Assessment of Site Environmental Factors on the Structure of Forest Vegetation in Naejang-san National Park Using Canonical Correlation Analysis (정준상관분석을 통한 내장산국립공원 산림식생구조의 입지환경 평가)

  • This study examines locational environment factors that may affect the vegetation structure in the forests of Naejang National Park. To that end, we selected LAI (Leaf Area Index), diameter at breast height, and tree height as structural variables as well as altitude above sea level, gradient, slope direction, soil moisture, topographic location, and amount of solar radiation as locational environment factors, using the method of canonical correlation analysis in order to find out correlation between them. As to the simple correlation between the locational environment factors and structural variables, the correlation coefficient was relatively low (0.6). The values of LAI, measured along the ridge with higher altitudes, decreased as the soil moisture and solar radiation increased. However, LAI increased as the gradient increased and the slope direction faced the north (farther from the east). In respect of the diameter at breast height, the diameter decreased as the altitude and gradient increased. But the diameter increased as the moisture and solar radiation increased. The tree height decreased as the moisture increased and the site was closer to the ridge. These various correlations show a variety of locational environment factors in the national park, implying that the structural variables are affected by complex locational environment factors. This study conducted a canonical correlation analysis on locational environment factors which may affect the vegetation structure, and the result showed that LAI increased and tree height & diameter at breast height decreased as the solar radiation & moisture decreased and altitude increased. Although more factors that may affect vegetation structure (e.g. climate) should be taken into account, this study is significant in that the vegetation structure, which can adapt to more unfavorable conditions in terms of solar radiation, moisture, and higher altitudes, could be inferred in a statistical way. The results of this study, especially the locational environment factors based on DEM, can be used for assessing diversity of vegetation structure in a forest and for monitoring the structure in a national park on a regular basis so as to establish more effective maintenance plans of a park.

  • Busan metropolitan city faced with very low completion rate of residential environment improvement projects. Main reason is to designate proposed residential environment improvement areas without careful analysis of the possibilities of the improvement project completion. This study aims to clarify and analyze the phase characteristics of residential environment improvement process by using 12 variables representing 5 locational characteristics such as place factors, topological factors, size factors, location condition factors and regulation factors. From results of the analysis, this study finds that business floor area ratio, improvement type and site size affect significantly the completion rate of residential redevelopment projects. However, business floor ratio, improvement type, width of frontage road and slope are significant variables to affect the completion rate of residential rebuilding projects.

  • 광역상수도의 수도시설 및 관로시설의 적지를 선정하기 위한 시스템에서는 GIS기법을 이용하여 공간정보를 입력하고, 분석하며 적정입지를 선정할 수 있는 기초를 마련하였다. GIS를 이용한 적지선정기법을 방대한 지형정보의 종합적인 관리와 분석능력 및 시각적인 표현능력을 갖추고 있어 광역상수도의 적정노선 결정에 적합하며, 그 이용도가 점차 증가하는 추세이다. 본 연구에서는 포항시를 대상으로 GIS를 이용한 광역상수도의 수도 및 관로시설의 적지선정 시스템에 대한 타당성을 검증하였다. 수치지도는 국가기본도와 주제도중 토지이용도와 도시계획도를 작성하였다. 구축된 지형정보에 관한 기술조건을 만족하는 공간분석항목을 바탕으로 가능대안을 마련하였다. 본 연구의 결과, 기존 수도시설 및 관로시설의 적지선정 방법에 비해 개발된 시스템을 이용할 경우 많은 시간과 비용이 줄었다.

Analysis on DTV Indoor Reception Environments (디지털 TV 실내수신 환경 분석)

  • DTV has a great advantage as compared to Analog TV in picture quality under low reception field strength. Various high quality tuners have been developed to result in much smaller Noise Figure of the receivers and many trials for receiving DTV signal through indoor antenna. In this paper, results of intensive field tests on the indoor reception of DTV are presented. Tests were carried out around Seoul-Gyeonggi Metropolitan area. Commercial directional and omni-directional antennas and 5th generation receiver were used for reception availability tests. The effects of heights, locations, and types of the house as well as the distance to the transmitter on the reception performances are analyzed. Our test results will be applied to improve the indoor reception environment of DTV.

