대형 CNG기관의 직접분사화에 의한 희박한계확장 (A study on expansion of lean burn limit with direct injection of the heavy-duty CNG engine)

  • Lean combustion is one of the most promising method for increasing engine efficiency and reducing the exhaust emission from SI gas engines. Due to the possibility of partial burn and misfire, however, under lean burn operation, stable flame kernel formation and fast burn rate are needed to guarantee a successful subsequent combustion. Experiment data were obtained on a single-cylinder CNG fueled SI engine to investigate the effect of direct injection, spark timing and variation of injection timing. Experimental results show that lean burn limit is ${\lambda}$=1.3 with port injection, and expansion of lean burn limit ${\lambda}$=1.4 with direct injection method, due to increase of turbulence intensity in cylinder and stratified charge. Combustion duration in lean region is improved by using the variation of injection timing.

직접분사식 가솔린 엔진에서 분사시기와 흡입유동이 실린더 내 연료의 거동에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Injection Timing and Intake Flow on In-Cylinder Fuel Behavior in a GDI Engine)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the in-cylinder flows and different injection timings on fuel behavior in the cylinder of a GDI engine. Three different flows types induced by using masked port, unmasked port, and port deactivation were tumble, swirl&tumble, and high swirl respectively. LIEF technique was applied to investigate the mixture formation and fuel distribution at ignition time in the transparent engine with optical access through the piston top and upper part of cylinder liner. Injection timings of 180,90, and 60 degrees before TDC were examined. It was found that tumble flow was more effective on the homogeneous mixture formation than other flow and swirl flow transported more fuel vapor to the exhaust side at early injection mode, and swirl and swirl & tumble flow made fuel vapor concentrate around the cylinder center at late injection mode.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of water injection on combustion characteristics of gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine with turbo-charger under low-load operating condition. The test engine used in this study has four-cylinder and 10.2 of compression ratio. In order to study the effect of water injection ratio on combustion characteristics, the water was injected into the intake port from 10% to 50%, based on fuel injection quantity. From the experiment, it revealed that the water injection induced the improvement of fuel economy because of the advance of spark-timing by the reduction of in-cylinder temperature. In addition, the water injection caused the prolong of extension of the ignition delay and slight increase of burn duration.

  • 희박연료 직접분사(Lean Direct injection(LDI)) 가스터빈 연소기에 대한 이상유동 특성을 해석하였다. LDI 연소기에 적용된 환형분사기(hollow-cone spray injector)의 분열을 모사하기 위해 분열모델(Linearized Instability Sheet Atomization(LISA), Aerodynamically Progressed Taylor Analysis Breakup(APTAB)을 적용하였다. 침투깊이와 평균입도(Sauter Mean Diameter(SMD))를 통해 분열모델을 검증하였으며, LDI 연소기에 적용하여 이상유동특성을 분석하였다. 스월인젝터로 인해 Precessing Vortex Core(PVC)가 발생하였으며, 액적들이 PVC를 따라 미립화되는 것을 확인하였다. SMD 결과를 통해 PVC가 회전하는 영역의 외곽으로 즉, 빠른 속도 영역에 액적들이 분포하며, 스톡스수(Stokes number)는 1보다 작다.

  • The direct injection stratified charge(DISC) engine enhances the fuel tolerance and the antiknock tendency. This enhanc3d antiknock tendency allows use of a higher compression ratio which results in higher thermal efficiency. But its actual utilization is prevented by high emission combustion time and wall quenching will be the main causes of increasing unburned hydrocarbons in DISC system. In order to solve this problem, small aount of hydrogen was added to the charging air or injected fuel. The effects of hydrogen addition were examined experimentally by radial fuel injection using a pancake-type constant volume bomb. In case of the hydrogen addition to the charge of air, the combustion the amount of hydrogen. In case of the hydrogen addition to the fuel, the combustion pressure was significantly increased.

기체구 분사 모델을 이용한 CNG 직접분사식 인젝터 분사 수치해석 기법 (Modeling of CNG Direct Injection using Gaseous Sphere Injection Model)

  • This paper describes the modeling of CNG direct injection using gaseous sphere injection model. Simulation of CNG direct injection does not need break up and evaporation model compared to that of liquid fuel injection. And very fine mesh is needed near the injector nozzle to resolve the inflow boundary. Therefore it takes long computation time for gaseous fuel injection simulation. However, simulation of CNG direct injection could be performed with the coarse mesh using gaseous sphere injection model. This model was integrated in KIVA-3V code and RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model needs to be modified because this model tends to over-predict gas jet diffusion. Furthermore, we preformed experiments of gaseous fuel injection using PLIF (planar laser induced fluorescence)method. Gaseous fuel injection model was validated against experiment data. The simulation results agreed well with the experiment results. Therefore gaseous sphere injection model has the reliability about gaseous fuel direct injection. And this model was predicted well a general tendency of gaseous fuel injection.

  • The technologies employing spray-guided type combustion system for ultra-lean combustion direct injection engine is focused as a promising technology for satisfying emission regulations and improving fuel economy. In the present study, control and design optimization of lean-burn LPG direct injection engine was carried out with control strategy and injection position changes. Inter-injection spark ignition strategy was applied and the effect of the strategy was assessed at relatively higher load operation condition than previous researches. In order to create richer mixture in the vicinity of spark plug electrode, relative distance between the dead-end of injector and the electrode of spark plug was changed.

  • 자동차배출가스는 이산화탄소($CO_2$)에 의한 지구온난화 및 탄화수소(HC)와 질소산화물($NO_x$)에 의한 오존 생성을 야기하는 등, 인체와 환경에 나쁜 영향을 미치기 때문에 이에 대한 관심이 증폭되고 있다. 가솔린 직접분사 (Gasoline Direct Injection; GDI)엔진은 디젤엔진과 같이 연소실내에 연료를 직접 공급하는 방식으로서 가솔린엔진의 취약점으로 지적되어 오던 높은 연료소비율 문제를 획기적으로 개선할 수 있는 기술로 평가되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 분무유도방식(Spray-guided type)의 GDI엔진을 이용하여 공기과잉률 2.0 이상의 초희박 연소를 통해 연료소비율을 개선하였다. 추가적인 연료소비율 개선 및 배출가스 저감을 위해 희박연소시 다단 분사전략과 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR)을 적용하였다. 배출가스 수준과 운전성능을 평가하고 이를 배출가스 규제와 비교 검토함으로써 국내 관련기술 개발 방향 및 상용화 가능성에 대해 검토하고자 하였다.
