LONG-TERM PREDICTION OF SATELLITE ORBIT USING ANALYTICAL METHOD (해석적 방법에 의한 장기 위성궤도 예측)

  • A long-term prediction algorithm of geostationary orbit was developed using the analytical method. The perturbation force models include geopotential upto fifth order and degree and luni-solar gravitation, and solar radiation pressure. All of the perturbation effects were analyzed by secular variations, short-period variations, and long-period variations for equinoctial elements such as the semi-major axis, eccentricity vector, inclination vector, and mean longitude of the satellite. Result of the analytical orbit propagator was compared with that of the cowell orbit propagator for the KOREASAT. The comparison indicated that the analytical solution could predict the semi-major axis with an accuracy of better than $pm35$ meters over a period of 3 month.

Evaluation of the new Earth Gravity Models with GPS-leveling data in South Korea (최신 지구중력장모델(EGMs)의 남한지역 적용 평가)

  • The new gravity field combination models are expected to improve the knowledge of the Earth's global gravity field. This study evaluates eleven global gravity field models derived from gravimetry and altimetry surface data in a comparison with ground truth in South Korea. Geoid heights obtained from GPS and levelling in South Korea are compared with geoid heights from the models. The results show that the gravity satellites CHAMP, GRACE and LAGEOS plus gravimetry and altimetry surface data have led to an improvement in gravity field models. As expected, the new combination gravity field model which are EIGEN-CG03C and EIGEN-GL04C give better results than the predecessors widely used models(EGM96, OSU91A etc.).

  • Gravity field analysis and density modeling were performed to evaluate the internal state of the rock mass, which is the cause of cut slope collapse. The shape of the weathered zone and the depth of basement could be confirmed from the complete Bouguer anomaly and density model. The basement depth at the center of the cut slope calculated using the Euler deconvolution inverse method is 30 m, which is about 10 m deeper than the surrounding area. In addition, the depth of basement and the thickness of the weathered zone are similar to the boundary between low resistivity and high resistivity in dipole-dipole survey. From the study results, gravity field analysis and density modeling recognizes the internal state of the rock slope and can be used for slope safety analysis, and is particularly suitable as a method to determine the shape of weathered zones in interpreting the safety of cut slopes

  • In this paper, the dynamic model development for interplanetary navigation has been discussed. The Cowell method for special perturbation theories was employed to develop an interplanetary trajectory propagator including the perturbations due to geopotential, the Earth's dynamic polar motion, the gravity of the Sun, the Moon and the other planets in the solar system, the relativistic effect of the Sun, solar radiation pressure, and atmospheric drag. The equations of motion in dynamic model were numerically integrated using Adams-Cowell 11th order predictor-corrector method. To compare the influences of each perturbation, trajectory propagation was performed using initial transfer orbit elements of the Mars Express mission launched in 2003, because it can be the criterion to choose proper perturbation models for navigation upon required accuracy. To investigate the performance of dynamic model developed, it was tested whether the spacecraft can reach the Mars. The interplanetary navigation tool developed in this study demonstrated the spacecraft entering the Mars SOI(Sphere of Influence) and its velocity .elative to the Mars was less than the escape velocity of the Mars, hence, the spacecraft can arrive at the target planet. The obtained results were also verified by using the AGI Satellite Tool Kit. It is concluded that the developed program is suitable for supporting interplanetary spacecraft mission for a future Korean Mars mission.

  • The conceptual design lunar lander demonstrator has been developed to use as a test bed for advanced spacecraft technologies and to test a prototype planetary lander capable of vertical takeoff and landing. Size of the lunar lander demonstrator is the same as that of lunar lander conceptually designed, however, the weight of lunar lander demonstrator is designed in 1/6 scale in consideration of gravity difference between moon and earth. The thruster clustering and virtual flight test were performed in the demonstrator fixed on the ground. The demonstrator ground test has been conducted for two months in the test site for the solid motor combustion of the Goheung Flight Center. The purposes of ground test of demonstrator are to demonstrate and verify essential electronics, propulsion system, control algorithm, embedded software, structure and system operation technologies before developing the flight model lander.   • Attitude determination algorithms for aircraft and land vehicles use earth gravitational vector and geomagnetic vector; hence, magnetometers and accelerometers are employed. In dynamic situation, the output from accelerometers includes not only gravitational vector but also motional acceleration, thus it is hard to determine accurate attitude. The acceleration compensation method treated in this paper solves the problem to compensate the specific force vector for motional acceleration calculated by a GPS receiver. This paper analyzed the error from the corrected vector regarded as a constant by conventional acceleration compensation method, and improve the error by rederivation from measurements. The analyzed error factors and improvements by the proposed algorithm are verified by computer simulations.

