were compensated by wideband frequency ranges. Additionally, the electrical safety was ensured by low voltage operation. Vibrator was made to be attached on finger as well as on any part of the subject. Since this tactile stimulator is developed based on E-Prime software which is widely used in cognitive science, it is believed that this stimulator be suitable for the wide application of cognitive science study.

  • In order to be able to interact with the user to experience it as if it were real in virtual reality contents, input/output devices that make them feel the five senses of humans are required . In virtual reality (VR), devices that stimulate sight and hearing are the most representative. For a more realistic experience, suits and gloves that stimulate the sense of touch have recently been released, but there are not many cases applied to actual contents due to the limitation of device . In this paper, we analyze a virtual reality glove that can detect hand movement and touch in a virtual world. Based on the analysis, we propose an algorithm that can sense the intensity of collision with a VR object by tactile sense by improving the UI/UX using the vibration of the feedback method used in the existing virtual reality glove. In addition, the system implemented by the algorithm is applied to an actual case.

  • In this paper, We introduce the glove mouse using a Gyroscope, acceleration sensor, Pin-type Viboratctile Display Device and USB HID. The device recognize a user's wrist by Gyroscope and acceleration sensor in the glove and transmit the data to USB dongle which is recognized the manufactured mouse by Blutooth. Also, using a special application, We transmit the tactile information to user through the Pin-type Vibrotactile Display. We implement wearable system in the glove except USB device. If user want to use general spatial mouse, we recognize mouse USB dongle only without another application. If user want to feel the tactile sensationn, we can use by connecting PC serial communication port to USB dongle.

  • This paper reports the enhanced fabrication and characterization of a $3{\times}3$ array tactile actuator composed of cellulose acetate. The array tactile actuator, with dimensions of $15{\times}15{\times}1mm^3$, consists of 9 pillar-supported cells made from a cellulose-acetate molding. The fabrication process and performance test along with the results for the suggested actuator are explained. To improve the cell-array fabrication, a laser cut was adopted after the molding process. The displacement of the unit cell increased the input voltage and frequency. Various top masses are added onto the actuator to mimic the touch force, and the acceleration of the actuator is measured under actuation. When 2 kV is applied to the actuator, the maximum acceleration is 0.64 g, which is above the vibrotactile threshold. The actuation mechanism is associated with the electrostatic force between the top and bottom electrodes.

  • Touch screen phone which is expected to play a big part of the mobile market for the next few years, has many merits but demerits of inaccurate feedback. It offers audio and tactile feedback to strengthen the weak point. This study aims to see if audio feedback and vibration feedback react upon each other under realistic conditions. We had a qualitative research in perception after using touch screen phone feedback. The result showed that with any feedback users were satisfied more than without any feedback and there was diversity in response. We ran the study again to see the performance level and the projective workload between the kind of feedback and interrupting feedback environment Performance rates were faster with audio feedback and according to the projective workload assessment users felt that task was easier and less annoying with audio-vibration feedback. The results suggest that audio feedback could be more effective than vibration feedback. A future study will figure out the relationship between the factors of qualitative-controlled feedback and learning time and the performance, and the main cause to make people prefer one feedback over another in a realistic world.
