  • Unsteady-state temperature distributions and thermal deformations in high speed spindle are studied. For the analysis, three dimensional model is built considering heat transfer characteristics such as natural and forced convection coefficients Temperature distributions and thermal deformations are analyzed by using the finite element method. Results of analysis are compared with the measured data.

고정밀 선반 주축계의 열특성 해석 (Analysis on the Thermal Characteristics of Spindle of a High Precision Lathe)

  • Unsteady-state temperature distributions and thermal deformations of the spindle of a high precision lathe are studied in this paper. Three dimensional model is built for analysis, and the amount of heat generation of bearing and the thermal characteristic values including heat transfer coefficient are estimated. Temperature distributions and thermal deformations of a model are analyzed using the finite element method and the thermal boundary values. Numerical results are compared with the measured data. The results show that the thermal deformations and the temperature distributions of the dpindle of a high precision lathe can be reasonably estimated using the three dimensional model and the finite element method.

  • In a high speed spindle system, it is very important to monitor the operation of the spindle to prevent catastrophic damage to the system. Widely used sensors for monitoring are eddy-current and capacitive types. These sensors provide high accuracy of monitoring, but their steep prices lead to expensive high speed spindle system. The main god of our research is to develop technology to produce high speed spindle system utilizing magnetic bearings. As active magnetic bearings require position sensors for feedback control, a noncontact position sensor is bang developed as a part of this main goal. Once developed, it will contribute to affordable high speed spindle system. In this paper, we report the selection process of the sensor types and the experimental results with driving circuits.

연삭기용 자기베어링 주축계의 고속화에 관한 연구 (Design of a Magnetic Bearing System for a High Speed Grinding Spindle)

  • The demand of high speed machining is increasing due to the high speed cutting and grinding provides high efficiency of process, short process time, improved metal removal capacity and better surface finish. Active magnetic bearings allow much high surface speed than conventional ball bearings and therefore greatly suitable for high speed cutting or grinding. This paper describes a design process of an active magnetic bearing system for a high speed grinding spindle with power 5.5kW and maximum speed 60,000rpm. Magnetic actuators are designed by the magnetic circuit theory considering static load condition, and examined with FEM analysis. Dynamic characteristics are also considered, such as bandwidth, stiffness, natural frequency and static deflection. System characteristics are simulated with a rigid rotor model.

  • 최근의 전자및 광학기기 분야에 있어서의 준부신 발전은 다면경 가공기나 초정밀 절삭, 연삭기와 같은 초정밀 가공기계의 개발과 실용화에 힘입은 바 크다. 이러한 초정밀 가공기의 성능을 좌우하는 핵심 요소로서 주축계를 들 수 있으며, 비교적 소형 경량의 공작물을 가공하는 기계의 주축용 베어링으로는 볼 베어링이나 오일 베어링을 대신하여 공기베어링이 점차 널리 사용되고 있다. 일반적으로 주축으로 사용되는 베어링은 원통형 레이디얼 베어링과 원판형 스러스트 베어링이 결합된 형식이 주류를 이루나 이러한 베어링은 스러스트 판과 축의 직가곧 가공오차가 존재하기 때문에 가공하기는 쉬우나 회전시에 의의 영향에 의해 회전 정밀도 유지가 어렵다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 이러한 단점을 보완하기 위하여 사용되는 베어링에는 원추형(conical) 베어링과 구면형(spherical) 베어링이 쓰이고 있다. 이러한 원추형 베어링과 구면형 베어링은 가공오차를 베어링과 축의 현압 연마로써 없애줄 수 있으며 베어링이 축방향 하중과 경방향 하중을 동시에 지지하여 줌으로써 기계 전체의 부피를 줄이고 회전 정밀도를 향상시켜 주는 것으로 알려져 있다. 그러나 구면의 베어링 간극을 정확히 가공하기 어려운 단점이 있어 축과 베어링을 현압연마하여 가공한 후에 두부품을 중심선상에서 분리시키므로써 요구되는 간극을 얻을 수 있는 원추형 베어링이 많이 쓰이고 있다. 본 연구에서는 직접 수치 해법을 이요하여 원추형 베어링의 유막내의 압력 분포를 계산하고 이 합력인 하중지지 용량이 축방향 하중과 경방향 하중을 지지하는 특성을 이론적으로 검토하여 외부 가압 원추형 베어링으 특성수를 파악하여 설계자료를 제시하고자 한다.

  • The important problem in the high speed spindles is to reduce and minimize the thermal effect by the motor and ball bearings. Thermal characteristics according to the bearing preload and hollow shaft cooling are studied for the spindle with the oil mist lubrication and high frequency motor. Temperature distribution and thermal deformation according to the spindle speed, preload and flow rate are measured by thermocouple and gap sensor. Temperature distribution and thermal deformation are analyzed by using the finite element method. The results of analysis are compared with the measured data. This paper show that the suitable preload and hollow shaft cooling are very effective to minimize the thermal effect by the motor and ball bearings. This study indicates that temperature distribution and thermal deformation of the high speed spindle system can be estimated reasonably by using the three dimensional model through the finite element method and supports thermal optimization and more effective cooling method.

Thermal characteristics according to the bearing preload and spindle cooling are studied for the spindle with the oil mist lubrication and high frequency motor. Temperature distribution and thermal displacement according to the spindle speed, preload and flow rate are measured. Temperature distribution and thermal displacement of the high speed spindle system can be estimated reasonably by using the three dimensional model through the finite element method. The results of analysis are compared with the measured data. This study supports thermal optimization and find out more effective cooling condition. This paper show that the suitable preload and spindle cooling are very effective to minimize the thermal effect by the motor and ball bearings.

  • This paper presents the thermal characteristics analysis of a high-speed HMC(horizontal machining center) with spindle speed of 30,000rpm and fried rate of 40m/min. The spindle speed is achieved by introducing angular contact ball bearings, oil-jet lubrication method, oil jacket cooling method, and so on. The spindle system is a motor-separated type composed of the main spindle and sub-spindle which are mechanically connected by the flexible coupling. The spindles are supported by two front and rear bearings, and the built-in motor is located between the front to and rear bearings of the sub-spindle. The thermal analysis model of HMC is constructed by the finite element method, and the thermal characteristics in the design stage are estimated based on temperature distribution and heat flow under the various testing conditions related to spindle speed and feed rate.

  • In this study, a motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with .psi. 65mm*25,000rpm is developed by introducing the oil-jet lubrication method,ceramic angular contact ball bearing, a built-in motor and so on. And oil-jet lubrication experiments for evaluating the system performance are performed under various operation conditions. Especially, in order to establish the oil-jet lubrication conditions related to the development of a high-speed spindle system, the effects of oil supply rate and rotational spindle speed are investigated on the temperature rise, temperature distribution,motor current and so on.

  • A motor-integrated high-speed spindle system with .psi. 65*25, 000rpm is modeled for analytical and experimental studies related to the dynamic characteristics. And the systematic and rational identification processes for evaluating the material properties of spindle and built-in motor is introduced. The impulse excitation method is applied for the experimental model testing, and the dynamic characteristics of test model is theoretically analysed by using the finite element method based on Timoshenko theory. Especially, the experimental and theoetical results reveal that the test model under the required operational conditions has no critical problem for dynamic characteristics.
