Geographic Information Systems(GIS) are very useful for spatial analysis and policy in local government administration. Recognizing the value of GIS, Chungnam province authorities put a spur on the introduction and development of it. But they have some difficulty in this process because of technical restraint, expertise shortage and budget limit. This study has surveyed current achievement and conditions for GIS development and presented general framework and subordinate tasks to build up GIS. First of all, there are a few prior conditions to guarantee the success of GIS: First, we should set up reasonable long-term plan and follow systematic procedures according to the plan. Second, it is essential to clarify what initiatively manage to whole business and so we should make up GIS-Board as an institutional center for this job. Third, we must research how to take advantage of already existing NGIS(National Geographic Information System), so that we may eliminate redundancy of investment. We can save a lot of finance and human resources through it. Fourth, we must focus on the importance of accurate mapping by utilizing new technology like GPS(Global Positioning System). Fifth, we should arrange efficient training program to constantly produce excellent human resources for GIS.

Since the mid 1990s, in response to rapid changes in Geography subject. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been in central position in the UK geography curriculum. This paper discusses the roles of GIS for Geography subject curriculum and addresses main development within UK Geography curriculum since the 1990s, and investigates appropriate GIS curriculum that encourages teaching and learning of geography subject within the curriculum. To obtain these research purposes. this paper starts with the brief description of the Geography subject in the National Curriculum for England (1998) with the recent changes of Geography subject in the national exams (GSCE and A level) in the UK. This result represents a clear situation of Geography subject in the UK school education and also provides a new motivation that brings new challenges of information technology driven curriculum within the Geography subject. In turn, the interactive relationship of Geography and GIS within the current Geography curriculum is described by which the discussion of relevant GIS skills within Geography curriculum is followed. To propose the case studies that show the use of GIS for Geography education at school, Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 examples are discussed. Finally, this paper concludes with the issues that GIS benefits encourage geography teaching and learning and that potential applications can support not only the development of new teaching tools and learning strategies in geography education at schools, but also contribute to extend geographical skills and capabilities to collaborate with other subjects in school education in Korea.

GIS has recognized as the Social Overhead Capital to improve national competition and to heighterl the productivity of adminstration in 1990's in Korea. As the size and the scope of the NGIS policy have drastically expanded, evaluation has become a critical process. Thus NGIS driving committee has adopted the GIS project evaluation scheme in NGIS law since 2000. But the HGIS evaluation scheme is not sufficient for the comprehensive appraisal on the GIS project in the Second National GIS Master Plan (2001-2005). This research aims to explore an the improved evaluation scheme of NGIS policy.

The current system for private participation in infrastructure can be applied for geographic information system(GIS) projects. But there are some limits to promote the private sector's participation GIS projects. The purpose of the study is to explain the major causes of conflict and conflict control for private participation in geographic information system projects. First, the theoretical perspectives for private participation in geographic information system projects and conflict issues were represented. Second, this paper presents the causes of conflict and conflict control on the basis of case study. In conclusion, the policy is developed for the promotion of private participation in geographic information system projects.

For a long time, the ocean was regarded as unknown area ruled by god, consequently, not so much things were developed in scientific methods and activities. Despite a rapid development of geographic information systems(GIS) marine and ocean fields still remained in the scope of traditional tools and intuitive experiences by the late of 1990. However, land based concepts and technology models require additional customization to apply GIS effectively in marine domains, which are resulted from her dynamic, complex and seamless massive nature. This paper gives a brief review of marine spatial data characteristics and also presents strategic approaches to meet the unique marine GIS requirements.

Importance of forest recreation in the Korean forestry situation has recently been increased and will be even more rapidly in the future. For efficient planning and development for the national scale, computer aided information techniques are urgently needed. Geographic information system(GIS) has been proven to organize and analyze data from various sources for large geographical areas. Unlike conventional data base management system (DBMS), GIS can handle spatially referenced data and, thus, can be a good candidate for recreation planning support system. This paper introduces the concept and components of GIS and illustrates examples of GIS applications. A possibility of system integration with other data sources is also suggested.

최근 GIS 정보의 효율적인 관리에 대한 필요성이 강조되면서, 정보 기술을 활용한 지리공간정보의 체계적 관리의 필요성이 증가되고 있고 이에 따라, 건설교통부ㆍ정보통신부 등 관련 부처별로 국가 지리공간정보 유통체계를 구축하게 되었다. 그러나, 대상 지리공간정보의 특성에 따라 집중형 및 분산형의 공간정보유통체계가 개별적으로 구축되어 있어 유통체계의 혼란을 야기하게 되었다. 본 연구에서는 집중형 및 분산형 유통체계의 특성에 대해 살펴보고, 유통체계의 통합을 위한 방안을 제시하였다.

In this study, for the application of land resource evaluation using GIS map overlay method, I have considered about the process that can draw out right results from the problems involving multiple hierarchical indicators and weights. The assumption of this research is that there are two processes in the application of analytic hierarchy process(AHP) and the different results will appear. The two processes are as follows; (1) calculate directly the comprehensive weights to the indicators and overlay the layers(Method I) and (2) repeat the process of map overlay and standardization(Method II). The two precesses are applied on the study site based on the envirosystem in Bong-Hwa, and then some differences were found in the results and it was suggested that the Method II is more reasonable.
