Application of FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors to measure strain of steel roof trusses has been performed. This is to check and confirm the structural integrity of an unusually shaped, reverse shell structure made of reinforced concrete. The issue was to place sensors at proper location and compare the measured values to the results from structural analysis. It has been learned that a deliberate measurement scheme is needed in order to monitor a complex structure during construction. In this study, the measured values were within allowable range of strain, thus confirming the safety of the structure during measurement and construction.

Prediction of construction cost in the planning stage that provides basic information for feasibility study, budgeting, and planning is an important factor for successful project execution. In this study, a prediction model was developed for the purpose of improving the accuracy of estimating the construction cost of Hanok in the planning stage. The cost of this model is estimated by two methods. First, the cost of wood work, which accounts for the largest portion of the total construction cost, is estimated by calculating the approximate quantity under various conditions (structure type, roof type, plane type, etc.). Second, the cost of the rest work sections except the wood work is estimated by using the unit cost model. The predictive model was verified by two case projects, and the error rate of total construction cost was -4%(case 1) and -6%(case 2). These results showed an error rate in the range that can be applied to practice in the planning stage.
Cultivation using rain shelter is very popular in summer because rain shelter has a simple structure using less materials than any other regular greenhouse. Although it has a main advantage of easy construction in terms of labour, time and cost, it has some disadvantage of poor ventilation and rain fall inflow. Therefore, the rain shelters being able to overcome the problems, to some extent, are necessary to propagate for practical purpose. Three characteristic types of rain shelter were analyzed using measured and simulated environment data. Type 1 was a conventional type with an arched roof, and Type 2 and Type 3 were improved ones which were designed to have three arched roofs and three sawtooth like roofs with the openings for ventilation, respectively. The distribution of inside temperature measured was relatively uniform in Type 2 and 3 by the natural ventilation through the openings of the roof compared to Type 1 which had no openings. The relative light transmittance measured in Type 2 and 3 showed lower than that in Type 1, which suppressed the rise of inside temperature, For more accurate comparison, the differences between inside and outside temperatures to various wind speeds were calculated by the model. The difference in Type 1 was the greatest at lower wind speed below 1 ㎧, that is, the highest in inside temperature, but decreased rapidly as wind speed increased above 1 ㎧. Measured temperatures generally showed the same trends as calculated ones by the model. As a whole, the improved rain shelters(Type 2 and 3) showed better performance than the conventional one in ventilation as well as inside temperature.
Analysis of cable structures is complex because their force - displacement relationships are highly nonlinear and also because large deformations introduce geometric nonlinearity. Therefore, we must take account their geometric nonlinearity in the analysis and find the equilibrated shape of cable structures. In this paper, to slove these problems, numerical procedures involving geometrical nonlinearity are introduced. They are applicable to general cable net, flexible transmission lines and suspended cable roof. These procedures are divided into two parts; one is to obtain the equilibrated shapes and stresses of the cable structures with uniform load by flexibility iteration method, the other is to analyse the equilibrated structures subjected to nodal external forces by nonlinear finite element method.