Diffusion equation model for geomorphic dating (지형연대 측정을 위한 디퓨젼 공식 모델)

  • For the application of the diffusion equation, slope height and maximum slope angle are calculated from the plotted slope profile. Using denudation rate as a solution for the diffusion equation, an apparent age index can be calculated, which is the total amount of denudation through total time. Plots of slope angle versus slope height and apparent age index versus slope height are useful for determining relative or absolute ages and denudation rates. Mathematical simulation plots of slope angle versus slope height can generate equal denudation-rate lines for a given age. Mathematical simulations of slope angle versus age for a given slope height, for equal denudation-rate at a particular profile site, and for comparing to other sites having controlled ages.

A Study on Disaster Recognition and Feasibility of Disaster Prevention Based on Place Names (지명을 통해 본 재해인식 및 방재 가능성 탐색)

  • Patterns and regional distribution of disaster-related place names have been analyzed to confirm the recognition and probability of disaster and to explore the possibility of disaster prevention measures. 106 terms and 37,901 place names related to disaster and prevention measures have been collected from the Korean gazetteers "Hanguk Jimyeong Chongnam". Based on this, some conclusions have been drawn: firstly, place names related to the geomorphic processes and prevention measures are more common than any other disasters; secondly, place names related to heavy rain, flooding and drowning are most common. Analysis of the regional distribution pattern shows that disaster-related place names are most common in Jeolla and Gyeongsang Provinces and general place names reflecting environmental concern such as water, sand, plain, rain and dam are distributed evenly throughout the whole country; howe, r, place names such as dumbeong, gureong, yeoul, tan(灘), bangjuk, je(堤), and ji(池) are restricted to the specific region, which shows that place names reflects the locational and toprn sucic ainuations. Case st, anindicates that prevention measures should be focused on tributaries and srill villeys conaid ring that disasters originated from the combination of weather and landform conditions are most common throughout the whole country.

The Expansion of Urbanized Area and Geomorphic Environments in Seoul (서울의 시가지 확대와 지형적 배경)

  • This study is to review the site of Seoul and its urbanized area expansion in relation with a geomorphic environments. Surveying on the urbanized area of Seoul by period and related geomorphic conditions found the following conclusions. Seoul urbanized area had been expanded from the cheonggyecheon drainage basin to its surrounding hills and marshland. The marshland development began during the Japanese period from around the tributaries of the Hangang river and expanded to the areas by the main stream of the river. The extensive marshland at the point where the main stream and its tributaries of the river join has been developed relatively new. The marshland development, which took advanced engineering skills and a huge investment, is comparatively later and also involves large additional expenses to keep the areas from food damages. Judging from the above findings, this study concluded that the urbanized area expansions in a big metropolitan city such as Seoul, are greatly influenced by geomorphic environments and the importance of geomorphic conditions still hold true even today when scientific and technological developments have reached unprecedented heights.

  • 국내 저수지 17,477개소 중 30~40 여년전에 축조된 곳은 16,646개소로 95.2%가 노후화로 인한 지속적인 유지보수가 필요하며, 기후변화에 따른 대응능력이 현저하게 낮다. 하구둑, 방조제, 대형 농업용저수지 같은 대규모 농업기반시설들은 축조 당시보다 설계홍수량이 2~3배 이상 증가함에 따라 기후변화에 대비하기 위해 조속한 치수능력 증대가 필요하다. 하지만 대형 농업용저수지의 치수능력 증대를 위해서는 지형적 입지조건, 시공 가능성, 경제성 등을 고려하여 여수로의 위치, 규모, 형식 변경 등이 수반된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 무한천 상류 예당저수지의 여수로 위치변경에 따른 저수지 하류 하천 흐름변화에 대하여 2차원 수치모의 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 TELEMAC-2D 모형을 적용하여 저수지 하류 하천의 흐름을 모의하였고, RMA-2 모의결과와 비교검토 하였다. TELEMAC-2D 모형은 상류(subcritical flow)와 사류(supercritical flow) 흐름 모의가 가능하며, 홍수범람 뿐만아니라 동일 격자망으로 유한요소법과 유한체적법 모두 수치모의가 가능한 특징이 있다. 본 연구에서는 시간과 공간에 대하여 2차 정확도를 가지는 WAF(Weighted Average Flux) 유한체적기법과 $k-{\varepsilon}$ 난류모형을 적용하였다. 수치모의시 유역종합치수계획의 30년, 50년, 100년 빈도 계획홍수량에 대하여 여수로 위치변경 전(CASE-1)과 위치변경 후(CASE-2) 저수지 하류하천 흐름변화에 대해 모의하였다. 본 연구는 국내 하천 특성을 반영한 기설 저수지의 하류하천의 흐름에 대한 수치모의의 기초자료로 활용되어, 저수지 방류 흐름이 하류하천에 미치는 영향 분석 등에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

