The Effects of Sectoral Composition on the Consumption Risk-Sharing via Capital Market for the US case (미국의 주별 산업구조가 소비위험 분산에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • We pursue empirically influential determinants of risk-sharing across various groups in the United States. We consider all the possible combinations out of the eight BEA economic regions and relate the risk-sharing measure for each group to sectoral composition difference under the control of the state-level macroeconomic and financial characteristics. Our results show that more active risk-sharing via cross-ownership market is observed in groups exhibiting more different sectoral composition. The evidence implies that, given other economic and financial conditions equal, economic union tends to share more consumption risk among its members that are more heterogeneous in their sectoral composition. These days, many countries aim to form FTA and other forms of economic integration. We suggest that they should pay attention to sectoral composition for member countries to minimizes income shock in the integrated economy.

  • 전력산업의 전통적 구조는 수직적으로 통합된 전기사업자가 지역별로 독점사업자로 활동하며 정부가 진입과 퇴출 및 가격 잭정 등에 대하여 규제하는 형태로 되어 있다. 이 형태는 1980년대 미국의 Samuel Insull 이 전력회사 사장으로서 자신의 Chicago Edison을 수직적으로 통합된 지역독점사업자로 구조를 갖춘 이래 세계 각국에서 이것을 본받음으로써 정착된 것이다. 물론 발송전부문만 수직적으로 통합되고 배전부문은 분리 분할된 경우도 있고 반대로 송배전부문은 통합되고 발전부문은 분리 분할된 경우도 있다. 또한 소규모 독립발전사업자가 지역전기사업자와 장기전력구매계약을 맺고 전력을 납품하는 경우도 있었다.   • This study examines the impact of national economic restructuring on regional development patterns. Korea's development over the last decade has been characterized by a rapid economic restructuring towards the information economy. This economic restructuring has had significant impacts on regional development patterns. The most remarkable feature is a clear coreperiphery disparity in terms of levels of informatization. Seoul showed an extraordinarily high level of informatization. The process of regional development in the information era is marked by an intensified spatial division of labor, which articulates with the pre-existing pattern of regional disparity. Information infrastructrue improvements for regional development do not necessarily result in reductions in regional unevenness. There is an urgent need to develop the integrated regional informatization strategy.

Industrial Path Changes in Shipbuilding Cities: Focusing on the Decline of the Shipbuilding Industry Since 2010s (조선업 특화 도시의 산업 경로 변화: 2010년대 이후 조선업 불황을 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the industrial structural changes and types of specialized in the shipbuilding cities, which are representative sectors of industrial city decline, and explore regional responses. Most cities designated as special areas for industrial crisis response in 2018 are specialized in shipbuilding. While the shift from prosperity to recession since the 2010s is the main factor, each city has responded differently to the industrial crisis. The analysis, targeting seven shipbuilding cities, shows that regions where large shipyards of major corporations with high industrial competitiveness are located have relatively less decline during business fluctuations, and there is a tendency for a decrease in industrial structural diversity during prosperous periods and an increase during recessionary periods. Based on the resistance and recoverability to industrial crises, the industrial paths of shipbuilding cities are classified into four types. Considering regional industrial structure and competitiveness, it is necessary to develop customized support strategies such as maintaining and declining shipbuilding industries and fostering new alternative industries.

  • The aim of this paper is to grasp the impact of entrepreneurial activities of politician and business owner on regional industry amid the rising importance of entrepreneurship as the driver of structural change. In particular, it would help narrow the knowledge gap in empirical research by analysing the entrepreneurial spirit and motivation of the different trait of politicians and entrepreneurs that the relevant research is still insufficient. Through the case of politician' and business owner's entrepreneurship on the carbon industry growth of Jeollabuk-do and innovative start-up entering the lagging textile industry of Daegu, this study unearths the necessity of entrepreneurship, which has not been considered relatively much in the process of establishing regional industrial policies, thereby drawing the policy implication.

  • This paper attempts to review some key concepts related to the creative economy, and examines some issues on the creative economy and regional development from the perspective of economic geography. The main findings are as follows. First, as creative industries, in general, demonstrate the complex structure of value chain in which various industrial sectors are inter-connected, it tends to show that those are place-specific. Second, in policy context, creative industries are required to have four institutional conditions: hard infrastructure(physical infrastructure, skilled labor pool and related industrial sectors), social infrastructure, super-structure and policy governance. Third, as creative industries are affected by related variety than other industrial sectors, there is a strong possibility that those are concentrated in a small number of large metropolitan cities.

  • 한국리모델링협회에서는 2001년 9월 7일 부산시 크라운호텔에서 건축물 리모델링산업의 동향 및 전망에 과한 설명회를 개최하였다. 이 설명회에서는 윤영선 건설산업연구원 선임연구위원이 시장동향 및 전망에 관한 주제발표를 진행하고 이어 참가업체 및 지역 공공기관 관계자들의 토론이 이루어졌다. 부산지역의 리모델링 시장은 수도권지역과 비교할 때 시장 활성화가 1년정도 늦어진 것으로 분석되고 있어 최근 지역 업계 및 공공기관을 중심으로 시장분위기가 점차 조성되고 있다. 이날 설명회의 내용을 정리하였다.

A Study on Analysis of Maritime Industry Structure on Chungnam Province (충남지역 해양산업 구조 분석 연구)

  • Maritime industry is recognized as a new value-adding and growth engine industry. It provides high value by creating clusters centering on ports. Advanced international ports are also clashing ahead to create clusters, boost profits, and strengthen competitiveness. The Korean government enacted policies for the establishment and upbringing of maritime industrial clusters in 2015. It is very important to understand which maritime industry has a comparative advantage in each region and to establish an integration strategy through maritime industrial clusters. This study analyzes the structure of the maritime industry in the Chungnam province, which is expected to deal with raw materials(mainly oil products), container throughput, and opening of ferry route with China's port. The study analyzed the existing literature on the maritime industry and classified the industry into 5 major categories, 21 sub-categories, and 84 sub-categories in shipping and logistics, shipbuilding, fishery, marine tourism industry, and other industries. Based on the reclassified maritime industry, the structure of the maritime industry in the Chungnam province was analyzed by using location quotient(LQ) and Shift-Share analysis. The study found that the fisheries industry showed the highest value(1.718) in the analysis of LQ, followed by the marine tourism industry(1.092), shipbuilding industry(0.823) and shipping and logistics industry(0.789). The total effect of the maritime industry in Chungnam province was 36,315 and the net growth effect, excluding the national growth effect, was estimated to be 21,321. Based on these results, we classify the maritime industry in the Chungnam province as comparative advantage and comparative disadvantage. The results of this study can be used as basic data for formulating strategies for the construction of the maritime industry cluster in the Chungnam province in the future.

  • The Correlations Between the Labour Market Structure and Poverty of the Regions The main objectives of this study are to make an investigation into the spatial characteristics of poverty and to analyze the effects of regional labour market structure. Most previous studies on poverty were more likely to examine internal factors like the characteristics of poor households or family structures than external factors in terms of the regional environments. In order to achieve these goals, this study used the Small Area Estimation designed to estimate the income of each household and then calculate the poverty rate of each local area in order to examine the spatial characteristics of poverty. The poverty distribution in Korea showed the local labour market structures effect on the region poverty rate. The Korean economy now exhibits a big gap between the haves and the have-nots and between urban areas and rural areas. The poverty rate of particular regions will increase and those in the areas will face deteriorated circumstances falling into poverty traps. This study reflects this stern reality and empirically proved the strong need for consideration of regional characteristics in conducting studies on poverty and related policy amendments.
