  • Co-existence of various wireless systems may cause frequency interference problem. For this reason, frequency sharing studies play a very important role in order to use limited spectrum resources efficiently. Especially, because a satellite system covers a global area in nature, the frequency sharing between the satellite system and terrestrial systems is essential. For satellite systems using Ka bands, we can increase spectrum efficiency by considering off-axis angles of earth station antenna. In this paper, we demonstrate the analysis result of separation distance between the satellite earth station and a terrestrial repeater, and the presented results can be used to design and implement Ka band wireless systems.

  • In order for unlicensed devices to co-exist on the same frequency band, the frequency interference mitigation policy is necessary. Because the effects of frequency interference between unlicensed devices may vary depending on the analysis layer, exact interference analysis must be proceeded before making any related spectrum policy. In this paper, a frequency interference between WLAN and WPAN systems that operate at 2.4 GHz ISM band were analyzed in the physical layer and MAC layer, respectively. From the results, we confirmed that the interference analysis in MAC layer is closer to the measured results. Based on these investigations, we suggest a new co-existence criterion for unlicensed devices in MAC layer.

  • In this paper, we review principal component analysis (PCA) procedures in the frequency domain and apply them to analyze sea surface temperature data. The classical PCA defined in the time domain is a popular dimension reduction technique. Extending the conventional PCA to the frequency domain makes it possible to define PCA in the frequency domain, which is useful for dimension reduction as well as a feature extraction of multiple time series. We focus on two PCA methods in the frequency domain, Hilbert PCA (HPCA) and frequency domain PCA (FDPCA). We review these two PCAs in order for potential readers to easily understand insights as well as perform a numerical study for comparison with conventional PCA. Furthermore, we apply PCA methods in the frequency domain to sea surface temperature data on the tropical Pacific Ocean. Results from numerical experiments demonstrate that PCA in the frequency domain is effective for the analysis of time series data.

  • The characteristics of forced vibration by an external excitation force having a frequency were analyzed according to the amplitude and frequency of the excitation force. To obtain displacement, velocity, and acceleration, numerical analysis was performed to obtain the frequency response, and in particular, each FRF(Frequency Response Function) was analyzed to reveal the location of the system natural frequency and excitation frequency in the frequency domain. In the vibration model caused by external excitation, the natural frequency and distribution of the surrounding excitation mode in displacement, velocity and acceleration FRF. The FRF was also shown in the power spectrum and FRF of real and imaginary parts. The external excitation force was approximated with the excitation force of a sine wave by giving the amplitude and frequency, the mode generated by this excitation force could be distinguished. After numerical analysis by changing the equivalent mass, damping and stiffness, the forced vibration response characteristics by external excitation force were systematically analyzed.

  • Vibrato corresponds to a modulation of frequency and is one of the most frequently used techniques to enrich vocal and musical instrument sounds. Whereas the fundamental frequency trajectories of vibrato tones are generally modeled as a sinusoid, they are sometimes observed to be non-sinusoidal. In this paper, we propose a method to analyze the characteristics of non-sinusoidal fundamental frequency trajectories of vibrato sounds. The proposed method performs Fast Fourier Transform (FFT)-based harmonic analysis on the frequency trajectory, analyzes vibrato parameters, and calculates a sinusoid purity factor. We applied the proposed method to flute, viola, and saxophone vibrato tones, whose results showed the effectiveness of the proposed method.
