This study investigates vibro-acoustic characteristics of a short, thick cylinder containing a slot given a pined-free boundaries. Using the finite element analysis results, structural modes of the asymmetric cylinder (with a slot) are expressed as the linear combinations of modes of the symmetric cylinder made of same material with identical geometry except the slot. Based on synthesized modal vibrations, acoustic modes of the asymmetric cylinder are obtained with two approaches, i.e., Rayleigh integral calculation and modal expansion of the acoustic modes of the symmetric cylinder. Also, acoustic powers, max. sound pressure and directivity pattern are obtained from acoustic modes and verified with the boundary element analyses. Based on these results, the accuracy of proposed approaches in calculating the vibro-acoustic properties of a short, thick, asymmetric cylinder has been confirmed. The procedure can be applied to the similar cylinders with other boundaries or asymmetric properties. Also, attenuation of vibration and/or sound radiation of the cylinder type practical components can be studied using these approaches.
Statistical Energy Analysis(SEA) is an efficient tool to predict the broadband noise and vibration for the huge and complex structures such as aircraft and ships. To estimate the noise and vibration by using SEA accurately, the characteristics of SEA parameters associated with fluid loading have to be investigated. In this report, the fluid loaded coupling loss factors were calculated for an 'L' and 'T' type line connections and compared to the ones without fluid loading. Then, the vibration levels for steel box model with 'L' and 'T' type line connection were computed using the fluid loaded and no fluid loaded coupling loss factors, respectively. As a result, the calculated vibration levels of the model using the fluid loaded coupling loss factors were lower than those without fluid loading. As a conclusion, it is necessary to use the fluid loaded coupling loss factors for increasing the prediction accuracy on the noise and vibration of immersed structures.

Power Flow Analysis(PFA) is used as the promising tools for the vibration and noise predictions of complex structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. When the noise and vibration of a complex structure are analyzed, Power Flow finite Element Method combining PFA with FEM is efficient in vibration analysis, and Power Flow Boundary element Method combining PFA with BEM is usful in noise analysis. PFFEM software, PFADS has been developed for the vibration analysis of coupled system structures. Also, NASPFA, the noise analysis software based on PFBEM, has been developed. Through the several upgrades, the current version PFADS R3 and NASPFA R2 are used for the vibration and noise analysis of system structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. In this paper, the structure and function of each software are explained, and the vibration and noise levels of vehicle structures predicted by each software are shown.

The objective of this paper is to get excitation forces of the engine. A powertrain geometry model is produced by CATIA and its FE model is made by MSC/Patran. A vibration mode analysis which makes us know the natural frequency and mode shape and a running mode analysis which measures the mode shape as a relative displacement about one reference point by measuring the acceleration of each bracket to take a place at the running vehicle are experimentally implemented. After getting a satisfied MAC value by doing a correlation about a measured mode analysis value and analyzed value through MSC/Nastran software, all components are assembled through MSC/ADAMS software which is a dynamic analysis tool. We can predict the vibration of brackets which is the last points to occur the force of the engine combustion by analyzing the combustion force produced by engine mechanism.

This paper presents a damper system design in torque converter to minimize the vibration in powertrain of automatic transmission vehicle. The lock-up clutch in torque converter makes engine and transmission connected directly. When the lock-up clutch is engaged the torque fluctuation of engine is attenuated by the damper system. This function decides the vehicle power-train dynamic characteristics. At first, the dynamic hysteresis effect with any self and surface to surface contact problems of the damper springs in the damper system for torque converter is analyzed by using FEM. It is shown that these simulation results have a good design reference to energy dissipation operating by damper system in torque converter. And, to calculate dynamic characteristics, the vehicle model is structured by using $AMESim^{(R)}$?? that is a common use program. The vehicle model shows the frequency response of vehicle by changing the stiffness of damper spring, and these results lead the most suitable stiffness of spring. Also, new damper system is analyzed resonance frequency variation and is compared with prior damper.

Engine mounting system is the most responsible system for NVH performance of vehicle. The vibration at idle shake, road shake, Key ON/OFF, gear shift tuned by the engine mount position and stiffness. Previously described Engine mounting system theory investigated and summarized in this paper. Decoupling of the Power train rigid mode and Reducing the angle between Torque-Roll-Axis and Elastic-roll-Axis is starting point of optimization. Multi-optimization analysis was performed because of variety simulation case and FE-model. Eventually, Find the best mount location and the stiffness has improved the performance of the vehicle NVH.

This study investigates the vibro-acoustic characteristics of an automotive brake drum given free boundaries using the hybrid approach combining numerically obtained structural properties with analytical solution for acoustic radiation. Structural vibrations of the drum are investigated with the finite element method, and modal displacements on the outer surfaces of the drum are idealized as simple mathematical expressions. Based on the expressions, modal sound radiations of the drum are calculated using the Rayleigh integral method. Structural and acoustic responses of the drum for a harmonic excitation are obtained from above results using the modal expansion technique. The results are confirmed with numerical analyses using the boundary element method. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the vibro-acoustic characteristics of a brake drum can be accurately investigated with the process used in this study. Also, many noise and vibration problems in drum brake can be addressed using the procedure proposed in this study.

This paper reports the active vibration control of plates using positive position feedback controller (PPF). The equations of motion of the plate under force and moment pairs were derived and the equations of PPF controllers were formulated. The effect of the parameters - gain and damping ratio - of the PPF controllers on the open loop transfer function was investigated mainly in terms of the system stability. Increasing the gain of the PPF controller tuned at a mode, the magnitude of the open loop transfer function is increased at all frequencies without changing the phase behavior. The increase of the damping ratio of the PPF controller leads to decrease the magnitude of the open loop transfer function and to modify its phase characteristics to be more stable. Two PPF controllers connected in parallel, Each PPF controller is tuned at the $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ modes, respectively. Their parameters were determined to remain the system to be stable based on the results of the parametric study. A significant reduction in vibration at the 2 modes can be obtained.

With recent advanced in portable electric devices, wireless sensor, MEMS and bio-Mechanics device, the new typed power supply, not conventional battery but self-powered energy source is needed. Particularly, the system that harvests from their environments are interests for use in self powered devices. For very low powered devices, environmental energy may be enough to use power source. In the generality of cases, these energy harvesting systems are used in the piezoelectric materials as mechanisms to convert mechanical vibration energy into electric energy. Through the piezoelectric materials, the ambient vibration energy could be used to prolong the power supply or in the ideal case provide endless energy f9r the devices. Therefore, the piezoelectric power harvesting cantilever beam is developed. Also, the output voltage and power are predicted in this study. We also discuss the developing system of the piezoelectric energy scavenger. An experimental verification of the model is also performed to ensure its accuracy.

Acoustic radiation efficiency is one of the important factors in the prediction of underwater radiated noise of ships. A ship has much equipment to operate successful mission in a ship. Most of equipment is running simultaneously as multi-excitation and becomes the source of underwater radiated noise. In many cases of multi-excitation, phase difference between multi-excitation is not considered. Because vibration response under multi-excitation is the vector sum of each single excitation, acoustic radiation efficiency based on surface velocity field can be affected by phase of excitation. In this study, acoustic radiation efficiency of a plate on air and a stiffened cylindrical model in water under multi-excitation with phase difference is investigated.
