Experimental Study on the Performance of Refrigeration Cycle for various RPM of Inverter Scroll Compressor (전동 스크롤압축기의 운전rpm에 따른 냉동사이클의 성능에 대한 실험적 연구)

  • An experimental study was performed estimating COP(Coefficient of Performance) of air-conditioning cycle with inverter scroll compressor. All experiments were done for various compressor speeds from 1000~4000 rpm and used the inverter controller called CANDy to change the compressor rpm. The air-conditioning cycle components in the apparatus were used as same with components of YF hybrid car. To estimate the COP, this study measured the temperature and pressure at inlets and outlets of compressor, condenser, and evaporator. And also measured the compressor input power using Powermeter. Through the experiments, the maximum error to estimate COP was shown about ${\pm}6.09%$ at 3500rpm. This study revealed that the condenser temperature and pressure were increased and the evaporator temperature and pressure were decreased with the increased compressor speed. And also, the COP was decreased with increased compressor speed. Those results can be used the basic and fundamental data to design the air-conditioning cycle with inverter scroll compressor.

Analysis of Vapor Compression Refrigeration Cycle Performance Depending on Different Joining Method of Non-adiabatic Capillary Tube (비단열 모세관 접합방법이 증기압축식 냉동사이클 성능에 미치는 영향 해석)

  • Refrigeration systems can be incorporated with non-adiabatic capillary tubes to improve their efficiency. The non-adiabatic capillary tube is constructed by joining the capillary tube with suction pipe to allow heat transfer between them, which is called capillary tube-suction line heat exchanger(SLHX). There are various joining methods and they may influence the characteristics of the refrigeration cycle. The present work aims to analyze the effect of widely-used two joining methods on the refrigeration cycle. The results show that soldered SLHX has much less thermal resistance than tapered SLHX but slightly outperforms in terms of coefficient of performance(COP) and cooling capacity. The soldered SLHX increased COP and cooling capacity of a refrigerator by 5.09% and 14.77% while the tapered SLHX did by 5.05% and 14.75%, respectively.

The Design of a Linear Compressor Based on the Resonance Characteristics for the Air Conditioner (공진특성을 고려한 냉동/공조용 횡자속 선형압축기의 설계)

  • The compressors in the air conditioner have the role of the pressurization and circulation of the refrigerant. The hermetic reciprocating compressors driven by rotary motor have been used for the air conditioner. The linear compressor has very simple structure and enhancement in the efficiency in comparison to that of conventional reciprocating compressor. The linear compressors are widely used for the small cryogenic refrigerator (below 1 kW), such as the Stirling refrigerator and pulse tube refrigerator. In the cryogenic application, the pressure ratio of the linear compressor is below 1.5, but the linear compressor for the air conditioner should overcome the high pressure ratio and the large pressure difference between the each sides of the piston. The resonance characteristics of the linear compressor has the significant impacts on the power consumption. To minimize the power consumption, the linear compressor should be operated at the resonance point. In the resonance characteristics, the role of the mechanical and gas spring should be considered. In present study, the cycle of the analysis of the vapor compression refrigeration cycle with the different refrigerants (R134a, R4l0a, R600a) and the designs of the linear compressor are performed. The effects of the stiffness of the mechanical spring on the electromagnetic forces would be discussed. Finally, the results show the design specification of the linear compressor for the air conditioner.

Development of cascade refrigeration system using R744 and R404A - Prediction and comparison on maximum COP(Coefficient of Performance) - (R744-R404A용 캐스케이드 냉동시스템 개발에 관한 연구(2) - 최대 성능계수에 관한 예측과 비교 -)

  • In this paper, prediction and comparison on COP(coefficient of performance) of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system are presented to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of the system. The operating parameters considered in this study include subcooling and superheating degree, compressor efficiency, and condensing and evaporating temperature in the R404A high- and R744 low-temperature cycle, respectively. The main results were summarized as follows : The prediction for performance of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system have been proposed through multiple regression analysis and compared with other researcher's correlations. As a result, prediction proposed in the study shows disagreement with existing equations. Therefore, it is necessary to propose the more accurate correlation predicting the COP of R744-R404A cascade refrigeration system through an addition experiments.

  • This paper discusses the thermodynamic study on the suction cooling-steam injected gas turbine cycle. The aim of this study is to improve the thermal efficiency and the specific output by steam injection produced by the waste heat from the waste heat recovery boiler and by cooling compressor inlet air by an ammonia absorption-type suction cooling system. The operating region of this newly devised cycle depends upon the pinch point limit and the outlet temperature of refrigerator. The higher steam injection ratio and the lower the evaporating temperature of refrigerant allow the higher thermal efficiency and the specific output. The optimum pressure ratios and the steam injection ratios for the maximum thermal efficiency and the specific output can be found. It is evident that this cycle considered as one of the most effective methods which can obtain the higher thermal efficiency and the specific output comparing with the conventional simple cycle and steam injected gas turbine cycle.

