Electrical resistivity tomography was carried out at seawater intrusion monitoring wells located at watershed in coastal areas. It is difficult to identify the characteristics of resistivity near monitoring well in case of using high signalto-noise ratio array due to the high conductivity condition in coastal aquifer although electrical resistivity survey is well adopted to delineate hydrogeological characteristics with the distribution of electrical resistivity. To improve the quality of electrical resistivity survey for two sites with seawater intrusion monitoring wells, inversion with the results of holeto-surface electrical resistivity tomography using single well was executed. The results of inversion for aquifer near wells were verified with the results of drilling log with the informations of fracture, electrical conductivity logging and normal resistivity logging. The inversion for aquifer near one of two wells was also performed at low and high tide with the same electrodes, respectively. From the inversion result, it is possible to obtain the resistivity images with high resolution and to identify the characteristics of aquifer related to seawater intrusion with tidal fluctuation. From this study, it was demonstrated that the hole-to-surface electrical resistivity tomography method accompanied with drilling log, electrical conductivity logging and normal resistivity logging would be useful to delineate the hydrogeological structures near monitoring wells in coastal areas.
In order to effectively, and accurately assess seawater intrusion in coastal area, multidisciplinary data including geophysical, well logging, and hydrogeochemical data should be managed in systematical way. Such systematical management of data is critical key to improve the re-usability of the data as well as the accuracy of the assessment by means of providing a method of synthetic analysis. Therefore, for systematical management of multidisciplinary data in seawater intrusion problem, we have developed a database management system and 3-D visualization interface based on geographic information system in this, study. All geophysical survey, well logging, hydrochemical, as well as drilling, data are classified as attribute data using Microsoft Access, and joined with spatial information based on ArcView. The database management system and 3-D visualization interface to handle these data, also, developed using the script language of ArcView. We think the development of database and 3-D visualization system will improve the efficiency of data management, user-friendliness of data access, and accuracy of data analysis.

In order to assess the seawater intrusion, induction, temperature and conductivity of fluid, and natural gamma logs were obtained in nine wells at the three study areas having different hydrogeologic characteristics. Besides surface geophysical exploration, supplementary geophysical well logs were carried out to understand the hydrogeological characteristics related to the seawater intrusion in the study areas. The geophysical well logs have been proved to increase the accuracy of interpretation of the surface geophyscial exploration's data for assessment of seawater intrusion, and to get the optimum depth for a long monitoring of groundwater. They, also, revealed that the identification of hydrogeological units for strata's porosity was able to be achieved and were illustrated the applicability of geophysical well logs monitoring. Finally, geophysical well logs are expected to play to get the more quantitative information of seawater infusion, if it is fully collaborated with a better method that is strata's resistivity determination with not relatively much effected by seawater within the drilled borehole and that is the porosity measurement with built on small diameter PVC casing.
Both surface seismic and far-offset VSP data were recorded alongtwo mutually perpendicular profiles in the Pungam basin. The first-arrival times were simultaneously inverted using the tomography method. For the surface data, seismic energy was generated by a 5-kg sledgehammer at 48 stations and detected by 21 surface geophones at 3 m intervals and one 3-component geophone in test borehole for the purpose of static corrections. For the VSP data, seismic waves generated by the sledgehammer on the ground were detected by a 3-component borehole geophone in a depth range of $9{\sim}99\;m$. Delay times of the hammer data were corrected using the seisgun data before the inversion to yield velocity tomograms. The tomograms indicates that the soil layer with velocities less than 750 m/s averages 1.8 m thick. The velocity varies from 5353 m/s at the depth range of $31{\sim}40\;m$ to 4262 m/s at the depth range of $65{\sim}73\;m$. Compared with core samples, the relatively large variation in velocity may due to lithology changes and fracture effects with depth.
In this study, electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) were conducted to find the mineralized zone at the Geumpung mine in Dojeon-ri, Susan-myeon, Jecheon-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. The deviation of the inclined borehole was measured to obtain the exact positions of the electrodes for correcting apparent resistivity values from ERT. Geophysical loggings such as resistivity and natural gamma were conducted to obtain the properties of the material near the borehole. Measurements of the physical properties of the cores, such as porosity, water content, density, susceptibility, resistivity were performed to analyze the correlation between physical properties and resistivity. Grade analysis for core sample was also conducted to identify relationship between grade and resistivity. Rock property analysis shows that the resistivity is more dominated by susceptibility and grade than by porosity and water content in the mineralized zone. The results of ERT are well consistent with geophysical logging data and geologic column. So ERT is powerful method to identify conductive mineralized zone.

