Fault plane solutions of the Iksan earthquake ($M_L=3.85$) and two aftershocks were obtained using the FOCMEC (FOCal MEChanism determination) program. The main event showed the characteristic of strike slip faulting with reverse component. It has the fault planes with NE-SW or NW-SE direction. This is similar to the fault characteristics of earthquake pattern in the inland area of the Korean Peninsula. In order to detect micro-earthquake events, continuous seismic waveform data of the thirteen seismic stations within a radius of 100km from epicenter were analyzed by PQLII program (PASSCAL, 2017) for the period from December 15, 2015 to January 22, 2016. The epicenters of nineteen micro-events were newly determined by Hypoinverse-2000 program. They are not concentrated along some lineaments or fault lines. The intensity of the Iksan earthquake was obtained by estimating the telephone inquiries, the degree of ground shaking or damage all around the southern peninsula. The instrumental intensity was also obtained using PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) records. As a result, the maximum MM intensity was estimated to be V near the epicenter.

We estimated the spectrum decay parameter $\chi$ and the stress parameter ($\Delta$$\sigma$) in southeastern Korea. Especially, we propose a procedure to compute site-independent $\chi$$_{q}$ and dependent $\chi$$_{s}$ values, separately, This procedure is to use the coda normalization method for the computation of site independent Q or corresponding $\chi$$_{q}$ value as the first step followed by the next step, the computation of $\chi$$_{s}$ values for each site using the given $\chi$$_{q}$ value evaluated at the first step, For the estimation of stress parameter, we used seismic data monitored from three earthquakes occurred near Gyeongju in 1999 with the method of Jo and Baag, In addition, we simulated strong ground motion using the $\chi$ value and the stress parameter, In this case, we calculated the $\chi$ value with conventional method. The $\chi$ value of 0.016+0.000157R and the stress parameter of 92-bar was applied to the stochastic simulation, At last, we derived seismic attenuation equation using results of the stochastic prediction, and compared these results with some others reported previously.ported previously.
The Korean peninsula has been considered as seismically intermediate region, since seismic activities have not been severe for long time and the active tectonic boundary is also located far away. However, the activities of earthquakes have been increased significantly for last decade. Since currently important structures and facilities are increasing rapidly in the Korean Peninsula, the importance of seismic design are increasing exponentially too. This study used observed ground motion of Fukuoka event including 11 afterschocks and then estimated seismic parameters representing seismic source, propagation effect, considering site amplification. The results were comparable to those of other studies in the same region. The results could be used as basic important parameters for seismic design of the important structures and facilities in Korean peninsula.

We analysed seismic phases recorded by the 10 December 2002 Cheolwon, Korea, earthquake of $M_{L}$ 3.6 and obtained source parameters such as hypocenter, origin time, earthquake magnitude. Velocity and acceleration records used in this study are from the KMA and KIGAM seismic networks. Due to the location of the epicenter in the north of the DMZ(Demilitarized Zone), direct Pg phases were recorded only at five stations in the area south of DMZ. Identification of refracted Pn phase as the first arrival is difficult in most stations. Therefore, the hypocenter determined by existing routine methods could be affected by a large error. In order to avoid the possibility of the problem, we employed a method of seismic phase analysis developed by Kim et al.. The direct, refracted, and reflected P and S phases were successfully identified using the method together with the travel time curve data. In order to improve the accuracy in determination of the hypocenter and origin time, we included PmP and SmS phases in the analysis in addition to the phases such as Pg, Pn, Sg and Sn. The epicenter, depth, and origin time of the Cheolwon earthquake determined based on data of 11 stations within 200km from the epicenter are $38.81^{\circ}$N, $127.22^{\circ}$E, 12.0km, and 7:42:51.4(local time), respectively. The average value of the local magnitude based on the Richter's definition from all the stations is 3.6 in $M_{L}$. This magnitude is smaller by 0.2 and 0.5 compared with magnitudes determined by KMA and KIGAM, respectively.
On September 23, 2020, at 1:39 a.m., a bright fireball above Seocheon was observed across the country. Two fireball explosions were identified in the images of the All-Sky Camera (ASC), and the shock waves were recorded at seismic and infrasound stations in the southwestern Korean Peninsula. The location of the explosion was estimated by a Bayesian-based location method using the arrival times of the fireball-associated seismic and infrasound signals at 17 stations. Realistic azimuth- and rang-dependent propagation speeds of sound waves were incorporated into the location method to increase the reliability of the results. The location of the sound source was found to be 36.050°N, 126.855°E at an altitude of 35 km, which was close to the location of the second fireball explosion. The two explosions were identified as sequential infrasound arrivals at local infrasound stations. Simulations of waveforms for long ranges explain the detection results at distant infrasound stations, up to ~266 km from the sound source. The dominant period of the signals recorded at five infrasound stations is about 0.4 s. A period-energy relation suggests the explosion energy was equivalent to ~0.3 ton of TNT.
Infrasound signals associated with the 29 May 2004 offshore Uljin earthquake (Mw 5.1) were recorded at infrasound arrays of CHNAR (epicentral distance of 321 km) and TJNAR (256 km). Back-azimuths, indicating the directions to source locations, varied more than 28° broadly for the long-lasting signals over several minutes. From the analysis of the back-projecting location method and attenuation correction for infrasound propagation, the infrasound waves were to be generated by the interaction (diffraction) between seismic waves and topography in an area of ~4,600 ㎢ connecting the Samcheok-Uljin-Pohang regions. The maximum sound source pressure (BSP) was estimated to be 11.1 Pa. This result was consistent with the peak sound pressure (PSP) calculated by the Rayleigh integral approximation to the peak ground acceleration (PGA) dataset. In addition, the minimum PGA that was detectable at the two arrays was estimated to be ~3.0 cm s-2. Although the earthquake occurred offshore, diffracted infrasound signals were effectively generated by ground motions when seismic surface waves passed through high-topographic regions in the eastern Korean Peninsula. The relationship between infrasound source pressure and PGA can be applicable to characterize the ground motions in areas with insufficient seismological observatories.