  • In this paper, three kinds of studies have been completed to obtain highly purified carbon dioxide having more than 7N purity as an electronic grade quality. PRO/II with PROVISION release January 2023 from AVEVA company was used, and Peng-Robinson equation of the state model with Twu's alpha function was selected for the modeling of the cryogenic distillation process. When using LN2 cold heat, we can obtain highest recovery of carbon dioxide as a bottom product for a cryogenic distillation column.

Investigation on the Performance of Special Purpose Automotive Air-Conditioning System Using Dual Refrigeration Cycle (듀얼 냉동사이클을 이용하는 특수목적 자동차용 에어컨 시스템의 냉방성능에 관한 연구)

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the cooling performance of an air-conditioning system for a special purpose vehicle under tropical and severe weather conditions. In order to evaluate and compare the cooling performances, the dual refrigeration cycle using R-134a was tested on a special purpose vehicle with various refrigerant charge amounts and indoor temperatures. The cycle was tested considering indoor cooling speed and compression ratio (discharge pressure), and was optimized at the refrigerant charge amount of 1.5 kg and outdoor temperature of $40.0^{\circ}C$. The time to reach indoor temperature of $15.0^{\circ}C$ increased by 86.5% and 38.1%, at the indoor temperatures from $25.0^{\circ}C$ to $32.5^{\circ}C$ and from $32.5^{\circ}C$ to $40.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, with the increase in indoor temperature from $25.0^{\circ}C$ to $40.0^{\circ}C$, the cooling capacity increased by 7.3%, from 19.1 kW to 20.5 kW, but decreased by 7.0% from 4.67 to 5.1.

Performance analysis for load control of R744(carbon dioxide) transcritical refrigeration system using hot gas by-pass valve (핫가스 바이패스 밸브를 이용한 R744용 초임계 냉동사이클의 부하제어에 대한 성능 분석)

  • The automatic hot gas by-pass technique is applied to control the capacity of refrigeration and air-conditioning system when operating at part load. In the scheme, the hot gas from the compressor is extracted and injected into the outlet of an evaporator through a hot gas by-pass valve. Thus, In this paper, the hot gas by-pass scheme for CO2 is discussed and analyzed on the basis of mass and energy conservation law. A comparative study of the schemes is performed in terms of the coefficiency of performance (COP) and cooling capacity. The operating parameters considered in this study include compressor efficiency, superheating degree, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature in the R744 vapor compression cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : the superheating degree, outlet temperature and evaporating temperature of R744 vapor compression refrigeration system have an effect on the cooling capacity and COP of this system. With a thorough grasp of these effect, it is necessary to design the compression refrigeration cycle using R744.

A Study on the Experimental Measurements and Its Recovery for the Rate of Boil-Off Gas from the Storage Tank of the CO2 Transport Ship (CO2 수송선 저장탱크의 BOG 측정 실험 및 회수에 관한 연구)

  • $CO_2$ is generated by the combustion reaction, when getting the energy from fossil fuel. If the carbon dioxide emissions increases more, the global warming problem will become more serious. CCS (carbon capture storage) needs to be developed for the prevention of this. When liquefied $CO_2$ is transported, BOG (boil-off gas) is generated because of several problems. In the study, by injecting liquefied $CO_2$ in two tanks which contains $40m^3$each, the amount of BOG and its composition were measured during 30 days when generating pressure changes and external heat, loading, unloading. In result, 16,040 kg of BOG was generated and the composition has been found out to be 99.95% $CO_2$ and 0.05 % $N_2$. Also, we conducted simulation process for reliquefaction of generated BOG with vapor compression cycle using the PRO/II with PROVISION version 9.2. As a result, the refrigeration cycle of the total circulation flow rate was 42.07 kg/h and the condenser utility consumption was 48.85 kg/h.

The operating parameters considered in this study include superheating degree, compressor efficiency, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature in the carbon dioxide two-stage refrigeration cycle. The main results were summarized as follows : The cooling capacity of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, compressor efficiency and gas cooling pressure, but decreases with the increasing mass flowrate ratio and evaporating temperature. The compression work of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing superheating degree, outlet temperature of gas cooler, gas cooling pressure and evaporating temperature, but decreases with the increasing compressor efficiency and mass flowrate ratio. The COP of two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system increases with the increasing compressor efficiency, but decreases with the increasing superheating degree, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio and evaporating temperature. Therefore, superheating degree, compressor efficiency, gas cooling pressure, mass flowrate ratio, outlet temperature of gas cooler and evaporating temperature of R744($CO_2$) two-stage compression and one-stage expansion refrigeration system have an effect on the cooling capacity, compressor work and COP of this system.
