Desiccation Tolerance and Storage Behavior of Sarcandra glabra Seeds for Use in ex-situ Conservation (현지외 보존을 위한 죽절초 종자의 건조 내성과 저장성 평가)

  • This study sought to determine the desiccation tolerance and storage behavior of Sarcandra glabra seeds to assist in the establishment of an ex-situ conservation strategy for the species. The basic germination characteristics of S. glabra seeds were investigated. Subsequently, the seeds were dried to various desiccation levels to allow for analysis of their germination characteristics and seed integrity. In addition, the seeds were subjected to germination tests after being stored for different durations. The initial seed moisture content following the removal of the fleshy fruit was 32.8%, and the fresh seeds maintained their seed viability even after a decrease in the seed moisture content to 4.8%, while the germination percentage was 81.0%. The germination percentage of the seeds decreased to 55.0% and 30.0% when they were desiccated to moisture contents of 2.3% and 2.2%, respectively. By contrast, when the stored seeds were desiccated, they maintained their seed viability and vigor at a moisture content of 18.6%; however, when the moisture content decreased below 5.0%, both the seed viability and vigor significantly declined and the germination percentage fell below 20.0%. Furthermore, analysis of the seed leachate revealed that the decrease in the seed viability and vigor was associated with both increased electrical conductivity and increased concentrations of inorganic compounds such as potassium and calcium. In conclusion, the findings of this study show S. glabra seeds to possess desiccation tolerance that falls somewhere between the recalcitrant and intermediate seed types, with the observed variations depending on the degree of deterioration.

Vitamin C and Mineral Contents in Perilla Leaves by Leaf age and Storage Conditions (깻잎의 엽령 및 저장에 따른 비타민 C와 무기질 함량)

  • In this study, the differences in the contents of vitamin C and minerals in perilla leaves were compared according to the age of leaf and storage conditions. The content of vitamin C in perilla leaves the younger the perilla leaves, the higher the content of vitamin C: Vitamin C content of mature leaf at the lowest part of the stem was 63.7mg/100g, and that of young leaf at the top of the stem was 129.0mg/100g. However, the contents of Ca and Fe by the leaf age were in an opposite tendency with vitamin C: Ca content of the leaves at the lowest and the top part of the stem were 449.4 mg and 311.8mg/100g, respectively. But, the contents of Na and Mg were poor in mature leaf, and the content of K showed no particular difference according to leaf age. When stored at 5$^{\circ}C$, residual rate of vitamin C content was 92.56, 81.52 and 77.05%, after stored 1, 5 and 10 days, respectively. In the case of 20$^{\circ}C$, residual rate of vitamin C was 85.80, 79.90 and 72.53%, respectively. When stored at 5$^{\circ}C$, Ca content in perilla leaves was in the range of 348.93∼408.81mg/100g, and at 20$^{\circ}C$, the content of Ca was 360.26∼392.25mg/100g. Storage time and temperature did not make a significant difference in the mineral content of perilla leaves.

Effects of Storage Temperature and Packaging Methods on ]Repression of Lipid Oxidation in Plain Dried Large Anchovy (소건 대멸치의 저장 중 지질의 변화에 미치는 저장온도 및 포장방법의 영향)

  • The influence of different storage temperature and packaging methods on plain dried anchovy were investigated. When plain dried large anchovy (DLA) was stored at $-20^{\circ}C, 5^{\circ}C and 2^{\circ}C$, the lipid oxidation was rapidly progressed with the increased temperature. When DLA was stored at $25^{\circ}C and 5^{\circ}C$, peroxide value (POV) reached to maximum on 4 days and 20 days, respectively, while POV increased progressively during storage at $-25^{\circ}C$. The degree of lipid oxidation was progressed the fastest in DLA packed in polyethylene film, followed by packing with oxygen absorber and packing in vacuum. The fatty acid composition of total lipid in DLA revealed $52.3{\%}$ in polyenes, $29.2{\%}$ in saturates and 1$8.5{\%}$ in monoenes, and the major fatty acids were 22 : 6, 20 : 5, 16 : 0, 16 : 1 and 18: 1. Saturates were increased with the rise of storage temperature and prolonging the storage period, while polyenes were decreased. The changes of fatty acid composition was retarded at lower temperature. And the changes of fatty acid composition were the lowest in DLA by vacuum packing, followed by packing with oxygen absorber and packed in polyethylene film. The contents of highly unsaturated fatty acid of polyenes were decreased remarkably in proportion to the progress of lipid oxidation, while saturates were increased.

