  • This paper is to study the Tang Dynasty monk poet Ling-yi's poem world and his significance on history of literature. In Chinese literature history, "the monk poets" is a very unique literature creation group. The means of a word "the monk poet", from the literal can see " he is the monk that Can write poems", which is dedicated to professionally writing poetry monk. Buddhism spread to China, from the Wei and Jin Dynasty beginning has been writing poetry of the monks, but the real meaning of "the monk poet" (i.e., professionally poetry monk) appeared to the Mid-Tang Dynasty period. The monk Ling-yi is the pioneer of the monk poets group and Buddist monk creative poem in Mid-tang Dynasty period. Although the Lingyi life is very short, only 35 had died, and his poetry has not been too much, only 44 songs, but he in this life of 35 years and 44 poems, for the development of classical Chinese poetry left noticeable imprinting. He is not just as monk's high practice and by advocating for great Buddhist scholar, also through the daily meditation in poetry creation practice were obtained at that time of many men of literature and writing respected. This paper from the poem monk Ling-yi double identity - the first is a Buddhist monk, the second is addicted to poetry poet to proceed, step by step, in-depth study as the poem monk Ling-yi's poetry creation characteristic and the creative mentality characteristics. This thesis also explores the poem monk by the creation of poetry pursuit, exploration, finally realized "poem" and "Zen" together as one "Zen poetry" creation mechanism.

  • Two trials at different body weights of Hanwoo heifers (average body weight of 143 and 257 kg, respectively) were conducted to determine crude protein requirements for maintenance (CPm). Six Hanwoo heifers in each trial were used in two 3 ${\times}$ 3 Latin square design with three diets containing three levels of CP, 14 days in each period. In trial 1, the diets were based on 2.8 kg fresh wt./day/heifer timothy hay (LCP) with supplements of either 250 g ground corn and 150 g corn gluten meal (MCP) or 500 g ground corn and 300 g corn gluten meal (HCP). In trial 2, the diets were based on 4.8 kg fresh wt./day/heifer timothy hay (LCP) with supplements of either 350 g ground corn and 250 g corn gluten meal (MCP) or 700 g ground corn and 500 g corn gluten meal (HCP). In trial 1, CP intakes were 236.6, 340.1, and 459.8 g/d for LCP, MCP, and HCP, respectively. Crude protein balances were 0.51, 1.87 and 3.20g/$BW^{0.75}$/d for LCP, MCP, and HCP, respectively. In trial 2, CP intakes were 415.2, 606.9 and 793.0g/d for LCP, MCP and HCP, respectively. Crude protein balances were 0.67, 1.03, 2.99 g/$BW^{0.75}$/d for LCP, MCP, and HCP, respectively. The maintenance requirements for CP from the regression equation between CP intake and CP balance were 4.58g/$BW^{0.75}$/d (trial 1) and 5.02 g/$BW^{0.75}$/d (trial 2) and lower than the value (5.56 g/$BW^{0.75}$/d) adopted by Korean Feeding Standards for Hanwoo (2007).

  • This experiment was carried out to determine energy requirements for maintenance of Hanwoo steers. Nine Hanwoo steers weighing 376.6$\pm$12.5kg were used in this experiment and fed rice straw(44%) and concentrate (56%) at three different energy levels; 0.8 times maintenance(0.8M), 1.2 times(1.2M) and 1.6 times(1.6M), respectively. Dry matter intake was 48.5, 65.9 and 86.5g/$BW^{0.75}$ for 0.8M, 1.2M and 1.6M, respectively. Increase in energy intake with the increased DM intake did not affect digestibilities of dry matter, organic matter, crude protein, crude fiber, crude fat and nitrogen-free extract. Gross energy intake averaged 190.8, 255.8 and 340.9kcal/BW0.75 for 0.8M, 1.2M and 1.6M, respectively. Energy loss was 41% feces and 0.6${\sim}$1.5% urine of gross energy intake. Further, energy loss from methane produced during rumen fermentation was 5${\sim}$9%, while body heat loss averaged 40${\sim}$60%. Intercept of the regression equation between ME intake and retained energy indicated that energy requirement for maintenance was 124.3kcal $ME/BW^{0.75}$.

