  • An irregular cell-based numerical model was developed to analyze underground space flooding. In this model, the flow characteristics in underground space were computed by link-node system. Also, the model can simulate the underground flood flow related to the influence of stairs and wall-structures. Empirical discharge formula were introduced to analyze weir-type flow for shopping mall, and channel-type flow for subway railroad respectively. The simulated results matched in reasonable range compared with the observed depth. The dual-drainage inundation analysis model and the underground space flood analysis model were integrated using visual basic application of ArcGIS system. The developed model can help the decision support system of flood control authority for redesigning and constructing flood prevention structures and making the potential inundation zone, and establishing flood-mitigation measures.

  • The changes of magnetic flux density distribution and the degree of magnetic anomaly on the ground surface by underground fracture zones and empty spaces had been investigated through the variations of the measuring heights. The magnetic flux density distributions were monitored for the ground surfaces of fracture zones, empty spaces and tunnels by fluxgate-type magnetometer. The fracture zones showed the magnetic anomaly with (+) and (-) peak-pairs in the magnetic flux distribution measured at 0.15 m height from the ground surface, and this anomaly disappeared at the height of 1.15 m. The underground empty spaces and tunnels showed the decrease of magnetic flux densities, where the degree of this density decrease diminished with the increase of the underground depth. And, the existence and size of underground empty spaces, such as tunnels and sink holes, could be monitored by the phenomena of this decreasing flux density.

  • The framework plan for the development of an integrated underground space map was established of preventing ground subsidence. The mapping process is expected to be completed to the level of nationwide municipal government standards by end of this year. To facilitate the utilization of the integrated underground space map, paper-based drawings for specialized organizations in underground safety impact assessment have been provided since September 2018, and services for local government officials have been provided in the underground information utilization system since May 2019. However, the map is utilized based on the information at the time of the initial development of the map, without any updates, thereby resulting in a lack of accuracy and latest information. This has led to a decrease in the utilization and reliability of the information. Therefore, in this study, for the underground structures(subway, underground shopping mall, underground passage, underground roadway, underground parking lot, utility tunnel), which are the key components of the integrated underground space map, a standard format for the submission of completed drawings is designed in accordance with Article 42 (2) of the Special Act on Underground Safety Management, which aims at laying the foundation for establishing the updated system of the integrated underground space map. In addition, through the verification of the automatically updated underground structure data based on the standard format, the reliability of the data can be assured. This format is expected to contribute to the improved utilization of the integrated underground space map in the future.
