  • As the service industry is advancing, the meaning of service innovation has been evolved. Recently, service innovation embraces all creative activities about service offering or relevant to service offerings and emphasizes the importance of customers in innovation process as a key driver. The innovation in services is often the result from a collaborative process between KIBS firms and client firms. Many researchers have pointed out about how the KIBS firms drive the innovation through service. In spite of the importance of service innovation, previous studies did not address the questions about what kinds of factors affect service innovation in KIBS firms still remain, or what are the effects of different knowledge on the innovation process. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of the interactivity that KIBS firms have with their customers on various types of innovations in KIBS firms. Interactivity has been touted to be the most important starting point for and the basis of service innovations. This study also examines the effect of knowledge types (tacit or explicit) on the relationship between interactivity and service innovation. To test the proposed hypotheses, we developed measurement items and distributed survey questionnaires to domestic companies. 230 survey questionnaires were distributed and 81 were returned among which 76 were usable. The results of this study show that interactivity may be a significant indicator of innovation within KIBS firms. It also represents that the effect of knowledge types on the relationship between interactivity and innovation. These results indicate that KIBS firms need to improve the various activities of interaction with customers for innovation. • In call centers where customers contact a firm's customer service without face-to-face interaction, customer service representatives (CSRs) determine its service competitiveness. In other words, a firm's service excellence relies on its CSRs. Drawing on the concept of agility from service and information technologies studies, this study conceptualizes customer response capability as a variable consisting of customer response expertise and customer response agility, and further verifies its effects on customer service performance. Moreover, this study examines whether a firm's digital and human knowledge resources are related to CSRs' customer response capability. To empirically test the proposed hypotheses, the partial least squares analysis is conducted with a total of 371 responses collected on CSRs from two insurance call centers. The findings indicate that a firm's digital and human knowledge resources enhance CSRs' customer response expertise and customer response agility, thereby increasing customer service performance. The results draw the conclusion that CSRs' customer response capability is a key antecedent of superior customer service.

  • In the modern management literature, knowledge has been recognized as a new strategic resource enabling a firm to create its competitiveness. Shipping companies under fierce competitive structure need to pay attentions to the utility of knowledge management. A shipping firm may develop its unique service capability by classifying, sharing, and transferring the data, information and knowledge obtained from both inside and outside its global service network. The current study attempts to analyze influential relationships between liner shipping firms' knowledge management and service capabilities. In order to achieve this goal, this study designed a knowledge chain model measuring shipping companies' knowledge management levels and tested its validity and reliability based on a total of 80 replied questionnaires from national and foreign liners. The empirical result presents that supportive and primary activities composing a knowledge chain could exert significant positive influences on the enforcement of shipping service capabilities. This research shows that the utility of knowledge management is adoptable in the maritime industry, and recommends that shipping firms should recognize strategic importance of knowledge and actively pursue knowledge management at an entire firm level.

  • The knowledge resources take a role in promoting the sustainable growth of organization. Therefore, it is important for the members of organization to acquire knowledge consistently so that the company can continue to grow. Knowledge service is the field that provides information and infrastructure which enable the members of organization to acquire new knowledge. As we recognized the importance of knowledge services, we analyzed the level of knowledge service management and development through the impact of knowledge quality on user capabilities. First, the matrix of knowledge patterns was presented based on the type of information and the level of customer interaction. According to patterns, the knowledge service was classified into three types of information providing, information analysis, and infrastructure, and then the results of structural model analysis were presented for each type. It found that the impact of knowledge service quality on user competence was different according to the type of service. The results suggested new indicators for measuring the performance of knowledge services, and provided information for reconstructing services based on the user considering the integrated operation of knowledge service and organizational designing knowledge service.