The hydrogeologic structure in the Chojung area was evaluated from a set of geological and geophysical investigations: detailed geological survey, vertical electric sounding (VES), borehole logging, and controlled-source magnetotelluric (CSMT) survey. Among these, CSMT soundings were taken for integrated interpretation to extend hydrogeologic structure with depth. The result of CSMT survey along with VES and borehole logging provides the vertical geologic boundary connected with hydrogeologic structure, and also indicates the depth of aquifer in granite basement. To interpret the geologic boundary and aquifer characteristics using CSMT data, we adopted the technique of 1-D inversion with smoothness-constrained method and 2-D continuous profiling with 1-D Bostick inversion and spatial filtering. The methodology tested and adopted in this study would be useful and required for providing a more information to the structure of fractured aquifer system.
3D travel time tomography was conducted to characterize the subsuface structure in the valley area. In this study, an area($200m{\times}200m$), where borehole informations were available to aid in the interpretation, was covered with wide source/receiver coverage. In data acquisition, both hole to hole and reverse VSP array was employed. For the inversion, 3D seismic traveltime tomography algorithm based on Fresnel volume was implemented. When compared 3D velocity cube with the geological survey and drilling logs, both results were matched well. From this, we concluded that 3D seismic travel time tomography has enough potential to the field application.
Velocity structures were defined in the vicinty of the 140-m deep test borehole in the pungam basin through simultaneous inversion of surface seismic refraction and far-ofset VSP traveltime data. Seismicenergy generated at the surface by a seisgun was recorded both at 42 surface locations at 3-m intervalsalong the profiles in the N20E and its orthogonal directions and at 71 m depth in the borehole. Forthe ofset VSP study, seismic energy was generated by a 5 kg sledgehamer at the surface in the horizontal ofset range of -19.5∼+19.5 m from the borehole. The seismic signals were detected at 9∼99 m depths with 1∼2 m intervals and recorded for 204 ms per shot. After shot static corrections,first-arrival times picked from both the surface refraction and borehole records were simultaneouslyinverted to yield velocity tomograms. The tomograms indicate that a 1.5 m thick soil layer with velocities les than 500 m/s overlies basements having a velocity range of 3,067 ∼5,717 m/s. Within the basements,∼4 m and deeper than 71 m. The high-velocit yzones may be due to conglomerates intercalated with sandstones and siltstones. No evidence for large-scale fracture zones or faults is detected near the borehole
This study, combining geophysical and environmental approaches, was undertaken to investigate the causes of secondary salinity in the Goondoola basin, in southwestern Queensland. Airborne radiometric, electromagnetic and ground electromagnetic datasets were acquired, along with data on soils and subsurface materials and groundwater. Relationships established between radiometric, elevation data, and measured material properties allowed us to generate predictive maps of surface materials and recharge potential. Greatest recharge to the groundwater is predicted to occur on the weathered bedrock rises surrounding the basin. Electromagnetic data (airborne, ground, and downhote), used in conjunction with soil and drillhole measurements, were used to quantify regolith salt store and to define the subsurface architecture. Conductivity measurements reflect soil salt distribution. However, deeper in the regolith, where the salt content is relatively constant, the AEM signal is influenced by changes in porosity or material type. This allowed the lateral distribution of bedrock weathering zones to be mapped. Salinisation in this area occurs because of local-andintermediate-scale processes, controlled strongly by regolith architecture. The present surface outbreak is the result of evaporative concentration above shallow saline groundwater, discharging at break of slope. The integration of surficial and subsurface datasets allowed the identification of similar landscape settings that are most at risk of developing salinity with groundwater rise. This information is now being used by local land managers to refine management choices that prevent excess recharge and further salt mobilisation.
To delineate the inhomogeneities including fractures and to estimate the freshness of rock borehole radar consisting of the reflection and tomography methods, and GPR surveys were conducted at a granite quarry mine. The borehole reflection survey using the direction finding antenna was also conducted to get the spatial orientations of reflectors. 20 MHz was adopted as the central frequency for the borehole radar reflection and tomography surveys and 100 MHz was for GPR. Through the interpretation of borehole reflection data using dipole and direction finding antenna as well as GPR images, which are good agreement with each other, we could determine the orientation of the major fractures in three dimensional way. Parts of travel time curves of tomography data showed the anisotropy, which is uncommon in granite quarry. By comparing the tomography data and TeleViewer images, the anisotropy effect in this area are closely related to fine fissures aligned in the same direction. The area confined by the two fractures, MF2 and MF5, might consist of the most fresh granite in the surveyed area, which was concluded from the borehole radar tomography, and GPR images as well as the distribution of anisotropy.
