Numerical Investigation of Load Carrying Capacity of Geogrid-Encased Stone Columns under Foundation Load (구조물 기초하중 작용시 지오그리드 보강 쇄석말뚝의 하중지지 특성에 관한 수치해석 연구)

  • This paper presents the results of a numerical investigation on load carrying capacity of geogrid-encased stone columns to use as load carrying column(s) supporting a foundation load. A validated 3D stress-pore pressure coupled model that can effectively show rapid drainage capability of stone columns and encasement effect of geogrid was adopted and a parametric study was carried out on a number of influencing factors. It is shown that the geogrid encased stone columns can be effectively used as foundation load supporting columns in soft ground. The results of numerical investigation were presented so that the relationship between the load carrying capacity of geogrid-encased stone columns and the influencing factors can be identified. Practical implications of the findings are also discussed.

  • It is well known that human brain has the advantage of handling disperse and parallel distributed data efficiently. On the basic of this fact, artificial neural networks theory was developed and has been applied to various fields of science successfully. In this study, error back propagation algorithm which is one of the teaching technique of artificial neural networks is applied to predict ultimate bearing capacity of pile foundations. For the verification of applicability of this system, a total of 28 data of model pile test results are used. The 9, 14 and 21 test data respectively out of the total 28 data are used for training the networks, and the others are used for the comparison between the predicted and the measured. The results show that the developed system can provide a good matching with model pile test results by training with data more than 14. These limited results show the possibility of utilizing the neural networks for pile capacity prediction problems.

  • Since vibrations in rotating machinery is a direct cause of performance degradation and failures, it is very important to predict the level of vibrations as well as have a method to lower the vibrations to an acceptable level. However, the changes in balancing during installation and the vibrational modes of the support structure are difficult to predict. This paper presents a method for predicting the unbalanced response of a turbo-compressor supported by active magnetic bearings (AMBs). Transfer functions of the rotor are obtained through system identification using AMBs. These transfer functions contain not only the dynamics of the rotor but also the vibrational modes of the support structure. Using these transfer functions, the unbalanced response is calculated and compared with the run-up data obtained from a compressor prototype. The predictions revealed the effects of the support structure, validating the efficacy of the method.

  • Military aircraft may have fatigue cracks in structurally weak areas due to multiple factors such as the accumulation of flight time while perform various missions and unpredictable air conditions. As a fatigue crack progresses, there is a risk that the structure will be destroyed in extreme cases, which can have a significant impact on flight safety. In this study, a cracking phenomenon was observed during the periodic inspection the inner support of the fairing, which is installed to protect the connection between the wing and the body of the aircraft. Therefore, a study on a series of quality improvement processes for reformation was described. In order to identify the causes of cracks, pre-load generation occurrence during the wing assembly process was investigated and a fracture analysis was performed. Also, the design of the support structure was suggested in terms of preventing recurrence of cracks. The structural integrity was verified using a stress and fatigue life analysis.

Roadbed Bearing Capacity Associated with Estimated Impact Factor in Conventional and Improved Turnout System (기존 및 개량 분기기 충격계수 산정에 따른 노반 지지력)

  • Since the turnout system in railroad restricts the train speed, the KNR (Korean National Railroad) provides the specification for the speed (130km/h) of the train when the train passes the turnout system. Therefore, the turnout system in pre-existing railroad is necessary to be improved to speed-up for the train. In this study, the dynamic wheel-load field tests have been performed to evaluate the track performance and the roadbed bearing capacity has been examined using numerical analysis at the turnout crossing in the conventional and improved turnout system. The impact factor is estimated using the data sets achieved from the dynamic wheel-load field tests in the conventional and improved turnout system. The stress acting on the roadbed for the improved turnout system is substantially decreased compare to that for the conventional turnout system.

  • Solid mattress foundation using geogrid has often been used on soft grounds to increase the bearing capacity, and its effect has received much recognition. Geogrid-mattress system is the method of construction which increases the bearing capacity and the effect of controlling settlement by dispersing load to wider foundation through its stiffness. But ifs mechanism has not been examined exactly yet. considered to be influential factors in the experiments. As a result of the experiments, the characteristic of dispersing stress under mattress foundations was understood and the way of calculating the bearing capacity in designing the mattress foundations was suggested.

Support Deflection Effects in Slabs with Beam and Girder (보-거더 시스템 슬래브에서 지지부 처짐영향에 관한 연구)

  • In this study the support deflection effects in beam-girder slabs which are broadly being adopted in building structures are studied for both distributed loads and concentrated vehicle loads. Taking the finite element analysis of slabs supported with one or two cross beams, the member forces of slabs including the support stiffness have been calculated. Based on the obtained numerical results and regression analysis of those, correction factors of member forces for slabs supported with girders and cross beams have been proposed. Finally, the validity of the proposed correction factors are demonstrated through a typical design example.

  • We propose an automatic spam filter for e-mail data using Support Vector Machines(SVM). We use a lexical form of a word and its part of speech(POS) tags as features and select features by chi square statistics. We represent each feature by TF(text frequency), TF-IDF, and binary weight for experiments. After training SVM with the selected features, SVM classifies each e-mail as spam or not. In experiment, the selected features improve the performance of our system and we acquired overall 98.9% of accuracy with TREC05-p1 spam corpus.

  • 본 연구에서는 공기포일 베어링으로 지지된 로터 베어링 시스템을 구성하고 실험을 수행함으로써 시스템의 진동을 측정하고 그 결과를 해석함으로써 로터 베어링 시스템의 안정성 검토한다. 또, 초기 구동 마찰을 고려하여 공기윤활로만 구동되는 경우와 초기에 베어링 표면에 오일이 도포된 경우를 비교한다. Transient data를 해석 함으로써 로터 베어링 시스템의 startup 및 shutdown에 대한 특성 파악이 가능해지며 시스템의 동적 특성에 대한 더욱 정확한 해석을 가능케한다.

회전축계의 진동해석 시스템

  • 동력을 발생하거나 이를 이용하는 대부분의 기계장치는 회전하는 축계 장치 를 갖고 있는데 이들은 중량을 갖는 회전체와 이것을 지지하거나 연결하는 강성축과 베어링으로 구성되므로 진동형태에 따른 고유진동수를 나타낸다. 그 결과 축계 장치 가 운전되는 동안 발생하는 기진력이 축계 강도를 초과하거나 진동수가 시스템의 공진점에 일치하던지 가까우면 이들 진동에 의해 축계 장치에 부착되어 있는 카프링, 감속기어, 지지베어링, 밀봉씰, 공정볼트 등이 이상마모 또는 피로파괴의 원인이 되므로 설계시나 운전중에 이에 대한 진동원인들을 PC를 이용하여 현장운전자들이 쉽게 규명할 수 있도록 개발하고 발생되는 진동문제를 효과적으로 해결할 수 있는 진동 저감장치를 몇 가지 소걔하였다. 국내에서 제작되는 선박, 자동차, 발전프랜트 또는 여기에 설치되는 엔진의 진동저감울 위해 이들 소프트웨어와 하드웨어들은 국내 관련기업의 현장기술 지도를 위해 여러차례 활용된 바 있으며 이를 이용하므로 써 축계진동 저감기술 자립은 물론 국산화 제품의 성능향상에도 크게 기여할 수 있다고 본다.