  • This paper deals with the estimation of geostrophic current using the sea surface topography calculated from the geoidal height from EGM96 geopotential model and the mean sea surface height from CLS_SHOM mean sea surface model. The CLS_SHOM model was developed using the altimetry data set. The estimation of geostrophic current is available in the characteristic research of ocean in many country, while for East Sea a few studies were done. The goal of this study is basically to provide the characteristics of geostrophic current in East Sea. The results show that the mean sea surface topography (SST) in East Sea is about 0.37 m and the mean geostrophic velocity is -0.028 m/sec. The Pacific water enters into the East Sea through the Korea Strait and after passing the strait, this inflow splits into two branches: one flows northward along the Korean coast and another outflows into Pacific ocean through Tsugaru and Soya strait passing the east-northeastward along the Japanese outer shelf, and outflows into Okhotsk ocean.

A Study on the Application of GPS for Computation of the Vertical Deflection and Astro-coordinates (연직선편차와 천문좌표 산정을 위한 GPS의 적용연구)

  • Conventional procedures to determine vertical deflections and astronomical coordinates require the stellar observations which be under restraints of clear night-time weather conditions, surrounding environment, long observation time and the use of instruments, etc. Therefore the more effective observation method subjugatting these problems has requested. The objective of this study is to propose method to compute vertical deflections, astronomical coordinates(latitude and longitude), and astronomical azimuth by mixing GPS observation results and orthometric heights. For this study, programmed the program which able to obtain the change in geoid undulation by using the GPS- determined geodetic height difference and the orthometric height difference, and GPS satellite surveying was performed at both ten points of astronomical points and four triangulation points around each astronomical station in South Korea. The Astronomical results determined from GPS observations compared to those determined from both conventional astronomical measurements and the recent earth gravitational Model(EGM96).

  • The calculation of astronomic latitude and longitude have been carried by astrolabe, theodolite. Conventional procedures to determine it require clear weather conditions, time high cost. So we need more effective method to decide them. The objective here is to present method to computate astronomic latitude and longitude by mixing GPS observation result and geodetic height. Also to decide geodetic height we used GPS/leveling, DMA(n=m=180) and OSU91A(n=m=360) methods. Compared to conventional procedures we could obtain astronomic latitude and longitude using GPS by $1{\sim}3'$ difference. If the precise geoid model of Korea will be developed, we can compute astronomic latitude and longitude effectively using GPS observation only.

Determination and Analysis Sea Surface Topography for Unification Vertical Datum in East-Asia Area (동아시아지역 수직기준 통일을 위한 해면지형 결정 및 분석)

  • The SSTop (Sea Surface Topography) provides an estimate of the large scale structure of the deviations between the geoid height and the mean sea surface in terms of a normalized surface spherical harmonic series. The SSTop is the key information which has been used to determine the shape of earth, geoid, current and tide etc. Also, the SSTop is a basic source for the unification of vertical datums at the different height systems which were established according to the their respective purposes. In order to unify the vertical datum around the East-Asian (E-A) region (covers the area: $20^{\circ}-45^{\circ}N$ and $110^{\circ}-140^{\circ}E$), we estimated the value of SSTop in the E-A region using the predicted values of mean sea surface (from KMSS04) and geoid height (from EGM96 and EIGEN-GL04C) and analyzed to aspect of SSTop at 5 tidal stations (InCheon, JeJu, QingDao, Aburatsubo, KeeLung) with the estimated values of each station previously. The result from this study indicates that the SSTop in the E-A region is relatively stable except for the area around the Japanese and Ryukyu deep, and also shows that the distribution of values of SSTop is ranged from 40 to 60 cm at tidal stations except InCheon station.
