Inhibitory Effect of Purified Bee Venom(Apis mellifera L.) on Adipogenesis in Korea (국내 양봉농가에서 채취한 정제봉독(Apis mellifera L.)의 지방세포 분화 억제 효과)

  • Bee (Apis mellifera L.) venom is used for the treatment of various human diseases due to its known anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This study investigated the effect of purified bee venom (PBV) on adipogenesis in 3T3-L1 preadipocytes. There was no cytotoxicity while cells were treated with PBV by various concentrations. In the PBV treated cells increases in fat storage were inhibited and also confirmed by oil red o staining. To understand the underlying mechanism at the molecular level were examined on the expression of the genes involved in adipogenesis by using real-time PCR. In this cell model, the mRNA level of adipogenic genes such as peroxisome-proliferator-activated receptors gamma (PPARγ) and CAAAT/enhancer binding protein alpha(C/EBPα) were decreased by PAE treatment, comparing with those of control group. Theses results suggest that PBV inhibits adipocyte differentiation in 3T3-L1 cells and can be used as an efficient natural substance to manage anti-obesity.

  • The ratio of Pedestrians in traffic accident fatality takes up 43% in Korea, which is 2.5 times as much as OECD's average. The traffic accidents features by road type shows that the fatality of the national highway posts the highest due to the accidents of pedestrians. Accordingly, the establishment of safety facilities for pedestrians is expected to increase on the rural roads for the prevention of pedestrian accidents. However, studies on pedestrians have been mainly focused on urban intersections. In Particular, studies on estimating the effectiveness of safety features for pedestrians are very poor. Thus, in this study. the Pedestrian accident probability model on four lane national highway was developed by using logit model. Also, this study analyzed and proposed the effect of facilities as a relative risk by using an odds ratio. As a result of the analysis, the Improvement of sight distance, installing sidewalks and lightings were proven effective alternatives for reducing the pedestrian accidents.

Fatty Liver Diagnostics from Medical Examination to Analyze the Accuracy Between the Abdominal Ultrasonography and Liver Hounsfield Units (건강검진에서 지방간 진단의 상복부초음파검사와 간 Hounsfield Units 측정값과의 정확성 분석)

  • In abdominal Ultrasonography, the fatty liver is diagnosed through hepatic parenchymal echo increased parenchymal density and unclear blood vessel boundary, and according to many studies, abdominal Ultrasonography has 60~90% of sensitivity and 84~95% of specificity in diagnosis of fatty liver, but the result of Ultrasonography is dependent on operators, so there can be difference among operators, and quantitative measurement of fatty infiltration is impossible. Among examinees who same day received abdominal Ultrasonography and chest computed tomography (CT), patients who were diagnosed with a fatty liver in the Ultrasonography were measured with liver Hounsfield Units (HU) of chest CT imaging to analyze the accuracy of the fatty liver diagnosis. Among 720 subject examinees, those who were diagnosed with a fatty liver through abdominal Ultrasonography by family physicians were 448, which is 62.2%. The result of Liver HU measurement in the chest CT imaging of those who were diagnosed with a fatty liver showed that 175 out of 720 had the measured value of less than 40 HU, which is 24.3%, and 173 were included to the 175 among 448 who were diagnosed through Ultrasonography, so 98.9% corresponded. This indicates that the operators' subjective ability has a great impact on diagnosis of lesion in Ultrasonography diagnosis of a fatty liver, and that in check up chest CT, under 40 HU in the measurement of Liver HU can be used for reference materials in diagnosis of a fatty liver.

  • 석회동굴의 분포는 석회암지대에 존재하기 때문에 Karst 지형의 분포와 밀접한 관계가 있다. Karst 지형은 1893년 유고슬라비아의 J.Cvijic에 의해서 Istria에서 Kotoor지역에서 최초로 보고되었다. 세계의 주요 카르스트지형의 분포지를 보면 Yugoslavia의 Karst지방 남부, France의 Causs지방, Espania의 Andalusia지방, 그 밖에 Greece와 북부 Yucatan반도, 중앙 America의 Jamaica와 Puerto Rico와 Cuba의 북부지역 그리고 북부 Great Australian Bight 부근의 해안평야, 미국의 Florida 반도의 중부와 Great Valley, Indiana 남부 Kentucky의 각지의 Tennessee 중서부, 그리고 영국의 중앙북부인 백악지방, 중국의 화남지방, Thailand, Vietnam, Burma, Celebes 남부, Java, 일본의 추길대지방과 평미대지역 등이다.(중략)

On the Chemical Analysis of Amino Acid of Yellow Corvenia (참조기의 아미노산 분리정량)

  • The contents of total amino acid and free amino acid in the protein of yellow corvenia were analysed quantitively by HPLC. The results were as follow; The contents of free amino acid of yellow corvenia flesh and yellow covenia roe were 323.0mg/100g and 932.5mg/100g, respectively. The contents of total amino acids of yellow corvenia flesh and yellow covenia roe were 33,2620.0mg/100g and 64,861.0mg/100g, respectively. The contents of essential amino acid of yellow corvenia flesh and yellow corvenia roe were 12,196.0mg/100g and 13,143.0mg/100g, respectively.
