  • Purpose: This study aimed to examine the effects of interpersonal relationship ability, job stress, and stress coping type on the turnover intention of nurses in the early stage of their careers. Methods: Data were collected from 136 early stage nurses from two general hospitals and one tertiary hospital in Chungbuk province. An early stage nurse was defined as the nurse with a work experience of 3 to 36 months. The collected data were analyzed using independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Mann-Whitney U test, Person's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: It was seen that turnover intention had a negative correlation with interpersonal competency (r=-.20, p=.020) and a positive correlation with job stress (r=.56, p<.001). Job stress due to work over load, inadequate compensation and working environment, interpersonal relationship ability, and length of clinical career were significant factors influencing turnover intention (p<.05). These variables explained for 50.4% of the variance in turnover intention. Conclusion: It is necessary to develop an interpersonal relationship ability improvement program to decrease turnover intention among early stage nurses by helping them to successfully adapt to their job. Moreover, it is important to bring about continuous improvements in terms of provision of adequate workload and appropriate rewards, and creation of a suitable work environment to reduce the job stress of early stage nurses.

  • This study aims to examine the correlations between undergraduates' major-interest congruence and stress coping behaviors and major adjustment. And in order to find there is any group violating Holland's congruence hypothesis, this paper divides them into four groups according to the degree of major-interest congruence and major adjustment. Also, it examines the difference of stress coping behaviors among the four groups. The followings are the chief results of this paper. First, according to the result of analyzing the effects of major-interest congruence and stress coping behaviors on major adjustment, congruence did not affect major adjustment significantly. Second, according to the result of dividing them into four groups by the degree of major-interest congruence and major adjustment, there is one group with high congruence but low major adjustment and also a group with low congruence but high major adjustment. Third, according to the result of examining the difference of stress coping behaviors among the four groups by the degree of major-interest congruence and major adjustment, there is significant difference among the four groups. Above results imply that in major adjustment, we should consider factors other than major-interest congruence, and stress coping behaviors are particularly important for it. Therefore, it is necessary to train their stress coping behaviors and also develop programs to facilitate major adjustment. Also, it implies that in the use of Holland's theory, it is crucial to use it based on the client's various information and uniqueness rather than to apply it in a conventional or unconditional way.

  • This study is aimed to investigate the relationship between job-related stressor, problem solving style and psychological distress and the effects of job-related stress and problem solving style on psychological distress of firefighters. The Job-related Stress Scale, Problem Solving Style Questionnaire, and the Symptom Checklist-Revised (SCL-90-R) were administered to 148 firefighters working in Seoul and Gyounggi. Correlation analysis revealed that job-related stress, problem-solving styles such as helplessness and problem-solving control correlated positively with psychological distress and that problem-solving confidence and approaching style correlated negatively with it. Multiple regression analysis showed that job-related negative cognition and emotion, helplessness and approaching style accounted for 43% of the variance in the psychological distress. Among problem-solving styles, helplessness had the highest predictive power for psychological distress. Self-reported helplessness is an important determinant of firefighters' reactions to problematic situations encountered in their job.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of emotional labor on job stress and the professional identity of sports coaches for people with disability. 190 surveys targeting sports coaches for people with disability working at sports associations for people with disability, rehabilitation sports centers, and welfare centers for people with disability in the metropolitan area were collected and used for analysis. Using the SPSS 22.0 statistical program, the collected data were subjected to frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that emotional dissonance, a sub-factor of emotional labor, affects role ambiguity and role overload in job stress. The expression diversity, a sub-factor of emotional labor, had an impact on publicity, use of professional organizations, and sense of responsibility, which were sub-factors of professional identity. It was confirmed that emotional dissonance affects the autonomy of professional identity and the sense of responsibility. It was also confirmed that role ambiguity, a sub-factor of job stress, had an effect on professional identity, and that role overload had an effect on publicity and autonomy. As a follow-up, a detailed in-depth study including perceptions and thoughts on the types of emotional labor of sports coaches for people with disability according to national regions and categories other than metropolitan areas is needed.
