For the prediction of the real vibration and stability behaviour of rotor-beaing systems, various additional effects were considered, which are simplified or neglected by conventional modeling of real rotors. These are specially coupled spring and damping coefficients of journal bearings, spring and damping coefficients of external supporting elements for bearings, static load exerting on gears or pulleys by power transmissions, excitation through the gear tolerance or failure, and positive or negative spring and damping characteristics of magnetic or sealing friction force. Considering these effects, a computer program for the calculation of free and forced vibration of rotating shafts supported by two or more bearings is developed, based on the transfer matrixed method. The reliability of the calculated resutls were ascertianed by comparing with the measured data on high speed rotors supported by two journal bearings.
Vibration analysis is one of the most powerful tools available for the detection and isolation of incipient faults in mechanical systems. The methods of vibration analysis in use today and under continuous study are broad band vibration monitoring, time domain analysis, and frequency domain analysis. In recent years, great interest has been generated concerning the use of time- frequency repesentation and its application for a machinery diagnostics and condition monitoring system. The objective of the study described in this paper was to develop a new diagnostic tool for the rotating machinery. This paper introduces a new time frequency representation. Directional Winger-Ville Distribution, which analyese the time-frequency structure of the rotating machinery vibration.
We have conducted an experimental study to analyze characteristics of the wheel profile wear and an influence of the wheel flange wear on the vehicle's vibration characteristics. In experiment with EMU, wheel profile wear is severe at the beginning of the commercial operation. In this stage, the variations of the wheel dimension parameters and equivalent conicity is changed rapidly. Along with a mileage of the test vehicle, the wear of the wheel flange is increased and also the vibration level of the car-body is increased. The peak-peak mean value of the body vibration is estimated as good level, but the level is approached at the limit of the good level as mileage increases. Especially, the peak-peak maximum value of the body vibration shows the distinct increase of vibration level.
When floor vibration problems occur in existing buildings, TMD (tuned mass damper) can be a viable alternative to resolving the problem. Only when TMD has been exactly tuned to the natural frequency of the floor, it can control the vibration as intended in design. However, TMD gets inefficient in the situation where the natural frequency changes as a result of the uncontrollable variation of the floor mass weight. This physical phenomenon is often called as TMD-off-tuning. This study proposes asymmetric TMD for enhancing the robustness of floor vibration control against uncertain natural frequencies. The proposed TMD features two asymmetric linear springs such that the floor vibrational energy can be dissipated through both the translational and rotational motion. An easy-to-use graphical optimization method was developed in this study. The asymmetric TMD proposed outperformed in vibration control by 28% compared to that of conventional TMD. The robustness of asymmetric TMD of this study was two times higher than that of conventional TMD.

Although the environmental conflicts regarding noise and vibration are continually increasing during construction, noise and vibration occurring in construction are only managed in construction phase. Noise and Vibration occurring in construction are considered to be insufficient, so we find that noise and vibration management in design phase has to be operated for reducing. The objective of this paper is to present noise and vibration management lists to consider in design phase for enhancing efficiency in noise and vibration management and to develop the appraisal sheets for designers to evaluate and the manuals to easily use management lists. To achieve this, we identify the noise and vibration management lists to consider in design phase through analyzing the previous literatures and confirm the 9 lists through conducting a research with experts in environmental area for verifying the propriety of lists. Also, this study applies to AHP technique to identify the priority and the weight evaluation among the lists. Through this study, we identify the most efficient lists, including from the low noise and low vibration methods, the noise and vibration reduction by blasting works, the installment and the arrangement of noise and vibration control equipments, for noise and vibration management in design phase. The achievement of this study will help to prevent the environmental disputes and conflicts in advance and will consider utilizing for the successful construction project.

Helicopter uses a rotor system to generate lift, thrust and forces, and its aerodynamic environment is generally complex. Unsteady aerodynamic environment arises such as blade vortex interaction. This unsteady aerodynamic environment induces vibratory aerodynamic loads and high aeroacoustic noise. Those are at N times the rotor blade revolutions (N/rev). But conventional rotor control system composed of pitch links and swash plate is not capable of adjusting such vibratory loads because its control is restricted to 1/rev. Many active control methodologies have been examined to alleviate the problem. The blade using active control device manipulates the blade pitch angle at arbitrary frequencies. In this paper, Active Trailing-edge Flap blade, which is one of the active control methods, is designed to modify the unsteady aerodynamic loads. Active Trailing-edge Flap blade uses a trailing edge flap manipulated by an actuator to change camber of the airfoil. Piezoelectric actuators are installed inside the blade to manipulate the trailing edge flap.

As environmental vibration requirements on precision equipment become more stringent, use of pneumatic isolators has become more popular and their performance is subsequently required to be further improved. Dynamic performance of passive pneumatic isolators is related to various design parameters in a complicated manner and, hence, is very limited especially in low frequency range by volume of chambers. In this study, an active control technique, so called time delay control which is considered to be adequate for a low frequency or nonlinear system, is applied to a single chamber pneumatic isolator. The procedure of applying the tine delay control law to the pneumatic isolator is presented and its effectiveness in enhancement of transmissibility performance is shown based on simulation and experiment. Comparison between passive and active pneumatic isolators is also presented.

In this study, the effect of the automotive haptic-seat technology which can transmit the driving information by the vibro-stimulus from the seat was investigated to overcome previous system's limitation relied on the visual and audial method and to help handicap driving. A prototype haptic seat cover with 30 coin-type motors and driver module were developed for this sake. In an experiment of seat vibration stimulation being performed under virtual driving situation by targeting the elderly aged over 65 years old, average score of test subjects for total vibration recognition was 3.5/4 points and recognition rate of 87.5% was represented. In addition, a result that all the test subjects totally recognized overspeed warning signal of 4 times was represented. As a result of statistical analysis for vibration recognition score by each group depending on TMT score, a significant difference was not found and a result that tactile function of which vibration is recognized even by the aged whose visual, perceptional function is declined showed an equal ability was obtained.. In this study it was shown that the seat vibration stimulus could be used to transfer the old drivers' information while driving.
Typical hydrophones in line array sensors for early detection of covert underwater targets can measure only sound-pressure-magnitude with the limitation of being unable to identify the direction of an incoming wave. In this study, a thickness shear mode vibrator was proposed as the main component of an inertia type vector hydrophone to measure both magnitude and direction of acoustic signals from targets. The equation to analyze the output voltage of the vibrator to an external force was derived, and the validity of the equation was verified through finite element analysis of a PMN-PT single crystal vibrator. The analysis results from this study will be utilized in the future for the design of inertia type vector hydrophones made of thickness shear vibrators.

The revised U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission(NRC), Regulatory Guide(RG) 1.20, rev.3 requires the evaluation of the potential adverse effects from pressure fluctuations and vibrations on piping and components for the reactor coolant, steam, feedwater, and condensate systems. Detailed vibration analyses for the systems attached to the steam generator are very difficult, because these piping systems are very complicated. This paper suggests a screening method for the flow-induced vibration of acoustic resonances and pump-induced vibration of the piping systems attached to the steam generator in order to conduct the APR1400 comprehensive vibration assessment program. This paper seeks to address the areas such as potential vibration sources, and methods to prevent the occurrence of acoustic resonances and pump-induced vibration of piping systems attached to the steam generator, for conducting the APR1400 comprehensive vibration assessment program. The screening method in this paper will be used to estimate the flow-induced vibration of the piping systems attached to the steam generator for the APR1400.
