  • The power plants have a loading dock and unloading device for the diverse kinds of fuel such as the bituminous coal and natural gas imported by the sea from all over the world. To unload the coal in the ship not only in the environment-friendly manner but also in the cost-effective way, the new type of heavy equipment loaded with additional features as well as excavator and the remote controller to maneuver this equipment are developed. This heavy equipment, which can be used to unload the coal in the ship in conjunction with CSU (Continuous Ship Unloader), and the remote controller are endorsed by the related code and laws. With the remote controller, the field workers can operate the unloading equipment at the remote place far from the equipment as well as in the cabin for themselves without tile remote controller.

  • This paper presents a CAD program develpoed on a microcomputer in order to support graphic and computational assessment of ergonomic problems associated with the design of a man-in-cab system. The program is coded to help workspace designers with ergonomic evaluations needed in the design stage. This paper proposed a biomechanical -ergonomic evaluations needed using man and workplace models. The human model is developed to have dimensions obtained from the Korean anthropometric data reported in 1992. Its graphical representation is based on a wire-frame model but, whenever necessary, body segments can be represented by a solid model with hidden line/faces removed and shaded. Workplace models are presented for cabs of the excavator, one of the most popular construction vehicles. A workplace model consists of an operator seat, a steering wheel. two control levers, two pedals, and a control panel. The workplace elements can be modified in their sizes, positions, and orientations by changing the reference point and design parameters. An algorithm for the view test is suggested and loaded to provide a visual evaluaiton of the overall layout of a workplace model.

  • Cast iron is widely used in fields such as the transport and heavy industries. For parts where contact damage is expected to occur, it is necessary to understand the friction and wear characteristics of cast iron. In this study, we use cast iron plates as the specimens to investigate their friction and wear characteristics. We perform various experiments using a reciprocating type tribotester. We assess the frictional characteristics by analyzing the friction coefficient values that were obtained during the sliding tests. We observe the wear surfaces of cast iron and steel balls using a scanning electron microscope, confocal microscope, and 3d profiler. We investigate the friction and wear characteristics of cast iron by injecting sand and alumina particles having various sizes. Furthermore, we estimate the effect of temperature on the friction and wear characteristics. The results obtained are expected to aid in the understanding of the tribological characteristics of cast iron in industry.

  • The Geotextiles have been used for the protection of Geomembrane and the prevention of clogging phenomenon; however, the material can be easily damaged by construction equipments. It generally recommended to use at least $500g/m^2$ of Geotextile in Korea landfill, but few researcher were performed about the damage of Geotextile. Therefore, we intended to evaluate the potential damage of Geotextile by the traffic load simulating the final cover system in a field scale. Tensile strength and strain were appraised to understand the degree of damaged Geotextile. The tests were conducted under the condition of cross direction of Geotextile. Four different weight of Geotextile was used for the evaluation $500g/m^2$, $700g/m^2$, $1,000g/m^2$ and $1,500g/m^2$. The initial strain of $500g/m^2$ of Geotextile showed 50% that did not meet the standard 60%. The strain of $700g/m^2$ of Geotextile was below the standard after the traffic load test; however, the others met the requirement in the test. In conclusion, the weight of Geotextile used in landfill to protect the Geomembrane should be at least $700g/m^2$ in a view of strain requirement. We expect this study provides fundamental information for the construction of Geotextile in landfill.
