An Armor Piercing Fin Stabilized Discarding Sabot (APFSDS), which penetrates and sabotages the target by physical energy, consists of a general penetrator using Depleted Uranium (DU) or Tungsten Heavy Alloy (THA) but THA is preferable because of manufacturing and environmental issues. On a THA penetrator, the penetration performance is determined mainly by self-sharpening depending on the hardness and toughness of materials. In particular, the tensile strength and impact strength work as key factors. The correlation coefficient for the penetration performance of the tensile strength was 0.721 and the impact strength was -0.599. The improved penetration performance by additional heat treatment was proven experimentally. Therefore, maintaining elongation over 9 % and tensile strength over 123 kg/㎟ is desirable, and the impact strength should be less than 6.8 kg·m/㎠ for good penetration performance.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the polymerization ability of resin-based materials used for teeth splinting according to the thickness of cure. Materials and Methods: For this study, the Light-Fix and G-FIX developed for resinous splinting materials and the G-aenial Universal Flo, the high-flowable composite resin available as restorative and splinting material, were used. Ten specimens of the thickness of 2, 3, 4 and 5 mm and 5 mm in diameter for each composite resin (total 120) were prepared. The microhardness of top and bottom surfaces for each specimen was measured by the Vickers hardness testing machine. The polymerization ability of the composite resin for each thickness was statistically analyzed using independent T-test at a 0.05 level of significance. Results: There was no difference of polymerization ability regardless of the thickness in the Light-Fix and G-FIX. The G-aenial Universal Flo showed significantly low polymerization ability from the thickness of the 3 mm (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The Light-Fix and G-FIX, which are resin-based materials used for teeth splinting, are expected to be suitable for light curing up to 5 mm in thickness.

The purpose of study was to compare the plasma arc light with the halogen light in compostie resin curing. Three composite resin materials(Z-100, 3M, USA; Tetric Ceram, Vivadent, Liechtenstein; SureFil, Dentsply, USA) were filled in the teflon molds (4mm in diameter and 2, 3, 4, 5mm in thickness) and cured with either the conventional low-intensity light curing unit with a halogen lamp (Optilux 360, Demetron, U.S.A.) for duration of 40 seconds or with the high-intensity light curing unit with a plasma arc lamp (Flipo, Lokki, France) for duration of 3, 6, and 9 seconds. The intensity of halogen light was about $370mW/cm^2$ and that of plasma light was about $1,900mW/cm^2$. After one week, the surface hardnesses of both the top and the bottom of the resin samples were measured with a microhardness tester(MXT70, Matsuzawa, Japan). There were significant differences in the hardness between the top and the bottom of the resin samples except the 2mm thickness samples cured by halogen light for 40s or by plasma light for 9s. There was no significant difference between the hardness values of the top surfaces of the thickness groups. The hardness values of the bottom surfaces decreased as the curing time decreased and as the thickness of resin samples increased, and the three kinds of resin composites showed similar patterns. The results suggest that the halogen light for 40 seconds might be able to cure greater depth of resin composites than the plasma light for 3, 6, or 9 seconds.

This study was to evaluate the effects of several light curing units on the microleakage of composite resin restorations in primary teeth. The types of curing units were traditional low intensity halogen light(Optilux 360), plasma arc light(Filpo) low heat plasma arc light(Aurys) and high intensity LED(Freelight 2). After preparing cavities on sound primary teeth, cavities were filled with composite resin(Z100) using the same resin bond agent(Scotchbond Multi-Purpose) and were cured with each curing light system. After storing each specimen in sterile water for 24 hours, thermal circulation was done 1,000 times followed by pigmentation using 2% methylene blue solution. Each specimen was sliced and the degree of pigmentation was graded. When microleakage is graded, the average of Aurys was 0.95 which was the lowest and Freelight 2(1.05), Filpo(1.25), Optilux 360(1.30) followed. But values were not shown statistically significant difference (P>0.05). The results suggest that the newly developed curing units which has advantage in children by decreasing discomfort and procedure time can increase the microleakage of the composite resin.

The purpose of this study was to compare the light transmitting ability of halogen light in different colors and thicknesses. A1, A2, A3 colors of Z-250 composite resin(3M ESPE, St. Paul, U.S.A.) were used. Degree of conversion of separated resin specimens under the 2, 3, 4mm thickness resin were measured by FTIR spectroscopy. The result shows that decrease of degree of conversion by increase of resin thickness and decrease of degree of conversion by decrease of lightness of color. Within the limitation of results, it is recommended to use more light color of composite resin in small thickness to improve degree of conversion when use halogen light.

