Relationships between Self-Esteem, Emotional Intelligence, and Mindfulness of Employees in Large Corporations (일대기업 근로자의 자아존중감, 감성지능, 마음챙김이 스트레스 반응에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify influencing factors on the stress of employees in large corporations by examining relationships between self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness. Methods: A hundred and sixty four employees from large corporations completed self-reporting questionnaires during November and December, 2019. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 22.0 using descriptive statistics, the t-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: The scores were 2.96±0.40 for "self-esteem", 3.56±0.61 for "emotional intelligence", 4.01±0.04 for "mindfulness", and 2.21±0.79 for "stress response". A regression analysis identifying factors affecting the stress response of employees in large corporations showed that "mindfulness" was the most significant factor (β=-.58, p<.001), followed by "emotional intelligence" (β=-.21, p=.005) and "self-esteem" (β=-.16, p=.009). The explanatory power of these variables for the stress response of employees in large corporations was 48%. Conclusion: Our findings suggest that self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness are significantly related to employees' stress response in large corporations. Therefore, stress response management programs should be developed to improve self-esteem, emotional intelligence, and mindfulness.

Relationships of Self-esteem to Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention among Ship-building Supply Workers (조선업 협력업체 근로자의 자아존중감, 직무만족 및 이직의도와의 관계)

  • Purpose: This is a descriptive correlation study to identify self-esteem, job satisfaction, and turnover intention among ship-building supply workers. Methods: The subjects were 199 ship-building supply workers at two small & medium-sized ship-building supply companies in K city. The data were collected from March 1st through 31st, 2013. The collected data were analyzed using the SAS program through t-test, ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: There was a positive correlation between self-esteem and job satisfaction (r=.29, p<.001), a negative correlation between self-esteem and turnover intention (r=-.20, p<.001). Also there was a negative correlation between job satisfaction and turnover intention (r= -.58, p<.001). Conclusion: This finding identified that the self-esteem and job satisfaction were an important variable related to the turnover intention. Therefore, organizational managers need to develop strategies for improving workers' self-esteem and job satisfaction to prevent and decrease worker's turnover intention.

Effects of Traumatic Events, Compassion Fatigue, Self-esteem, and Compassion Satisfaction on Burnout of Nurses in Emergency Department (ED) (응급실 간호사의 외상사건 경험, 공감피로, 자아존중감, 공감만족 및 소진)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to verify the factors that determines burnout of nurses in emergency department. Methods: The survey was given to 170 ED nurses which are located in Busan from July 1st to August 31st of 2012. The results were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression using SAS 9.2 program. Results: There were statistically significant differences in burnout depending on gender, position, workplace satisfaction, job satisfaction. Significant positive correlation between compassion fatigue and burnout was found. Also significant negative correlation was found between self-esteem, compassion satisfaction and burnout. Factors influencing burnout were self-esteem, compassion satisfaction and compassion fatigue with $R^2$ value 58.0%. Conclusion: Considering these results, it seems that great efforts will be needed for reducing burnout by mitigating the emergency nurses' compassion fatigue and introducing programs to increase the self-esteem and compassion satisfaction.

Relationships of Workplace Bullying to Self-esteem and Turnover Intention among Clinical Nurses at Small and Medium-sized Hospitals (중소병원 간호사의 직장 내 약자 괴롭힘과 자아존중감 및 이직의도와의 관계)

  • Purpose: This study was to assess the prevalence of workplace bullying and the relationship workplace bullying to self-esteem and turnover intention among clinical nurses. Methods: The subjects were 223 clinical nurses at 3 small and medium-sized hospitals in K and B cities. The data were collected from February 1st throughout 28th, 2013. The collected data were analyzed using the SAS program through the frequency, percentage, mean, and Pearson's correlation coefficients. Results: The rate of self-reported bullying in the nursing workplace was 24.6% of respondents. There was a negative correlation between workplace bullying and self-esteem (r=-.39, p<.001). Also there was a positive correlation between workplace bullying and turnover intention (r=.14, p=.031). Conclusion: Prevalence of self-reported bullying is high among small and medium-sized hospitals and is clearly associated with lower levels of self-esteem and higher levels of turnover intention. Therefore, an organizational nursing management program as a monitoring regularly the psychosocial work environment and policies and procedures to prevent and manage workplace bullying is strongly recommended for the promotion of self-esteem and reducing the nurse's intention to leave the organization.

The Effect of Job Related Variables and Self-Esteem on the Job Satisfaction of Life Insurance Planners (생활설계사의 업무관련 변수와 자아존중감이 직업만족도에 미치는 영향)

  • The objectives of this study were to examine the propensity of job related variables, self-esteem, overall job satisfaction, satisfaction about six categories in the job(task, boss, payment, co-workers, promotion, job environment) of life insurance planners, to investigate the effects of self-esteem, demographic variables, job characteristics variables on the overall job satisfaction and the satisfaction of six categories in the job. The survey of this study was conducted by means of self-administered questionnaire with 275 life insurance planners located in Taegu. Major findings were as follows:(1) The propensity of self-esteem and overall job satisfaction of life insurance planners averages 3.75 and 3.35 points(5 Likert scale). The propensity of satisfaction about task, boss, payment, co-workers, promotion, job environment of life insurance planners averages 4.22, 2.67, 1.68, 2.09, 1.71, 2.65 points separately(5 Likert scale). (2) According to the results for examining the relative influences of variables affecting overall satisfaction of life insurance planners, the relative importance of related variables are in the order of , self-esteem in the job, social dignity of the job, the prospect about the dignity of life insurance planner, the motive of having job. Explanatory power of these variables totaled 43.5%.

