  • This paper describes on the distribution of the vibration and the noise produced on a skipjack pole and line training ship M/S Pusan 403 (243GT, 1,000ps) under the cruising or drifting condition. The vibration and the noise level were measured by use of protable vibration analyzer (B and K 3513) and sound level meter (B and K 2205), and so the vibration level was converted into dB unit. The check points were set through every decks and around important places of the ship. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The vibration and the noise level 1) On the main deck, both the vibration and the noise level were highest at the vertically above the main engine, whereas the vibration level was the lowest in the bow store and the noise level beneath the bridge. 2) Under cruising condition, the vibration level around the cylinder head of main engine, port side of the engine room, on the shaft tunnel was 80, 67, 65 dB and the noise level 104, 87, 86 dB, respectively. 3) The vibration level on the vertical line passing through the bridge was the highest at the orlop deck with 60 dB and the lowest on the bridge deck with 55 dB, whereas the noise level the highest at the compass deck with 75 dB and the lowest at the orlop deck with 53 dB. 4) The vibration and the noise level on the open decks were the highest with 65 dB and 84 dB on the boat deck, whereas the vibration level was the lowest at the lecture room with 51 dB and the noise level the lowest at the fore castle deck with 57 dB. 5) On the orlop decks, both the vibration and the noise level were the highest at the engine room with 65 dB and 85 dB, and the lowest at bow store with 54 dB and 52 dB, respectively. Comparing with the vibration level and the noise level, the vibration level was higher than the noise level in the bow part and it was contrary in the stern part of the ship. 2. Vibration analysis 1) The vibration displacement and the vibration velocity were the greatest at the cylinder head of main engine with 100$\mu$m and 11mm/sec, and were the smallest at the compass deck with 3$\mu$m and 0.07mm/sec. They were also attenuated rapidly around the frequency of 100Hz and over. 2) The vibration acceleration was the greatest at the cylinder head with the main frequency of 1KHz and the acceleration of 1.1mm/sec super(2), and the smallest at the compass deck with 30KHz and 0.05mm/sec super(2).

  • A study was made on the design of the prediction model concerning blasting vibration in a constraction site, Namgu, Daegu City. The geology in this area consists of hornfels of shale and mud underlain by quartize, of which the main strike of the geological structure is NW direction. Measurements were carried out on the top of the wall concrete water storage tank, which is burried in the ground earth. The attenuation due to the vertical wall of the concrete structure may be experted because of spherical divergency at the bottom corner of the wall by the Huygens principle. For design of blasting prediction model, thus among scaled distance(SD) may be preferable to use in the regression model, since they represents most likely the average ground condition. Judging from the regression results, the cube root method may be more suitable for this area. The SD values for the maximum allowable vibration velocity of 0.5 cm/s, in this area are 22.5, 28.0 and 30.6 for the significance level of 50%, 95% and 99%, respectively.

  • Carbon material was used for the new module-type bicycle accessory focusing on the user convenience through service design methodology. In the case of using the existing carbon material, the impact could not be endured while riding the bicycle and there was the case of breaking. To resolve this kind of problem, the new type of material (S Foam Core material) was applied. The intensity, twist intensity, shock absorbing power, and vibration were measured for the existing carbon material and the S Foam Core material. As a result, the S Foam Core material showed more outstanding results than the existing carbon material. This study produced prototype with the S Foam Core material to verify the performance through tests and report the result.

  • Far ultraviolet IMaging Spectrograph (FIMS) should be designed to maintain its structural stability and to minimize optical performance degradation in launch and in operation enviroments. The structural and thermal analyzes of grating and grating mount system, which are directly related to FIMS optical performance, was performed using finite element method. The grating mount was made to keep the grating stress down, while keeping the natural frequency of the grating mount higher than 100 Hz. Transient and static thermal analyzes were also performed and the results shows that the thermal stress on the grating can be attenuated sufficiently. The optical performance variation due to temperature variation was with the allowed range.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel formulation to solve a time-domain combined field integral equation (CFIE) for analyzing the transient electromagnetic scattering response from closed conducting bodies. Instead of the conventional marching-on in time (MOT) technique, tile solution method in this paper is based on the moment method that involves separate spatial and temporal testing procedures. Triangular patch vector functions are used for spatial expansion and testing functions for three-dimensional arbitrarily shaped closed structures. The time-domain unknown coefficient is approximated as a basis function set that is derived from tile Laguerre functions with exponentially decaying functions. These basis functions are also used as the temporal testing. Numerical results computed by the proposed method arc stable without late-time oscillations and agree well with the frequency-domain CFIE solutions.

  • In this paper, carrier transport mechanism and modulation response for SCH(Separate Confinement Heterostructure) SQW(Single Quantum Well) laser diodes were studied. In order to explain carrier transport mechanism, both carrier density and current density were calculated. The recombination current density in the quantum well as a function of the SCH length was also calculated. For the modulation response, linearizing the rate equation, we calculated the bandwidth, relaxation oscillation frequency, damping factor, and the K-factor.

  • Based on the service design processes, we examined the market conditions and the criteria to be considered in selecting materials and selected CFRP CNT materials in the development of bicycle design. This material was used to develop frame design among the bicycle parts. The bicycle frame, designed with CFRP CNT material through vibration attenuation testing, tensile strength testing, and stiffness test results before prototype production, shows better results than the bicycle frame manufactured with conventional CNT materials in terms of function.

  • In this study, we newly proposed 3-D nonlinear wave driver utilizing the Navier-Stokes Eq. the numerical integration of which is carried out using SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), an internal wave generation with the source function of Gaussian distribution and an energy absorbing layer. For the verification of new 3-D nonlinear wave driver, we numerically simulate the sloshing problem within a parabolic water basin triggered by a Gaussian hump and uniformly inclined water surface by Thacker (1981). It turns out that the qualitative behavior of sloshing caused by relaxing the external force which makes a free surface convex or uniformly inclined is successfully simulated even though phase error is visible and an inundation height shrinks as numerical simulation more proceeds. For the more severe test, we also simulate the nonlinear shoaling and refraction over uniform beach of wedge shape. It is shown that numerically simulated waves are less refracted than the linear counterpart by Hamiltonian ray theory due to nonlinearity, energy dissipation at the bottom and side walls, energy loss induced by breaking, and the hydraulic jump occurring when breaking waves encounter a down-rush by the preceding wave.

  • In 2017, multimodal transportation tests for evaluating road, sea, and rail transport were performed by research institutes in the US, Spain, and the Republic of Korea. In this study, acceleration and strain data determined through road and sea tests were analyzed. It was investigated whether the load generated for each transport mode was amplified or attenuated according to the load transfer path. From the results, it was confirmed that the load transfer characteristics differed according to the transportation mode and loading path. The effects of strain determined through each test on the structural integrity of the spent nuclear fuel were also investigated. It was found that the magnitude of the measured strain had a negligible effect on the structural integrity of the spent nuclear fuel, considering its fatigue strength. The results for the acceleration and strain data analyses obtained in this study will be useful for scheduled domestic transportation tests under normal transport conditions.
