  • The complicated facilities on the ground have begun to be laid under the ground as increasing emphasis on the beauty of cities due to centralization. But, as the kind of the facilities have been concentrated on the narrow area, accidents occur due to the difficulty of maintenance and the inaccuracy of location information. In this study, first we constructed the field test model to compare with the method of underground probing. So, we could know that the electromagnetic induction method and GPR(Ground Penetration Radar) are useful. It was acquired the position information for the underground facilities using a RTK-GPS. As the result, we have analyzed the accurate position of the underground facility and show the way improving accuracy in detecting and surveying comparing with the traditional surveying method. Also, we hope to contribute the effective maintenance and prevention of disasters to the underground facility as using underground facilities 3D position with Arcview and building the DB of exact depth and underground facilities information system.

  • Because sewer is embedded in land, the pollutant permeating to underground so fast can cause contamination of soil when crack of sewer occurs. In this study, numerical modelling on dispersion of pollutant at sewer crack was performed. Based upon the study, the following conclusions were obtained. It was shown that transfer direction of pollutant was similar to the flow with topography slope of surface. It was exposed that the pollutant permeated to 8~10m depth. It is expected to offer efficiency in sewer management in the future through this research.

  • In order to make the critical path analysis of gas pipeline located under rigid pipes for interference behavior, FE analysis is performed considering real buried conditions of a drain and a gas pipe according to intersection angle of two pipes. A drain pipe and gas pipe have cover depth respectively 1.0m and 3.39m and this study considers a interference angle in the range of $0{\sim}90^{\circ}$. In this paper, the critical path is analyzed from the result of Ring Deflection and bending stress according to intersection angle. In the event intersection angle of two pipes equal to the critical path of lower pipe. The analysis results show that the critical path of lower gas pipe according to interference behavior has relation to intersection angle of two pipes.

  • The safety and structural integrity of buried pipes are usually at risk from constructing loading and compaction of backfill materials. The backfill material should be strong enough to help resistance and redistribute loads so that the buried pipe remains unaffected. Due to the many problems associated with buried pipes, there have been multiple studies on the development of a sustainable backfill material. In this study, a Controlled Low Strength Material made of coal ash was considered as a buried pipe backfill material. To determine the feasibility and performance of this backfill material, a numerical simulation was conducted with the results confirmed by a field test. Results showed maximum settlement to be 2 mm with the elastic strain of the buried pipe to be about 0.006.

  • The earthquake-induced liquefaction of ground brings high possibility of failure of lifeline. If subsurface liquefaction is detected immediately after an earthquake the damage caused by the failure of lifeline can be reduced. The goal is achieved by deploying many accelerometers in the area of possible liquefaction and collecting records through a wireless network. This paper attempts to develop a measure to interpret the collected data oft surface motion and to assess the thickness of liquefied layers. For this purpose. both analysis of earthquake records and shaking table tests on model ground were carried out. It was shown that the thickness of liquefied layers can be assessed by using the maximum acceleration and the spectrum intensity at the surface.

  • Due to current interest in creation of urban space and urban landscape, more emphasis has been placed on underground space development. With increasing number of underground power cables and its importance, a study of backfill materials for pipe is now imperative. Backfill materials require outstanding thermal characteristics since breakdown of cable insulation can be caused if heat generated from transmission of underground power cables had not been effectively discharged through backfill materials. Also, coal ash, which are industrial by-products, is being produced in high volume every year. Among them, ponded ash (PA) is not recycled and instead, mostly buried. Therefore in this study, thermal conductivity test based on mixture ratio (PA, ponded ash : FA, fly ash) was performed to evaluate the thermal conductivity characteristics of CLSM (controlled low strength materials) with coal ash. The results indicate that the mixture ratio (PA, ponded ash : FA, fly ash) of 80:20, water contents of 28~30%, and cement contents of 7-11% showed the highest conductivity at 0.796~0.884W/mK and thus, considered optimal in terms of recycling ponded ash (PA) as well as for maximizing utilization as backfill materials for pipe in underground.

  • The ground cavity occurring in the downtown area is on the increase. However, when ground subsidence is occurred or a cavity that causes it to occur is found, time and economic difficulties are follwed in recovery. In advance, this study conducted to develop filling system for reinforcement material which is consist of polymer pouch and admixture as a new filler material. We developed a polymer pouch that is water soluble in the precedent study. Since the filling system is trenchless method and don't need any plant, it has time and economic benefits. This system uses air pressure to filling out cavity in a short time. We estimate this system with respect to filling speed and filling ratio by model experiment. In addition, we could confirm various filling condition using DEM Analysis. So, we could develop filling system and analysis it.

  • Recently, road cave-ins, also referred to as ground sinking, have become a problem in urban environments. Public utility facilities such as sewage pipelines, communications pipes, gas pipes, power cables, and other types of underground structures are installed below the roads. It was reported that cave-ins are caused by the aging and lack of proper maintenance of underground facilities, as well as by construction problems. A road cave-in is first initiated by the formation of cavities typically induced by the breakage of underground pipelines. The cavities then grow and reach the base of the pavement. The traffic load applied at the surface of the roads causes an abrupt plastic deformation. This type of accident can be considered as a type of disaster. A road cave-in can threaten both human safety and the economy. It may even result in the loss of human life. In the city of Seoul, efforts to prevent damage before cave-ins occur have been prioritized, through a method of discovering and repairing joints through the 3D GPR survey.