  • BACKGROUND: Rice is one of the main sources for inorganic arsenic among the consumed crops in the world population's diet. Arsenic is classified into Group 1 as it is carcinogenic for humans, according to the IARC. This study was carried out to assess dietary exposure risk of inorganic arsenic in husked rice and polished rice to the Korean population health. METHODS AND RESULTS: Total arsenic was determined using microwave device and ICP-MS. Inorganic arsenic was determined by ICP-MS coupled with HPLC system. The HPLC-ICP-MS analysis was optimized based on the limit of detection, limit of quantitation, and recovery ratio to be $0.73-1.24{\mu}g/kg$, $2.41-4.09{\mu}g/kg$, and 96.5-98.9%, respectively. The inorganic arsenic concentrations of daily exposure (included in body weight) were $4.97{\times}10^{-3}$ (${\geq}20$ years old) $-1.36{\times}10^{-2}$ (${\leq}2$ years old) ${\mu}g/kg\;b.w./day$ (PTWI 0.23-0.63%) by the husked rice, and $1.39{\times}10^{-1}$ (${\geq}20$ years old) $-3.21{\times}10^{-1}$ (${\leq}2$ years old) ${\mu}g/kg\;b.w./day$ (PTWI 6.47-15.00%) by the polished rice. CONCLUSION: The levels of overall exposure to total and inorganic arsenic by the husked and polished rice were far lower than the recommended levels of The Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA), indicating of little possibility of risk.

  • Wilting and transpiration charactistics of Panax ginseng leaves were investigated at two temperature levels. Water potential and water absorption characteristics of leaf segments were also observed. Soybean leaves were compared. 1. Ginseng leaves were thiner, higher in water content and lower in dehydration rate. But time required to reach permanent wilting point (pwp) was less than half of that of soybean leaves because water content at pwp was about two times higher (80% of initial water for ginseng and 50% for soybean leaves). The time was shorter under high air temperature. 2. Transpiration rate was about a quater of soybean leaves and lower at $33^{\circ}C$ than $23^{\circ}C$, indicating that ginseng leaves are less tolorant to high air temperature. 3. Ginseng leaf segment showed smaller water free space but greater water deficit and little difference in was absorption rate. 4. Water potential of leaves measured by liquid immersion method was lower than that of soybean leaves. 5. Above results strongly suggest that ginseng plants are more susceptible to water stress. Thus greater light intensity during leaf growing stage (April to June) is recommendable to increase stomate frequency resulting greater transpiration rate and high temperature tolerance during July and August. Abundant water around roots seems to be beneficial as long as oxygen is not limited in rhizosphere.

  • To investigate changes in fatty acid and lipid composition of maturing perilla (Perilla frutescens var. japonica Hara) seeds, Suweon 10 and Jeju varieties were subjected to lipid analysis. The results were summarized as follows; As perilla seeds matured, content of glycolipid and phospholipid decreased. Glycolipid and phospholipid of mature seed were 25.4% and 4.5% of total lipids in Suweon 10 and those from Jeju were 44.5%, 4.0%, respectively. Cerebroside, galatosyl diglyceride and monogalatosyl diglyceride were major constitutents of ether-extractable glycolipids in developing perilla seeds. Monogalatosyl diglyceride, the richest constitutent in the early stage of seed development, decreased rapidly as seeds matured. In ether-extractable glycolipid of mature Suweon 10 seeds, content of linolenic acid was 51.1% which was higher than 19.4% of oleic acid of total acids. However, in Jeju variety, content of oleic acid was 31% which was higher than 18.6% of linolenic acid. Phosphatidyl choline, phosphatidyl ethanolamine, phosphatidyl glycerol and lysophosphatidyl inositol were major constituents of phospholipids. Content of phosphatidyl glycerol in developing seeds showed irregular changes in Jeju but in Suweon 10, it decreased after rapid increase in the early stage of seed development. Olieic acid ranges $28.7{\sim}35.2%$, linolenic acid $8.2{\sim}11.2%$, linoleic acid $16.4{\sim}32.5%$ and Palmitic acid $22.7{\sim}29.9%$ of total fatty acids in methanol-ertractible phospholipid of mature perilla seeds.

  • Wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) seeds were used to study a possible relationship between strontium and polyamines (PAs) in the coleoptile, root, and endosperm during germination. When $Sr^{2+}$ (0.001 mM + 10 mM) was applied to the incubation medium with $10\;{\mu}M$ $GA_3$, great increases in putrescine (Put) were observed in root and spermidine (Spd) in the coleoptile, depending on the concentration. In germinating seeds, putrescine accumulation was induced even at a low concentration (0.01 mM Sr), whereas spermidine accumulation was stimulated considerably at a high concentration (10 mM Sr). The putrescine levels, on a gram fresh weight (g-fr-wt) basis, in the roots which were growth-inhibited by 1 and 10 mM $Sr^{2+}$ were 22.4 and 15.3 fold higher respectively than at the same concentrations of $Ca^{2+}$. The accumulation of total polyamine (TA), in particular Put and Spd, induced by Sr seemed to be an important physiological response not only on a g fr wt basis but also on an RNA basis. In contrast, the levels of agmatine (Agm) and cadaverine (Cad) were notably enhanced by 10 mM $Ca^{2+}$ in the coleoptile and root. Cadaverine was detected only in $Ca^{2+}-treated$ seedlings. However, $Ca^{2+}-treatment$ in the range of 0.001 mM to 1.0 mM resulted in reduction of TA content. The distinction of accumulated polyamines and the change in diamine (DA) / TA and tri- and tertiary (tPA) / TA ratios were likely to be a physiological difference between $Sr^{2+}$ and $Ca^{2+}$ during germination in wheat.

  • To make clear the changes of the amount of reserve substances in the bark of stem and root of mulberry graftages after planting, studies were carried with mulberry graftages classified into three groups of 7.0-7.9mm, 9.0-9.9mm and 11.0-11.9mm in diameter of stems at 3cm above their base. The results obtained were as follow : 1. The dry weight of stem and root bark gradually decreased with growth of new shoots till about five weeks after planting, and from then it increased. 2. The duration of new shoots growth depending on the reserve substance was limited for 6-7 weeks after planting. In no fertilized group, the length of new shoots increased up to 6-7 weeks, form then decrease. 3. Dry leaf yield three weeks after planting was found to be no difference in the same diameter of saplings between with and without fertilization. 4. The content of chlorophyll in the leaves was higher in thicker group and in fertilized group than thinner and no fertilized one, respectively. 5. There was no difference in the amount of carbohydrates of the bark of stem and root among the stem diameters. There was a transient increase in the amount of total sugar in the bark of stem and root in the first three weeks after planting, followed by gradual decline up to five weeks. The amount of reducing sugar in the bark of stem and root increased both in fertilized and in no fertilized group up to three weeks after planting, and then it decreased. There was a gradual decline in the content of starch in the bark of stem and root both in fertilized and in no fertilized group up to five weeks after planting, followed by gradual increase.

  • In order to study the effects of probiotic and antibiotic on the performance of the chickens and the population of microfloras in the intestine, a feeding trial was conducted for a period of seven weeks. One hundred eighty hatched male chickens of layer attain were fed one of the following three experimental diets; nonmedicated control, antibiotic supplemented diet(virginiamycin 5 ppm) and probiotic supplemented diet. Birds fed probiotic supplemented diets were heavier and consumed more feed than those fed other diets but the differences were not statistically significant. Antibiotic supplemented group showed significantly (P〈0.01) better feed efficiency than other groups. Availabilities of dry matter, crude protein, crude fat, NFE, Ca and P were not significantly different between treatments but antibiotic supplemented group showed significantly(P〈0.05) lower availability of crude fiber than other groups. The weight of small intestine of the birds fed antibiotic supplemented diet was significantly (P〈0.05) lighter than those of other groups. The population of Bacillus subtilis and Lactobacilli in the intestinal content of the birds fed probiotic supplemented diet were significantly (P〈0.01) larger than those of other groups. On the other hand, the population of Coliforms in the probiotic group were significantly (P〈0.01) smaller than those in the nonmedicated control group.