The Moderating Effect of Self-esteem in the Relationship between Hospital Nurses' Perception of Death and the Meaning of Life (병원간호사의 죽음에 대한 인식과 삶의 의미 관계에 미치는 자아존중감의 조절효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to determine the moderating effect of self-esteem on the perception of death and the meaning of life among hospital nurses. Methods: The participants were 167 nurses working in two tertiary general hospitals located in city B. Data were collected from September 8 to 21, 2022. SPSS/WIN 29.0 was used for analysis along with t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical multiple regression. Results: The study showed that the meaning of life was significantly correlated with the perception of death (r=.34, p<.001) and self-esteem (r=.31, p<.001). Self-esteem significantly moderated the relationship between the perception of death and the meaning of life (F=16.00, p<.001). Conclusion: Self-esteem may moderate the relationship between the two factors. This means that nurses with higher self-esteem have a greater tendency for their perception of death to positively impact their meaning of life. Therefore, for hospital nurses to discover the meaning of life, it is necessary to develop and apply a self-esteem enhancement program specialized for each clinical career.

  • In this study, production of the psychological characteristics of college, and work values, and adjusting to college by examining the relationship between the impact and importance of college life was to become the basis of map. The results of this study First, the psychological characteristics of college production to adjust to college has a positive effect. In particular, self-esteem, how the formation of ego identity doeneunyae adjustment to college so well that the results could be obtained. Development of the Structural Model of Middle-aged Men's Subjective Quality of Life (중년남성의 주관적 삶의 질 모형 구축)

  • The purpose of this study was to construct and test a structural equation model of subjective quality of life in middle-aged men. The participants were 493 middle-aged men. Data were collected from September 10 to October 31, 2011. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0 and AMOS 19.0. Self-esteem, social support, family communication showed direct and indirect effect on subjective quality of life for middle-aged married men, and job satisfaction showed a direct effect on subjective quality of life. The structural regression model of middle-aged men's subjective quality of life was a good fit with the model. These results indicate that it is necessary to design intervention programs to increase self-esteem, social support, family communication and job satisfaction in order to increase middle-aged men's subjective quality of life.

A study on satisfaction in major and job esteem based on volunteering experience of college students in the department of dental hygiene and nursing (치위생학, 간호학 전공 학생의 자원봉사활동 경험에 따른 전공만족도와 직업존중감 조사)

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to investigate satisfaction in major and job esteem of college students in dental hygiene and nursing department according to volunteering. Methods : This study was used on a descriptive research design. participants of this study were 378 college students in some region from April 30th to May 21th. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS Program(version 20.0) using descriptive statistics. Results : Volunteering experience subjects was 24.3%, the subjects did not experience volunteering was 75.7% and volunteering related to major was 59.8% and it was 40.2% of unrelated volunteering. Volunteering experience by general characteristics was influenced significantly by grade(p= .000), major(p= .000), economic status(p= .007). Volunteering experience by major relevant characteristics of subjects was not influenced significantly. The major satisfaction by volunteering was a little higher on volunteering experience subjects than non-experienced subjects. and was not influenced difference significantly(p= .786). The job esteem by volunteering was higher volunteering experience subjects than non-experienced subjects and was influenced significantly(p=.005). Conclusions : College students majoring in the department of dental hygiene and nursing is somewhat lower the volunteering experience. The major satisfaction and job esteem of college students was influenced by volunteering. therefore, the need to plan ways to increase participation and provide information and opportunities is to invigorate the function of the volunteering service which is also considered as one of the functions of the university.

Relationships among Public Service Motivation, Hospital Organizational Culture Types, Job-esteem, and Turnover Intentions of Public Hospital Nurses (일개 지역 공공병원 간호사의 공공봉사동기, 병원조직문화유형, 직업존중감 및 이직의도간의 관계)

  • This study aims to investigate the relationship among public service motivation, hospital organizational culture type, job-esteem, and turnover intention of public hospital nurses. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 124 nurses at four public hospitals in the Gyeonggi Province (Icheon, Anseong, Suwon, Paju). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Mann-Whitney U test and the Kruskal-Wallis test were used with the Bonferroni test for post hoc comparison when the data were not normally distributed. The turnover intention of the subjects was public service motivation (r=-.30, p<.001), affiliative culture (r=-.28, p=.002), innovative culture (r=-.34, p< .001) and task culture (r=-.30, p=.001) were negatively correlated. Study findings suggest that public service motivation must be increased to reduce the turnover intention of nurses in public hospitals.
