The Effect of Cash Holdings and Corporate Governance on Firm's Internationalization - Using Panel Data Analysis - (현금보유와 지배구조가 기업의 국제화에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of cash holdings on internationalization of listed manufacturing firms. We explore moderating effect of managerial ownership between cash holdings and internationalization of firms. We analysed cross-sectional data of 645 listed companies from 2000 to 2013 using the fixed effects estimation. Empirical results showed that the there was a positive significant relation between cash holdings and internationalization of firms This study also found that managerial ownership have a significant negative moderating effects in the pathway between cash holdings and internationalization Cash liquidities can be rapidly induced internationalization. Managerial ownership increase agency cost, therefore, it might have a negative effects on internationalization These results suggest that agency cost with cash holdings is very important for cash management.

  • Venture debt is a prominent funding tool to promote scale-up of ventures. In the growth stage, venture firms that need large-scale funding can accelerate their growth by leveraging venture debt without diluting their shares, while venture capitals can quickly recollect their investments by accelerating the growth of the ventures they invest. By supplying venture debt, banks can diversify their asset primarily concentrated on loans, and improve the return on assets. As in the case of Silicon Valley Bank, a leading venture lender, closer cooperation between the two agents is essential to supply venture debt. One is the venture capital, an equity capital supplier, and the other is the bank, a debt capital supplier. To this end, we propose "credit risk sharing venture loans" and "venture loan pooling". The former encourages banks' participation in the venture debt market where the manager of Korean Fund of Funds, KVIC and policy guarantee schemes such as KODIT and KIBO screen or partially absorbe the risks inherent in venture loans. The latter reduces the burden of banking on individual venture loans through securitization.

Prediction of Stock Returns from News Article's Recommended Stocks Using XGBoost and LightGBM Models

  • This study examines the relationship between the release of the news and the individual stock returns. Investors utilize a variety of information sources to maximize stock returns when establishing investment strategies. News companies publish their articles based on stock recommendation reports of analysts, enhancing the reliability of the information. Defining release of a stock-recommendation news article as an event, we examine its economic impacts and propose a binary classification model that predicts the stock return 10 days after the event. XGBoost and LightGBM models are applied for the study with accuracy of 75%, 71% respectively. In addition, after categorizing the recommended stocks based on the listed market(KOSPI/KOSDAQ) and market capitalization(Big/Small), this study verifies difference in the accuracy of models across four sub-datasets. Finally, by conducting SHAP(Shapley Additive exPlanations) analysis, we identify the key variables in each model, reinforcing the interpretability of models.

  • Today, communication trend of financial brand has changed fast with more foreign financial brand's introduction, emerging financial brands through the openness. With the trend of changing, companies are introducing various marketing methods to differentiate its brand image. And color marketing becomes an important tool for the differentiation. However, except a few brands, brand color which expresses management character of a company is different from the customer's preferred color which is based on investors' investment tendency. This may be related to the brand Image which is final goal of communication. Therefore, this study suggests effective communication method between company and customers by analyzing preferred color of customers by their investment tendency and comparison analysis security firms' color marketing strategy. As a result, it was found that Roland Barthes symbolic meaning of colors is different from the symbolic meaning of the groups of investor tendency. For example, I assumed that aggressive investors preferred strong color like red or orange, but the survey result was far from my assumption. I hope this study can be a good foundation for logical and scientific marketing in communication between security companies and customers in more open market with introduction to the Capital Market Consolidation Act.

Conditional Quantile Regression Analyses on the Research & Development Expenses for KOSPI-listed Firms in the Post-era of the Global Financial Turmoil (국제 금융위기 이후 국내 유가증권시장 상장기업들의 연구개발비에 대한 분위회귀분석 연구)

  • The study addresses the analysis on the financial determinants of corporate research and development (R&D) expenditure in finance. Overall level of R&D spending was estimated as one of the top-tier on a global basis and a majority of the expenditure was invested by large domestic firms in private sector. Consequently, financial factors that influence R&D intensity were empirically tested in the first hypothesis by using conditional quantile regression model for firms listed in KOSPI stock market in the post-era of the global financial turmoil. Firms in the groups of high- and low-R&D intensity were statistically compared to detect financial differences in the second hypothesis which was accompanied by the test of multi-logit model that included firms without R&D outlay. Concerning the results of the hypothesis tests, R&D spending of the prior fiscal year, firm size, business risk and advertising expense overall showed statistically significant impacts to determine the level. As an extended study of [1] that had examined financial factors of R&D intensity at the macro-level, the results of the present study are anticipated to contribute to maximizing shareholders' wealth in advance or emerging capital markets, when applied to find an optimal level of R&D expenditure.