It is well known that numerous factors influence the light output of curing units, but many dentists are un aware that the output of their curing lights are inadequate. This study was conducted to evaluate the light in tensity of visible-light curing units in some private dental clinics and hospital dental clinics. In order to determine the maximum light intensity of the curing units, lamps, filters and fiber optic bundles, they were replaced with new ones and light intensity was remeasured. Light intensity was measured by employing a digital radiometer (EFOS model #8000, USA). Light intensity ranged in $29\sim866mW/cm^2$ (below $150mW/cm^2$ ; 17.8%, $150\sim300mW/cm^2$ : 46.6%, above $300mW/cm^2$ ; 35.6%). The replacement of the components increased the light intensity, with maximum increases of 94.8% for lamps, 82.3% for filters, 200.8% for fiber optics and 361.5% for all three parts. According to the manufacturer of radiometer, curing light is considered as unsuitable for use with a reading of above $300mW/cm^2$ by the radiometer. Applying these criteria to the present study, 64.4% of the curing units required repair or replacement. The results of this study indicated that the light intensities of the curing units used in dental practice were lower than optimum level.

Recently, new light curing unit utilizing the plasma xenon arc lamp is introduced. This curing unit is operated at relatively high intensity, so shortening the curing time significantly. The aim of this experiment was to estimate curing capability of plasma xenon arc lamp curing unit compared to traditional halogen lamp curing unit. Degree of conversion was evaluated by Raman spectroscopy after irradiation of specimens with halogen lamp curing unit(Optilux 150, Demetron, USA) for 20s, 40s, 60s and plasma xenon arc lamp curing unit(flipo, Lokki, France) for 2s, 3s, 6s. The results showed that strong light intensity of plasma xenon arc lamp curing unit did not compensate for short exposure time completely. So, Multi-layered curing within 2mm thickness and additional exposure time is recommanded when light-cured composite resin is polymerized with plasma xenon arc lamp curing unit.

The purpose of this study was to compare curing efficiency of newly developed curing units to traditional halogen curing unit by measuring thermal change and surface microhardness according to curing light system. Materials and mathods : The types of curing units were traditional low intensity halogen light(Optilux 360), plasma arc light(Flipo), low heat plasma arc light(Aurys), low intensity LED(Starlight), and high intensity LED(Freelight2). Temperature at the tip of light guide was measured by a digital thermometer using K-type thermocouple. And after resin was filled to 2, 3, 4mm teflon mold, bottom temperature measured during curing. After 24 hours, microhardness of top surface and bottom surface of each resin specimen were measured. Results : The result of this study can be summarized as follows, 1. As measuring temperature of curing unit tips, Flipo is the highest as $52.4^{\circ}C,\;Freelight2(37.86^{\circ}C),\;Optilux360(32.68^{\circ}C),\;Aurys(32.34^{\circ}C),\;and\;Starlight(26.14^{\circ}C)$ were followed. 2. Flipo and Freelight2 were the highest similarly and Optilux360 and Aurys were similarly next and Starlight was lowest in temperature of bottom surface of resin mold. 3. Microhardness of top surface were generally similar, and Aurys was relatively low. 4. Optilux 360 and Freelight2 were the highest, and Flipo, Starlight, and Aurys were followed in microhardness of bottom surface. Conclusions : The results suggest that careful use of Flipo and Freelight2 might be able to cure greater depth of resin composite and do not cause thermal problems than other curing units.
Copolymerization of ethylene and ${\alpha}$-olefin using $rac-Et[Ind]_2ZrCl_2/MAO$ catalyst embedded onto polysty-rene was examined. The embedded catalyst was prepared by polymerizing a small amount of styrene with $rac-Et[Ind]_2ZrCl_2$. The catalytic activities of the embedded catalyst were higher than those of the homogeneous catalystregardless of comonomer type and the characteristic of the active sites of the embedded catalyst was not affected duringthe embedding process. Based on the DSC and NMR analyses of the produced copolymers, it was thought that theembedded catalyst had similar or slightly better comonomer incorporation ability. Furthermore, the copolymers produced by the embedded catalyst had higher bulk densities and better particle morphology than those by the homogeneous catalyst.