Architectural evidence of Gaya is insignificant than any other area. In this situation, house-shaped earthenware is particularly helpful in the study of Gaya architecture. However, house-shaped earthenware is not a building, it has just the shape of buildings. So, we have to find out architectural evidence from that. In this paper, I tried to estimate the architectural characteristics of Gaya through house-shaped earthenware in detail. I also consulted historical records, archeological results, and other scholars' papers. The results are as follows. First, house-shaped earthenware can be classified into three types according to its shape, and each type has distinct architectural structural characteristics. Second, house-shaped earthenware generally has a gambrel roof, and the characteristic of architectural design with the gable side of the gambrel roof as a front is the biggest feature of Gaya architecture. Third, various types of buildings existed according to their functions in Gaya architecture, and house-shaped earthenware was showed buildings of ancient storage, pens, and residences, which are symbols of the richness among various types of buildings.
The present paper suggests the original form of the bell pavilion for the King Song-Dok bell which is one of the precious national treasure of Korea. In order to this, many literatures were reviewed including both historical and acoustical references. As the results, the model of the bell pavilion for the King Song-Dok bell is suggested as follows considering acoustical characteristics of the King Song-Dok bell and the traditional Korean bells ; 1) The bell pavilion has the rumbling puddle beneath the bell on the ground floor for resonance of sound 2) Many lumbers are used for columns and beams rather than boards since natural frequencies of the bell are 64 Hz and 168 Hz so that the sound absorption of the low frequency sound may not be occurred. 3) Only some boards may be used for the area between upper and middle molding of lintel in order to prevent of direct sunlight and sea breeze since this type of structure were used for bell pavilion of the same age. 4) Square form with the odd number of 3 or 5 Kans is adopted for bell pavilion considering the weight and the size of the bell which had been used traditionally 5) Finally, half-hipped structure is used for the roof of the bell pavilion which was the predominant form of the age.
This study is about the meaning of wooden brackets that are distinctive elements of wooden architecture in Korea, Japan, and China. Existing studies about wooden brackets have been limited to the boundary of formalism, so the object of this study is to make a breakthrough in the field of those studies. The Wooden brackets in this study are considered to be decorative elements, and the principles of their design are examined. The specific subject of the study is wooden architecture with Jusimpo-styled brackets that have brackets only on pillars. The definition of Jusimpo is reexamined first, and ChulMok-Ikkong which has not been regarded as a Jusimpo-styled wooden bracket is interpreted as Jusimpo-styled one in this study. Categorized into three types, Jusimpo is examined how it is expressed according to the type of the roof in a building. In view of the results, the wooden bracket system is an effective technique to express the formality, and two designing principles can be seen in Jusimpo; one that wooden brackets observed externally are standardized and regarded as the same ones, and the other that the style of wooden brackets used in the most formal building is Yi-ChulMok. These designing principles mean that the carpenter who was in charge of building the architecture had certain principles when expressing wooden brackets as well as the roofs according to the class of the architecture. In addition, although the styles of wooden brackets that were used in the most formal architecture during the Chosun period were mostly Dapo, Jusimpo in the form of Yi-ChulMok was also adopted in some temples depending on their scale, and that means Jusimpo-styled wooden brackets were never considered to be inferior to Dapo-styled ones. And this point leaves the argument that the reexamination of Jusimpo-styled wooden brackets which have been regarded as the style used in the attached building or small structures since the Choun dynasty should be conducted.

Recent spatial information technology has brought innovative improvement in both efficiency and accuracy. Especially, airborne LiDAR system(ALS) is one of the practical sensors to obtain 3D spatial information. Constructing reliable 3D spatial data infrastructure is world wide issue and most of the significant tasks involved with modeling manmade objects. This study aims to create a test data set for developing automatic building modeling methods by simulating point cloud data. The data simulates various roof types including gable, pyramid, dome, and combined polyhedron shapes. In this study, a robust bottom-up method to segment surface patches was proposed for generating building models automatically by determining model key points of the objects. The results show that building roofs composed of the segmented patches could be modeled by appropriate mathematical functions and the model key points. Thus, 3D digitizing man made objects could be automated for digital mapping purpose.

3D building modeling from airborne Lidar without model regularization may cause positional errors or topological inconsistency in building models. Regularization of 3D building models, on the other hand, restricts the types of models which can be reconstructed. To resolve these issues, this paper modelled 3D buildings from airborne Lidar by building model regularization which considers more various types of buildings. Building points are first segmented into roof planes by clustering in feature space and segmentation in object space. Then, 3D building models are reconstructed by consecutive adjustment of planes, lines, and points to satisfy parallelism, symmetry, and consistency between model components. The experimental results demonstrated that the method could make more various types of 3d building models with regularity. The effects of regularization on the positional accuracies of models were also analyzed quantitatively.
