A Study of TV Video Quality Assesment for the Adaption of Terrestrial Multi Mode Service (지상파 다채널방송의 화질평가에 관한 연구)

  • Currently, The terrestrial MMS(Multi Mode Service) is considering to be adapted in the Korea. The objective and subjective video quality test was carried out to verify the current TV channel's video quality degradation by the MMS. In the objective assessment, MMS system showed better PSNR than current system. In the subjective assesment result, It's hard to find the perceive video quality degradation at overall assesment. Even though, The MMS's video quality will be improved at the documentary and entertainment genre. Comparing with the previous research at 2006 and 2008, It's the time to give the benefit of broadcasting technology to the people.

Design of Planar Dipole Pair Antenna for Indoor Digital TV Reception (실내 디지털 TV 수신용 평면 다이폴 쌍 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for a planar dipole pair antenna for an operation in the frequency band of 470-806 MHz for terrestrial indoor digital TV (DTV) is studied. The proposed antenna is composed of two planar dipoles connected through conducting strips, and the antenna is fed by a microstrip line. By employing different lengths of dipoles, a broadband characteristics is obtained, and the antenna is size-reduced by bending both ends of the longer dipole. The effects of design parameters on the antenna performance are examined by simulation, and the parameters are adjusted for terrestrial DTV band use. A prototype of the antenna for indoor DTV reception is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $240mm{\times}139.5mm$ and tested experimentally. The experiment results show that the frequency band for a VSWR < 2 ranges 458-864 MHz(61.4%), and it corresponds fairly well with the simulated band of 448-868 MHz(63.8%).

매체별 디지털 데이터방송 규격 비교 -지상파, 위성, 케이블 중심으로-

  • 디지털 경제에서는 세계표준을 따르는 것이 선택이 아니라, 필수적인 것이다. 따라서 디지털 방송표준또한 필연적으로 준수되어져야 하는 규격인 것이다. 최근 방송환경이 매체별(지상파, 위성, 케이블)로 디지털방송으로 전환 중이거나 전환을 완료하여 서비스중에있다. 데이터방송 또한 매체별로 실험서비스 혹은 본방송이 진행중이다. 데이터방송은 디지털 방송에 양방향 서비스를 가늠하게 하는 개념으로서 국내의 지상파 데이터방송 표준 규격이 ATSC (Advanced Television Systems Committee)-DASE (DTV Application Software Environment), 위성의 경우 DVB MHP (Digital Video Broadcasting - Multimedia Home Platform), 케이블은 OpenCable-OCAP(OpenCable Common Application Platform)으로 결정되었다. 이와 같이 국내에서 채택하고있는 데이터방송 규격은 매체별로 서로다른 규격을 따르고있으며 규격 표준화 진행은 완료되었거나 진행중에 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 지상파, 위성, 케이블 데이터방송 표준동향과 매체별 데이터방송 표준 규격에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.

  • 최근 HD (High Definition) 또는 3D (Three Dimension) 이상의 고품질 방송 콘텐츠 수요가 증가하면서 디지털 방송 시스템은 실시간으로 실감형 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 발전 하였다. 특히, 세계 방송 비영리 협회 FoBTV (Future of Broadcast Television) 는 더 나아가 초 고해상도 UHD (Ultra High Definition) 급 이상의 영상을 제공하기 위해 지상파 방송과 유선 케이블 방송 시스템을 이용하여 고품질, 다시점 방송 서비스 뿐 아니라 낮은 전계 강도 환경에서 수신율을 높일 수 있는 기술방안을 논의하고 있다. 본 논문은 이와 같은 세계 방송 발전 흐름에 따라 지상파 및 케이블 방송 송수신 시스템을 구현하고 수신되는 영상의 품질을 평가하였다. 또한, 구현된 통합 시스템은 지상파로 수신되는 파일럿 신호의 크기를 분석하여 케이블로 재전송 되며 이를 통해 수신 성능의 품질을 향상시킨다.

  • This study explores the possibility of maximizing locality through synergy between local terrestrial broadcasters and cable local channels. To this end, it examines the significance of the concept of locality in the changing environment represented by the 4th Industrial Revolution. It also analyzes the existing situation of broadcasting locality and the terrain of existing studies concerning cable local channels. Based on the reviews, the study searches for the connection points between local terrestrial and cable channels, which are still heterogeneous operators. The difference in the size of broadcast region and the programming time constitutes the optimum condition. As a result of this, the study discusses the issue of appropriateness and feasibility of bundling the local terrestrial and pay-TV channels in the same legal system. By doing so, it reveals the biggest obstacle in institutionalizing the cable channel into the public category is the emotional rejection towards cable TV. In order to overcome this problem, the study suggests to abolish both the current policy guideline characterized as the same service, same regulation principle and the abolition of local business right of cable TV. It also proposes to allow news commentary function of cable local channels and strengthen cable TV's own capabilities.

  • This paper investigates audience perception on news content through comparison analysis on Comprehensive Programming Channels, TV chosun, JTBC, Channel A, and Terrestrial Broadcasting 'KBS'. How sensationalism created by video news affect audiences' credibility on news and media. The results shows that Comprehensive programming channels are assessed more sensational than terrestrial broadcasters by audience. Additionally, Comprehensive programming channels are assessed to get a lower credibility than terrestrial broadcasters by audience in the analysis of news and media credibility, comprehensive programming channels and terrestrial broadcasters. As a result, comprehensive programming channels showed lower news credibility and media credibility compared to that of the terrestrial broadcasters. This means that comprehensive programming channels must do the best not only recovering credibility from audiences but also constructing position as national broadcasting media.

Design of Compact Wideband Loop Antenna with Horizontal Slits for Terrestrial DTV and UHD TV Applications (지상파 DTV 및 UHD TV용 수평 슬릿이 추가된 소형 광대역 루프 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, the design process and method for a compact wideband loop antenna for terrestrial digital TV (DTV) and ultra high definition (UHD) TV applications was proposed. Horizontal slits were added on the two circular sectors of the proposed loop antenna in order to miniaturize the existing wideband loop antenna consisting of a square loop and two circular sectors. A CPW transmission line was inserted in the center of the lower circular sector as a feed line. The CPW feed line was designed using the 75 ohm port impedance for DTV and UHD TV applications, and a tapered center-signal line was designed to improve the impedance matching. The final designed antenna was fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a thickness of 0.8 mm. The experiment results show that the proposed compact loop antenna operates in the frequency band of 444.3-820.1 MHz for a VSWR < 2, which fully covers the DTV and UHD TV bands.
