  • This research analyzes the economic attitude and economic literacy of college students that attended college or graduated within one year. The study measures diverse traits of economics, such as economic rationality, economic interest, risk aversion, and competitive spirit or selfishness. Results show that students enrolled in economics courses have an interest in economics, received high grades, and graduates have a relatively higher level of economic rationality. Second, students who have taken courses in economics showed a higher level of interest in economics. Thus, the correlation between such education and students' interest cannot be denied. Third, regardless of their experience in taking economics courses, the level of knowledge in economics is low for community college students. Although the rationality and interest of those students enrolled in economics courses are higher compared to students not enrolled in such courses, it does not play a pivotal role in enhancing their economic intelligence. This shows that the current education in economics positively influences an individual's economic traits but does not necessarily generate knowledge in economics. Education should focus more on associating essential economic concepts with real-world issues.

Also, it tried to analyze consumers' communication network in the structural, substantial, and relational level, which is to verify how characteristics and meanings of communication network structure affect to a good corporate reputation. A survey toward 200 participants was conducted during 5 days from March 29 to April 3, 2012. Characteristics of communication network structure of a corporation with higher reputation is analyzed using the index such as degree, degree centrality, and density. The findings of the study show that a corporation with higher reputation has higher network degree, degree centrality, and density compared to a corporation with lower reputation. Consumers of a corporation with higher reputation get information from various overlapping sources. It allows them to share similar interpretation, which could elevate the degree, degree centrality, and density of network. It also proved that when the network density is high, a corporation with higher reputation can distribute information much faster and easier. Moreover, in the substantial level of social capital, product/service information network has high degree and density rather than corporate issue information network. Likewise, degree and density of information acquisition network was higher than those of information provision network. Also, this study verified the effect and relationship between the network structure characteristics and corporate loyalty in a relational level. In this way, the positive effect of the degree centrality on corporate loyalty was supported. In conclusion, as consumers share more information from overlapping sources, the degree of communication network gets higher. Throughout this network, the diffusion of information among consumers would be activated, and this confirmed that corporate reputation and corporate loyalty is closely related.

  • This article presents a historical account of media role in the transition and consolidation period of democracy. Despite the assumption that media plays a important role in the construction of democracy, it is less clear how the media can affect the process of political change itself. This article seeks to answer some of these question, based on the Mill's macro-social comparative 'method of difference' of Korea and Spain. It is widely agreed that both states achieve democracy through transaction from above(pacts). Media role, however, differs significantly in accordance with authoritarian legacies and civic representativeness of the pacts. Whereas Korean dailies is deepening given market oligopoly and prior practices after democratization, Spain dailies market entirely changed in both structural and spiritual respects. As a result, Korean dailies substantially lacks in civic representativeness as before, contrary to Spain. Spain television settled a sort of the external pluralism. Korean television is pursuing the BBC type of internal pluralism. In Korea, television is more commercial than Spain. Consequently, Spain media serve the consolidation of democracy more than Korea on the whole.

  • This study analyzed the trends of broadcaster licensing policy during 1990-2001 in Korea. It is to seek the answers about how the examination standards and procedures applied to broadcaster licensing has been changed for the last decade. For the purpose this study inquired six cases such as private broadcasting licence (1990 October), cable TV program provider licences(1993 July), cable TV system operator licences(1994 January), private local broadcaster licences(1994 July), satellite broadcaster licence(2000 December) and cable TV home shopping channel licences(2001 March). It examined the degree of specification and measurement of the standards based upon the government white paper; average points per item, average points per quantitative item, and average points per qualitative item etc. The government hadn't opened the standards and procedures how it licensed broadcasters until 1990 and the uncertain attitude brought distrust on the government broadcasting policy. The first white paper about broadcaster licensing was made in 1994 after cable TV broadcaster licensing was finished. The results indicated that Korean broadcasting licensing policy rapidly developed in the dimension of transparency from 'a secret room policy' to 'a sunshine policy' for the last decade. But it still needs improvement in the dimension of fairness of examination. Now one of the main distrust is the ratio that the one of qualitative examination standards are much more than the qualitative one.

  • In South Korea, the community building projects and so-called 'community businesses' are recently regarded as one of the popular issues for the local people and social activists. The project seems to be a miracle resolution for various social matters such as the deteriorating welfare, health care, security system and the worsening income problem, etc. But these promising social discourses and practices which encourage to build communities are not only constructing 'good governance' for the sound cooperation between the state and civil society, but also allowing government technologies to manage and regulate civil society and citizens. This irony of building community is not yet thoroughly considered. The aim of this article is to ask 'Is building community good for all of people?'; 'How does community guarantee the freedom of people who participate in?'. The reflection for community in South Korean Society has related to The May 18-community in Gwangju. The May 18-community is a keystone for understanding the ethos and pathos of community. This study tries to unravel the relation between the May Uprising and the idea of community throughout affects and hearts of participants. The lived experience and testimony of the people of Gwangju in May, 1980, reveals that community should not be in an order and an notion of security. Examining hearts of members of 'whatever community' in the May Uprising is essential to imagine a new form of community which incorporates liberation and freedom as its base.