Study of Effective Cryoprotectants on the Cryopreservation of Porcine Mesenechymal Stem Cells (돼지 중간엽 줄기세포 동결에 있어서 동결보호제에 따른 특성 연구)

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effective cryoprotectants for the cryopreservation of porcine mesenechymal stem cells (pMSCs). In order to understand the effectiveness of various cryoprotectants on pMSCs, we studied the most commonly used cryoprotectants; dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), ethylene glycol (EG), DMSO and EG. pMSCs were isolated from bone marrow matrix of piglet (2 month) and characterized by alkaline phopshatase (AP) activity, colony forming, and differentiation to adipocyte. In slow cooling cryopreservation, the pMSCs were exposed to cell medium containing Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) supplemented with 10% DMSO, 1.5M EG and 5% DMSO/0.75M EG, respectively, and freezed to $-1^{\circ}C$/min from $25^{\circ}C$ up to $-80^{\circ}C$ in a cryo-container. The proportion of viable cells and the growing rates in fresh pMSCs were significantly (P<0.05) higher than those of other groups, but did not differ between the cryopreserved groups. The expression of Sox-2 and Nanog gene was increased by extending culture time in cryopreserved groups. The expression of Bax gene in cryopreserved groups was similar with fresh pMSCs. Moreover, the gene expression of adipocyte-specific marker as well as chondrogenic/osteogenic factors in cryopreserved groups was similarly to fresh pMSCs. Taken together, our results suggested that all these cryoprotectants of 10% DMSO, 1.5M EG and 5% DMSO/0.75M EG could be used for cryopreservation of the pMSCs.

Nanofibers Comprising Mo2C/Mo2N Nanoparticles and Reduced Graphene Oxide as Functional Interlayers for Lithium-Sulfur Batteries (Mo2C/Mo2N 나노 입자와 환원된 그래핀 옥사이드가 복합된 나노 섬유 중간층이 적용된 리튬-황 전지)

  • Nanofibers comprising reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and Mo2C/Mo2N nanoparticles (Mo2C/Mo2N rGO NFs) were prepared for a functional interlayer of Li-S batteries (LSBs). The well-dispersed Mo2C and Mo2N nanoparticles in the nanofiber structure served as active polar sites for efficient immobilization of dissolved lithium polysulfide. The rGO nanosheets in the structure also provide conductive channels for fast ion/electron transport during charging-discharging and ensured reuse of lithium polysulfide during redox reactions through a fast charge transfer process. As a result, the cell assembled with Mo2C/Mo2N rGO NFs-coated separator and pure sulfur electrode (70 wt% of sulfur content and 2.1 mg cm-2 of sulfur loading) showed a stable discharge capacity of 476 mA h g-1 after 400 charge-discharge cycles at 0.1 C. Furthermore, it exhibited a discharge capacity of 574 mA h g-1 even at a high current density of 1.0 C. Therefore, we believe that the proposed unique nanostructure synthesis strategy could provide new insights into the development of sustainable and highly conductive polar materials as functional interlayers for high performance LSBs.

An Analysis of Utilization on Virtualized Computing Resource for Hadoop and HBase based Big Data Processing Applications (Hadoop과 HBase 기반의 빅 데이터 처리 응용을 위한 가상 컴퓨팅 자원 이용률 분석)

  • In big data era, there are a number of considerable parts in processing systems for capturing, storing, and analyzing stored or streaming data. Unlike traditional data handling systems, a big data processing system needs to concern the characteristics (format, velocity, and volume) of being handled data in the system. In this situation, virtualized computing platform is an emerging platform for handling big data effectively, since virtualization technology enables to manage computing resources dynamically and elastically with minimum efforts. In this paper, we analyze resource utilization of virtualized computing resources to discover suitable deployment models in Apache Hadoop and HBase-based big data processing environment. Consequently, Task Tracker service shows high CPU utilization and high Disk I/O overhead during MapReduce phases. Moreover, HRegion service indicates high network resource consumption for transfer the traffic data from DataNode to Task Tracker. DataNode shows high memory resource utilization and Disk I/O overhead for reading stored data.

