The purpose of this study is to estimate the behavior and the mechanism of debris flow at the end of mountain side when a berm was set on the inclined plane. The numerical model was performed by using the Finite Difference Method(FDM) based on the equation for the mass conservation and momentum conservation. In order to measure the behavior of the debris flow, the debris flow of a straight channel slope and the debris flow of channel slope with 3 types of berms were compared. First, the flow discharge and the sediment volume concentration at the downstream of the channel slope, depending on the various berm width and the different inflow discharges at the upstream of the channel were analyzed. The longer the berm width, the flow discharge at the downstream of the channel was decreased and the high flow fluctuation was reduced by a berm. And it means that a berm can effect for the delay of the debris flow. Through Root Mean Square ratio(RMS) comparison, the flow discharge of the channel slope with a berm was lower than that of a straight channel slope. The longer the berm width, for the sediment volume concentration, an inflection point did not show but mild curve. Because the low sediment concentration with water mixture by a berm continuously flow at the downstream end, it will be effect for reducing the disaster caused by debris flow. The results of this study will provide useful information in predicting and preventing disaster caused by the debris flow.
The distributions, factors, and vegetation covers of debris slopes and changes of debris at the eastern Ongjeom-ri, Cheongsong-gun are analyzed. The important factors influencing on the developments of the slopes are felsites having advantages to the developments of cliffs and supply of enough debris, and the relatively long days below zero temperatures promoting the physical weathering processes. The distributional areas of the slopes at southern and western slopes are more extensive than those of northern and eastern slopes due to the active water evaporation by high insolation. The Ga area at eastern Ongjeom-ri has experienced the steady decreases of area of the slopes due to the vegetation covers and shows the increasing rates of vegetation covers of $431.0m^2/yr$ as averaged values. However, it is estimated at the Na area using terrestrial LIDAR that 1 or 2 debris were moved or displaed per year in slope.

Until now, most probabilistic approaches to the slope stability analysis have been accomplished on the arc failure surface without load. In this study, the relationships between the probability of failure and the safety factor are investigated when the shape of failure is logarithmic spiral on the homogeneous slope with ground water level, the probability distributions of the load and the strength parameter of soil being assumed as normal distribution, log-normal distribution and beta distribution. The results obtained are as follows; 1. For the same safety factor, the design of slope is more reasonable by using the probability of failure than by the safety factor because the probability of failure is increased as the coefficient of variation is increased. 2, The safety factor is more reasonably determined by the coefficient of variation of the strength parameter than by the field condition when the safety factor is applied to design of slope.
This paper discribes the practical application of stability analysis on the revetment structures, and four different sections of revetment structures are considered in this study. As a result of stability analysis, the the section of inclined revetment with T.T.P. block shows the highest safety factor against to the sliding failure of cap concrete block, while the section of inclined revetment with rubble stone shows the highest safety factor against to the straight and circular sliding failure. And the safety factors are increased by increasing of the rigidity of covered materials and by decreasing of the slope angle. For the safety factor of overturnning and bearing capacity, the section of inclined revetment structures shows higher safety factors than the section of vertical structures, and the safety factors are increased by decreasing of the slope angle and by increasing of the bottom width of the structures.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the sedimentation area and runout distance in the downstream when debris flow occurred on a mountain slope through an experimental performance. Super typhoons and torrential rains caused by climate change cause large-scale debris flow disasters in the downstream areas of mountainous areas, mainly where sediments are deposited and flowed downstream. To analyze the characteristics of the sediment deposited downstream, the disposition area and runout distance were investigated through experiments in the case of a straight channel and channel with berm, respectively. As experimental conditions, changes in sediment volume concentration and channel slope, and channel with or without berm, reduction rates in sedimentation area and runout distance were investigated. In the straight channel, the steeper the channel slope and the lower the sedimentation concentration, the sedimentation area and runout distnace were increased. In a channel with berm, the runout distance and sediment area increased as the slope became steeper and the sediment area decreased.

Mountainous areas are 64% in Korea and are allowed to be used by the permission standards of the "Mountainous Districts Management Act". In the act, slope and elevation criteria are defined to regulate the use of vulnerable land parcels to disaster. However, the standards cannot represent topographical variation in a land parcel such as terrain relief. Therefore, the applicability of slope type standard as a permission standard was tested using Catena in this study. Based on the theoretical grounds, two slope types were analyzed as 'risky slope' with disaster risk. The slope types of landslides in Namwon City were analyzed that 'risky slope' types were distributed about 57%. This study analyzed the forestland parcels that could be used when applying the current permission standards and the parcels that were already used in Namwon City. The ratio of the 'risky slope' in the parcels was more than 50%. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent the mountain development in 'risky slope' by establishing permission standard related to slope types. In addition, this study suggested the ratio of 'risky slope' in the parcel for the permission standard for forestland use conversion.

Stratified slope was formed on the SSE-facing slope in the southwest region of Haenam, South Korea. Field and laboratory investigations into the geomorphology and sedimentology of stratified slope deposit that is inactive. Outcrops of this deposit show an alteration of coarse debris-supported matrix and tiny debris-supported matrix layers. Sedimentological analysis(particle-size analysis) indicates that this deposit is not fluvial process or only gravitation like rock-fall. Many clasts and fine materials on the slope is supposed to be product by congelifraction under Pleistocene periglacial climatic environment. Also The processes responsible for the genesis of this deposit probably are to move downward by gelifluction and to remove fine materials by slope wash in thawing cycle and in situ debris congelifraction on gelifluction slope. Now It is impossible to account for the time range of genesis(diurnal, seasonal). In conclusion, this stratified slope formed in cold and humid periglacial environmental in pleistocene, therefore, this slope is a periglacial relic landform, indicates that in south korea there was a cold and humid paleo-climate such as periglacial environmen.

Generally, when the stability of the geosynthetic reinforced soil slopes is analyzed, the required tensile forces of each reinforcement layers are calculated from total reinforcement forces which are necessary to retain the equilibrium state of slip mass in which the slip surfaces are assumed to be a linear or bilinear. It is assumed that the reinforcement forces are increased or constant with depth. However, according to the instrumented field data and laboratory model test results, the maximum tensile strain of reinforcement in a reinforced soil slope is developed in a certain elevation, not a bottom of the slope. In the concept of reinforced soil, postulated failure surfaces are the traces of the position in which the reinforcement tensile forces are maximum in the layer, and the reinforcement tensile forces are related to the stress state on the postulated failure surface. Therefore, in this study, based on the distribution of normal stress on the slip surface, a new method for the evaluation of required tensile forces is suggested and a number of the instrumented field data are analyzed by newly suggested method. As a result, it is shown that the newly suggested method produces relatively accurate reinforcement tension forces.

Overtopping Wave Energy Convertor (OWEC) is an offshore wave energy convertor for collecting the overtopping waves and converting the water pressure head into electric power through the hydro turbines installed in the vertical duct which is fixed in the sea bed. The numerical wave tank based on the commercial computational fluid dynamics code Fluent is established for the corresponding analysis. Several incident wave conditions and shape parameters of the overtopping device are calculated. The straight line type and parabolic type of the sloping arm are compared in the optimal designing investigation of the overtopping characteristics and discharge for OWEC device. The numerical results demonstrate that the parabolic sloping arm is available for wave running up and the overtopping discharge increasing.