A Study on Non-point Source Pollutants from Pavement of Coastal Area and Guidance for Selecting BMP (연안지역 포장면 비점오염물질 유출 및 최적관리방안 시설의 선정을 위한 가이던스에 관한 연구)

  • In Korea, there have been many studies and progresses on various types of pilot scale or commercialized field scale Best Management Practices(BMP) during the last 10 years. Runoff characteristics of diffuse pollutants from different land uses are well identified and documented. However, for the coastal area connected directly with shoreline, runoff patterns and management schemes of non-point pollution were not fully studied. Recently, coastal area is emerging as a new development axis especially in west coast side of Korea such as Incheon city and Chungnam province, thus urbanized area rapidly increased but there are no buffer zones and BMP facilities to aim at preventing direct discharge of the first flush into coastal sea and beaches. In this study, parking area in Deacheon harbor, Boryeong City in Chungnam Province was selected and rainfall runoff was monitored for two year period in order to examine run-off features from which proper type of BMP suitable for coastal area is proposed. Coastal area usually has a low ground water level and consists of plain land, so that large scale BMP such as storm water retention pond and wetland requiring great excavation works is not best management plan. In addition, monitoring study shows that storm water from the paved parking area has a high salinity compared with those in storm water from the inland. High salinity is detrimental for the vegetation. Therefore, BMP employing least vegetative cover and also in terms of maintenance is a good option such as infiltration trench and porous pavement.

Topographic Factors Computation in Island: A Comparison of Different Open Source GIS Programs (오픈소스 GIS 프로그램의 지형인자 계산 비교: 도서지역 경사도와 지형습윤지수 중심으로)

  • An area's topography refers to the shape of the earth's surface, described by its elevation, slope, and aspect, among other features. The topographical conditions determine energy flowsthat move water and energy from higher to lower elevations, such as how much solar energy will be received and how much wind or rain will affect it. Another common factor, the topographic wetness index (TWI), is a calculation in digital elevation models of the tendency to accumulate water per slope and unit area, and is one of the most widely referenced hydrologic topographic factors, which helps explain the location of forest vegetation. Analyses of topographical factors can be calculated using a geographic information system (GIS) program based on digital elevation model (DEM) data. Recently, a large number of free open source software (FOSS) GIS programs are available and developed for researchers, industries, and governments. FOSS GIS programs provide opportunitiesfor flexible algorithms customized forspecific user needs. The majority of biodiversity in island areas exists at about 20% higher elevations than in land ecosystems, playing an important role in ecological processes and therefore of high ecological value. However, island areas are vulnerable to disturbances and damage, such as through climate change, environmental pollution, development, and human intervention, and lacks systematic investigation due to geographical limitations (e.g. remoteness; difficulty to access). More than 4,000 of Korea's islands are within a few hours of its coast, and 88% are uninhabited, with 52% of them forested. The forest ecosystems of islands have fewer encounters with human interaction than on land, and therefore most of the topographical conditions are formed naturally and affected more directly by weather conditions or the environment. Therefore, the analysis of forest topography in island areas can be done more precisely than on its land counterparts, and therefore has become a major focus of attention in Korea. This study is focused on calculating the performance of different topographical factors using FOSS GIS programs. The test area is the island forests in Korea's south and the DEM of the target area was processed with GRASS GIS and SAGA GIS. The final slopes and TWI maps were produced as comparisons of the differences between topographic factor calculations of each respective FOSS GIS program. Finally, the merits of each FOSS GIS program used to calculate the topographic factors is discussed.
