  • This research is a descriptive study that aimed to identify the health knowledge and optimistic bias related to stroke of middle-aged adults and the effect these had on their health-promoting lifestyle. The research was conducted from July 15 to August 15, 2015. The research subjects were 191 adults aged between 40 to 60 years. A structured questionnaire was used and self-administered for data collection. The PASW Statistics 21.0 and AMOS 21.0 programs were used for data analysis, and analysis of variance, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling analysis were conducted. It was found that the middle-aged adults recognized smoking and hypertension as higher risk factors for stroke than diabetes, and there was a slight optimistic bias for stroke. Health knowledge about stroke had correlations with optimistic bias (r = -.143, p = .048) and health-promoting lifestyle (r = .268, p = < .001), while optimistic bias had correlations with interpersonal relationships and stress (r = .177, p = .014) in health-promoting lifestyle. In addition, health-promoting lifestyle affected health knowledge more than optimistic bias. In conclusion, it was found that the active information acquisition, health knowledge, and optimistic bias of middle-aged adults toward stroke were important factors pertaining to a stroke-related health-promoting lifestyle. Therefore, an education program to improve the health-promoting lifestyle related to stroke in middle-aged adults should be considered as a way to enhance stroke-related health knowledge and reduce optimistic bias.

The subjects were 143 middle aged women from 40 to 59 years old and the data collection period was from June 1 to 25, 2016. The data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. We found a significantly positive association between health conservation and health promotion behaviors among middle-aged women. However, menopausal symptoms and wisdom were not significantly associated with health conservation. Stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed to analyze the most correlation variables were health enhancement behaviors with 12.5% and existence of spouse with 3.2%. The study subjects were middle-aged women (40~65years old) across the country, and data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS WIN/PC 24.0 statistics program. The study found that successful aging of middle-aged women, SOC alternative strategies and quality of life were statically correlated, and statistical significance was identified in order of successful aging(β=.41, p<.001) and SCO coping strategies(β=.17, p=.047) as variables describing quality of life. In this study, the explanatory power by the two variables was 24.7%. • Midlife is a critical time when people look back on their life and evaluate it from current state. In middle age, there is a satisfaction with achievement and a sense of crisis between reality and expectation. Research on pastoral counseling in the middle age to minimize problems and conflicts that occur in the transition period of crisis or opportunity is meaningful. Based on biblical principles, pastoral counseling should be able to help the client's needs and development tasks to be reproduced into a meaningful life on the basic premise of a realistic meeting with God. Therefore, through a literature review, the developmental views of Jung, Ericsson, Levinson, and the pioneers of middle-aged research, were examined. From this realistic point of view, the integration of pastoral counseling and reality therapy is considered to be very useful by allowing the harmony of internal dialogue and behavior to start together through the feasible realistic behavior and responsibility of one's choice. Insights on oneself and specific counseling methods of realistic therapy will present a new type of counseling through integration with pastoral counseling. Therefore after examining the theoretical background and characteristics of reality therapy, we intend to help overcome the middle-aged crisis through the meeting pastoral counseling and reality therapy.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine how Korean dance affects middle-aged women by acting as a cultural mediator. A qualitative approach was taken in order to best achieve the purpose of this study. The data used in this study were collected from Feb 10th to April 1st, 2016, using in-depth interviews. The results are as follows; firstly, on an emotional level, the middle-aged women participating in Korean dance as a cultural mediator, feel a sense of self-achievement and social belonging, as well as experiencing an improvement in their psychological stability by resolving their depression. Those who had lost their sense of autonomy and productivity were able to recover some of their self-esteem through this activity. Secondly, in terms of their activity, the Korean dance enabled the ladies to exercise their poorly used muscles by strengthening their gross and fine motor skills through the movements associated with the Korean traditional music. This allowed them to ease their chronic physical pain and it can be considered that their overall exercise function was increased by expanding their exercise radius. Third, in the cognitive area, it was possible for them to revive their happy memories by listening to the music which was loved by their preceding generations. This is because the melody of familiar Korean music provides them with the chance to remember their former days. Lastly, in the social area, the Korean dance allowed the middle-aged women to accept themselves through music and movement, as well as playing the role of a mediator which enabled them to overcome their isolation and the conflicts they face in their social relations. In addition, they achieved self-realization by reconnecting with the regional community through the Korean dance performances, which they learned as social community members.

  • This study is a narrative research study to investigate the knowledge, attitudes and preventive behaviors of middle-aged adults with dementia and to identify related factors. The study subjects were a total of 230 middle-aged adults living in K and P cities, and data were collected from March 2018 to July 2019 using a structured questionnaire. Collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis using SPSS / WIN 23.0 program. As a result of the study, the knowledge of dementia was 9.97 out of 15, the attitude of dementia was 47.45 out of 60, and the prevention of dementia was 27.75 out of 36. Knowledge of dementia had a positive correlation with dementia attitude (r=.122, p=.050) and dementia prevention behavior (r=.122, p<.05). Factors affecting dementia prevention behavior include marital status (β=.129, p<.05), education level (β=.219, p<.000), and type of disease (β=-.108, p<.000), presence of religion (β =-. 219, p <.000), interest in dementia (β=.237, p<.000), presence of drinking (β=.317, p<.000), smokingPresence or absence (β=.235, p<.000) and knowledge of dementia β=.316, p<.000) were found to have a significant effect. Therefore, in order to improve dementia prevention behavior of middle-aged adults, it is necessary to develop customized education programs for middle-aged adults to practice knowledge of dementia, positive attitudes, and good lifestyle.
