  • 알렉산드로스대왕의 정복 이후 그리스과학의 중심은 아테네에서 지중해 건너 북아프리카의 알렉산드리아로 옮아 갔다. 알렉산드로스가 죽자 제국은 셋으로 나누어 졌는데, 이집트는 프톨레마이오스 3세가 차지했다. 그는 알렉산드리아에 뤼케이온을 본땄으나 규모가 훨씬 큰 무제이온(Museion)을 세웠다. 무제이온은 도서관, 동물원, 식물원, 천문대, 해부실을 포함한 방대한 교육${\cdot}$연구기관이었다. 여기에는 본토에서 초빙해 온 교수 백여명이 있었다고 한다.

Community Structure of Macrobenthos at the Intertidal Zone of Jukbyeon in the East Coast of Korea (동해안 죽변 조간대 저서동물의 계절적 군집 구조)

  • This study was carried out to analyze the community structure and distribution of macrobenthos at the intertidal zone of Jukbyeon in Uljin-gun during 2015-2016. The number of species were total 41 from 5 phyla. The species composition of Cnidaria 4, Mollusca 19, Annelida 3, Arthropoda 13, Echinodermata 2 and the individuals was $1,642inds./m^2$ and the weight was $1,959.42gWWt./m^2$ in the study area. The dominant species of the upper zones were Chthamalus challengeri and Nodilittorina radiata. Those of the lower zones were Mytilus galloprovincialis, Nipponacmaea schrenckii and Chlorostoma turbinata. The dominant species of the upper zones of winter and spring were C. challengeri, the summer and autumn of the N. radiata. Those of the lower zones were all seasonal of M. galloprovincialis. As a result of cluster analysis, those regions were divided in three groups, which were a group A of December 2015, August 2015 and February to August 2016 of intertidal zone lower, group B of December 2016 and May 2015 of intertidal zone lower, group C of intertidal zone upper.

Recruitment patterns of sessile organisms on the artificial PVC panels in Jangmok Bay, southern coast of Korea (남해 장목만 부착생물의 PVC 인공부착판에서의 가입양상)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the recruitment pattern of sessile organisms on the artificial substrates of PVC in Jangmok Bay, Geoje Island, southern coast of Korea. Five PVC plates were submerged from March to October, 2007 at one month interval, and two plates were retrieved after one month. The dominant recruiters were a green algae, Entermorpha prolifera in March, Mytilus galloprovincialis in April, M. galloprovincialis and Styela plicata in May, S. plicata and Bugula sp. in June. During August, Balanus amphtrite and anthozoans were dominant recruiters, and a serpulid worm, Hydroides ezoensis in October. There was a clear specific recruiting period of sessile faunas depending on their reproduction cycles in a sheltered embayment like Jangmok Bay.

  • The first zoeae of Hyastenus elongatus (Ortmann, 1893) were obtained in thelaboratory from hatching. They are described, illustrated in detail and compared with the previously described zoeae of the subfamily pisinae. The zoeae of H. elongatus are similar to, but may be distinguished from those of Hyastenus diacnathus (De Haan, 1839), by the number of setae on the postero-lateral carapace margin and mouthpart appendages, and the length of a dorsal carapace spine. In the mouthpart appendages, the difference in the number of setae on an endopod of the maillule between H. eleongatus and H. diacanthus is doubtful, and it should be necessary ot make a detailed re-description of H. diacanthus.

An Analysis of KoreaMed MeSH Check Tags (KoreaMed MeSH 체크태그 분석)

  • KoreaMed MeSH 반자동 색인 시스템이 논문 제목, 초록 그리고 저자키워드를 활용하여 부여한 KoreaMed MeSH 체크태그와 NLM의 MeSH 색인전문가가 부여한 MEDLINE MeSH 체크태그와의 일치여부를 비교 분석하였다. KoreaMed 학술지중에서 MEDLINE에 등재된 15종 학술지의 2012년 마지막 호에 실린 논문 236편을 표본으로 선정하여 일치도를 분석한 결과 MEDLINE MeSH 체크태그와 KoreaMed MeSH 체크태그와의 일치율은 30.24%였다. 그러나 KoreaMed MeSH 체크태그를 기준으로 했을 경우 MEDLINE MeSH 체크태그와의 일치율은 84.24%에 달했다. 일치율은 종별이 가장 높았고, 동물명, 성별, 연령그룹순이었다. 연령그룹에 대하여 초록내 패턴을 발견하여 반자동색인 필터로 적용한다면 일치율을 높일 수 있다. 궁극적으로는 연구의 핵심적인 연구대상이나 재료를 특정적이고 구체적인 단어 혹은 MeSH로 표현하는 초록 작성 기술이 요청된다.

Improvement Effect of the Eucommia ulmoides Extracts on CIA-induced Rheumatoid Arthritis Animal Models (두충 추출물의 류마티스관절염 동물모델에 대한 개선 효과)

  • The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of Eucommia ulmoides extracts on rheumatoid arthritis biomarker in a CIA-induced DBA/1 mice. For evaluation, Eucommia ulmoides extracts was administered orally at dose of 100 mg/kg/day for 4 weeks after production of an animal model of rheumatoid arthritis and we confirmed the treatments' effects based on serum biomarker, radiological, structural parameter analysis. Compared to the negative control group, the Eucommia ulmoides extracts treatments significantly reduced the serum level of inflammation and immunoglobulin markers (i.e., TNF-α, IgG, and hs-CRP), and significantly decreased the monocyte count of white blood cells. Furthermore, the Eucommia ulmoides extracts treatments effectively preserved the joint destruction, and little the joint deformation. Moreover, compared to the negative control group, the Eucommia ulmoides extracts treatments increased the bone volume, and significantly decreased bone inflammation. The results indicate that the Eucommia ulmoides extracts improved rhrumatoid arthritis symptoms. Thus, the Eucommia ulmoides extracts may be a novel therapeutic option for the management of rheumatoid arthritis.

The Effects of Korea Ginger Essential oil on Chronic Mild Stress-induced Rats Model of Sympathetic Hyperactivity (국내 생강 에센셜오일이 만성 스트레스로 교감신경이 항진된 동물 모델에 미치는 영향)

  • Exposure to stress can lead to sympathetic hyperactivity, which include a systemic disease with lesions in a broad spectrum of organs and a psychiatric condition. The purpose aimed to evaluate the effect of the korea ginger essential oil on stress hormone and brain tissue response in chronic mild stress-induced rats model of sympathetic hyperactivity. Evaluation method carried out cytotoxicity assessment and component analysis, what observe the effects based on serum biomarker and histopathological analysis of brain tissue. As this time, the korea ginger essential oil was treatment at doses of 100 nl/㎖ for 2 weeks after make a chronic mild stress-induced rats model of sympathetic hyperactivity. As a result, the korea ginger essential oil was not toxic at less than 100 nl/㎖, contents of 6-gingerol was 345 ppm. Compared to the control rats, the korea ginger essential oil treatments significantly reduced the serum concentrations of stress hormone (i.e., ACTH, corticosterone, melatonin). Furthermore, The korea ginger essential oil treatments effectively preserved the TH-immune response was occasionally interrupted in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). The results indicate that the korea ginger essential oil improved sympathetic hyperactivity. Thus, the korea ginger may be a novel material of aroma oils for the management of sympathetic hyperactivity.