Tack Property Changes with the Storage of Textile Prepreg I (섬유 프리프레그의 저장에 따른 Tack성 변화 I)

  • 섬유 프리프레그(Prepreg)는 강화섬유를 수지에 함침하여 B-stage로 만든 복합재료의 중간성형재료이다. 최종적으로 프리프레그를 금형에 적층하여 가열 가압하여 수지를 경화함으로써 최종제품이 완성된다. 본 연구에서는 직물형 프리프레그를 사용하였는데, 사용되는 직물형태로는 복합재료 성형공정에서 형태안정성이 우수한 평직물과 능직물이 주로 사용된다. 직물형 프리프레그를 사용한 복합재료는 작업성과 형태안정성이 우수하면서 내충격특성이 우수하여 오토바이용 헬멧, 방탄용 헬멧 등에 주로 사용된다. 프리프레그에 요구되는 주요 특성중 하나는 Tack성으로서, 성형 과정에서 프리프레그를 여러 장 적층할 때 적층된 층 간에 미끄러지지 않으면서 잘 고정되어 적층 작업을 원활하게 하는 역할을 한다. Tack성은 수지의 B-stage 경화 후의 점성 거동에 따라 변화될 수 있는 것으로 표면의 끈끈함의 정도로서 알 수 있다. Tack성은 온도에 민감하여 측정 시에 일정한 온도의 유지가 중요하다. 이러한 온도에 대한 민감성 때문에 프리프레그의 저장시 저온에서 저장하는 것이 원칙인데, 상온에 있을 경우 시간경과에 따른 Tack성 변화가 크게 나타나게 된다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 아라미드 섬유와 열경화성수지를 이용하여 프리프레그를 제조하고 이를 상온상태에서 보관 시 일정시간 경과에 따른 Tack성 변화를 알아보고자 하였다.

Seamless Recording Algorithm Using MPEG System and Service Information in Mobile Broadcasting (MPEG 시스템 및 서비스 정보를 이용한 끊김 없는 모바일 방송 녹화 방법)

  • In the general recording method of mobile broadcasting, all incoming broadcasting streams after recording time will be saved regardless of its content. In this case, as such that viewers do not want to record, commercial advertisement, are saved together. In order to solve these problems, the proposed method checks if the contents such as advertisements are exist in the target stream by analysing the splicing in incoming MPEG-2 TS streams and, if splicing happened, excludes incoming stream after the splicing in the recording process. In the proposed method, first the splice in the recording stream is verified using the related flags of adaptation field in the TS packet and, if judged to cause a splice, the time of splicing is to be estimated by evaluating the value of splice_countdown filed. In this way, the proposed algorithm provides the seamless recording method by estimating the time of splice and excluding the contents after the splicing. To evaluate the proposed seamless recording method, the simulation was carried out by modifying the software of the existing mobile broadcasting terminal.

Materialized View Selection Scheme for enhancing RDF Query Performance (RDF 질의 처리 성능 향상을 위한 실체 뷰 선택 기법)

  • With the development of the semantic web, a large amount of data being produced nowadays is in RDF format. RDF is represented by a triple. An RDF database consisting of triples requires the high cost of join query processing. Materialized view is known as a scheme to reduce the query processing cost by accessing materialized views without accessing the database. It is physically stored the results or the intermediate results of the query processing in a storage area. In this paper, we propose a materialized view selection scheme by using decision tree to solve such a problem. The decision tree considers the size and maintenance costs of the materialized view as well as the profit of query response times. It is shown through performance evaluation that the proposed scheme increases the number of materialized views in the limited storage space and decreases the update rates of the materialized views.

An Intermediate Moisture Food from a Composite Meat of Squid and Pork (혼성육(混成肉)을 원료(原料)로 한 중간수분식품(中間水分食品)의 시제(試製))

  • An attempt was made in this study to investigate the possibility of processing squid along with pork into an intermediate moisture food, as an acceptable new item in Korea. To obtain a palatable and low cost product, portions of mixture consisting of equal amounts of ground squid and pork were cooked in soy sauce for 20 min, soaked in glycerol for 20 min at $80^{\circ}C$, and then air dried for 90 min at $60^{\circ}C$. During storage for 42 days in saturated humidity incubator at $37^{\circ}C$, the total microbial counts of the products packaged in polyethylene (0.05 mm), polypropylene (0.05 mm) and plastic laminated aluminum foil were decreased from 230 per gram to 40, 20 and 10 per gram respectively. In another long range storage test of 6 months, the results paralleled the above trends. Even though the TBA value of the samples increased during the storage, it was not so serious as to damage on the organoleptic quality of this product. The results indicate that stored product was as acceptable as the freshly prepared one.