A Study on the Rejection Capability based on Utterance Verification for Speech Recognition (발화 검증에 의한 음성인식 거절기능 연구)

  • 본 논문에서는 단어독립 음성인식 시스템을 위한 음성인식 거절(rejection)기능에 대해 기술한다. 음성인식 거절 기능은 음성인식기를 제작할 때 정해놓은 인식대상 단어 이외의 단어가 입력되었을 때 그 단어가 인식할 수 없는 단어임을 알려주는 기능이다. 본 연구에서는 단어독립 음성인식 시스템에 적용될 수 있는 발화 검증 방식에 의해 음성인식 거절 기능을 구현하였다. 특히 유사도를 결정함에 있어서 산술평균, 기하평균, 조화평균을 사용하고 각각을 비교하여, 기하 평균을 사용하는 방식이 우수한 성능을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 음성의 신뢰도(confidence score)를 정규화하기 위해서 Sigmoid 함수를 사용하는데 이 함수의 가중치(weight) 상수의 변화에 대해 인식률을 비교함으로써 가장 적절한 가중치 상수값을 결정하였다. 음성인식 테스트 결과에서는 신뢰도 임계치 값을 구하고 이 값을 사용하여 인식률을 계산하였으며, 거절의 오류까지 포함된 음성인식률은 약 76%였다. 이 연구결과는 현재 한국통신에서 시험 서비스 중인 음성인식 증권정보 안내 시스템에 적용될 예정이다.

Loyalty of On-line Stock Trading Customers (온라인 증권거래 고객의 충성도)

  • Securities companies which faced with severe competition should not only attract new customers but also retain their on-line customers. This study examines the factors affecting loyalty of on-line stock trading customers. The research model based on the previous studies was established and the research hypotheses were generated. The test results based on the data gathered from 87 users of on-line stock trading services show that user satisfaction, learning cost, transaction fees, and reputation influence customer loyalty. User satisfaction, learning cost and reputation are positively related to customer loyalty, whereas transaction fee is negatively related to customer loyalty. The results also support that information quality and system quality are positively related to user satisfaction. The hypothesis that transaction fee is related to user satisfaction is not supported. There is no significant information to say that security risk is related to user satisfaction. It is considered that the study results may help managers to increase customer retention.

  • 본 논문에서는 MLP(master limited partnership) 분리(分離)라는 기업구조(企業構造) 개편(改編)(restructing)이 기업의 시장가치에 미치는 영향을 사건연구(事件硏究)(event study) 방법론을 통하여 분석하였다. 실증분석의 결과 MLP 분리(分離)로 인한 모기업의 주가상승이 통계적으로 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 세금혜택(稅金惠澤), 대리인(代理人) 문제(間題), 자금조달(資金調達) 그리고 자산증권화(資産證券化)(securitization) 둥의 측면에서 MLP 분리(分離)의 경제적 의미를 살펴보았다. 경영자에 의한 자유현금(自由現金)흐름(free cashflow)남용의 방지를 통한 대리인(代理人) 비용(費用)(agency cost)의 감소, 정보불균형(情報不均衡)에 관련된 자금조달상의 불이익의 극복가능성이 모기업의 주가상승을 가져올 수 있는 보다 중요한 요인들로 제시되었다. 이러한 요인들의 상대적 중요성에 대한 실증분석 특히 자유현금흐름 가설의 검증이 앞으로의 과제다.

주식가치와 기업지배구조간의 상호관련성에 관한 실증연구

  • 우리나라의 상장기업 중 CGI의 산업별 분석결과 강력한 감독기관의 감독과 규제를 받는 금융업의 지배구조가 가장 높은 점수를 얻었으나, 전통적인 제조업이나 어업광업 등의 업종은 낮은 점수를 얻어 지배구조의 개선이 요구된다. 주식시장에서 신호효과(Signaling effect)에 대한 검증결과, 지배구조 우수기업의 발표가 분명히 시장에서 해당기업에게 호재로 작용했음이 분명한데도 불구하고, 주식수익률이 발표일 전후를 기준으로 유의한 차이가 없으므로 기업지배구조에 따른 기업가치는 시장에서 이미 인지되어 주가에 반영되고 있다는 결론을 도출할 수 있다. 이러한 연구는 우리나라에서 아직 부족한 기업지배구조 연구에 있어 새로운 시도로서 증권시장에서 장기투자를 하는 투자자들에게 지배구조가 하나의 투자지표로서 유용한 도구임을 보임과 동시에 지배구조의 개선은 기업의 입장에서도 기업 가치향상과 주주부의 극대화의 방법으로 타당함을 밝히기 위한 것이다.