Monitoring of crustal movement by earthquake is an important line of study in geophysics and geodesy. In this Study, before and after the earthquake data about nine IGS permanent stations were processed by Precise Positioning System to analysis the influence area about Japanese earthquake in March 11 at 2:46pm. As the result of crustal deformation monitoring, the quantitative earthquake displacement and change of crustal movement was presented. Crustal movement monitoring using continuous GPS data processing is necessary for crustal research and predicting earthquake because crustal movement assumed a new aspect before and after the earthquake in Japan.
The horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) has been widely applied to evaluate ground characteristics such as site response and thickness of the soft sedimentary layer on top of the bedrock via dominant frequencies and amplification factors of microtremors. Eight seismic stations were selected to investigate the HVSR results at the surface and at varying depths, and their variations due to wind speeds. These stations are equipped with seismic sensors on the surface and downhole(s) at depths. The borehole data analysis reveals that the geological condition at burial depth influences the HVSR results. Their dominant frequencies indicate the entire thickness of the soft layer, not the thickness to the bottom or top of the soft sedimentary layer from the seismometer burial depth. Analysis of the background noise observed at the surface showed that the resonance frequency estimation varied with wind speed changes. In the studied cases, the background noise observed in the sedimentary layer at depths of 20 to 66 meters yielded stable and consistent resonance frequency estimation regardless of wind speed fluctuations. The results of the seismic sensors buried deeper than 100 meters are unstable. The result indicates that the background noise from the buried seismometer at shallow depths (~0.3 m) under light wind conditions (wind speeds less than 3 m/s) is sufficient to achieve the purpose of the HVSR analysis.

The purpose of the present study is to analyse characteristics of the background noise for the broadband seismic stations in KMA. It is well known that the background noise arises continuously from long period microseism, sea waves, minute changes of atmospheric pressure, seasonal temperature change of the ground surface, culture activities, and etc. The background noise shows spatial and temporal changes and it has various characteristics such as its spectral amplitudes in frequency domain are not constant Such the background noise gives considerable influences on the quality of seismic record. To investigate annual variations, the background noise was separated into high frequency components of above 1Hz More larger average amplitude is found in winter than other seasons. The average amplitude for 12 seismic stations are compared. It is known that the background noise is considerably larger in stations located in island region such as Jeju, Ulleungdo, and Bagryeongdo seismic stations. However the noise is relatively small in inland stations such as Chuncheon, Chungju and Uljin seismic stations.
Source parameters for forty four earthquakes which occurred in and around the Korean Peninsula were determined and the relations between them were studied. Snoke's method (Snoke, 1987) was applied in determining the corner frequencies and seismic moments. In general, the source parameters estimated at different stations for an earthquake show different values. These disagreements have been interpreted as originating, in principle, from an inadequate consideration of the source radiation pattern and direction dependent attenuation and amplification. The comer frequencies and seismic moments were averaged to exclude the such directional effects. Other source parameters were estimated from the mean corner frequency and seismic moment. The static stress drops, determined in this study, tend to be independent of seismic moment for events greater than a specific magnitude. For earthquakes with a size less than about $1.0{\times}10^{22}$ dyne-cm (nearly same as $M_L = 4.0$), the stress drop tends to decrease with the decreasing moment. This fact suggests a breakdown of the scaling law of source parameters in earthquakes below the threshold magnitude.
