Based on the analysis of the NDL authority system, this study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of subject authorities related to Korea in the NDL. The results are as follows. First, NDL subject authorities related to Korea are 3,143 in total including 2,205 headings and 938 subdivisions. Among them, social sciences accounted for more than half with 52.4%, and economics by individual discipline accounted for the most with 552 cases, 17.6%. Second, most of the subject headings of historical events caused by or directly related to Japan are described from the Japanese perspective, and terms familiar to Korea are mainly described in reference, not in heading. Third, subject headings representing Korean characteristics or historical events are considerably lacking or nondescript. Forth, when referring the name of the country, the term 'Joseon (朝鮮)' continues to be used to refer to both South and North Korea; however, it is necessary to subdivide the history after 1948 which includes the era of the 'Republic of Korea' and the 'Democratic People's Republic of Korea'. Using the term Joseon to refer North and South Korea may cause the reader to perceive Korea as persisting in the Joseon Dynasty. Furthermore, while 'Balhae (渤海)' is regarded as Chinese history, it is a part of Korean history and should be added to the Korean historical periods.

This study was conducted to analyze the characteristics of records related to Korea shown in the cataloging records of major 10 Asia-Pacific university libraries. The results are as follows. To begin with, Korea-related records in most university libraries are very poor except for some libraries and are generally 2 times less than Japan related records. There are even 6 times less in 2 libraries. Second, most libraries organize records in MARC 21 format rather than UNIMARC, and apply subject headings of the national library, or go together with LCSH. Third, Korean materials usually write Korean in Roman characters, but 5 libraries are marked with the original Korean language and available Hangeul search. Forth, on investigation of the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related records, subject related to 'history', 'economy', and 'politics' is largely shown in the highest rate. Fifth, Among the Korea-related subject heading, the terms such as 'Taekwondo', 'Kimchi', 'Dokdo', 'Donghae', 'Duman-gang', 'Baekdu-san' have different meanings in different libraries. However, these terms agree to LCSH in most libraries except for neighboring countries's libraries.

The results are as follows. To begin with, Korea-related records in most national libraries are very poor and under 0.01% of the library. Second, Korean materials usually write Korean in Roman characters except for National Library of Armenia, but there are not marked with the original Korean language and unfeasible Hangeul search. Third, on investigation of the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related records, subject related to history, politics, and economy is largely shown in the highest rate. Fifth, among the Korea-related subject heading, Taekwondo is marked with distinction from Karate in most libraries except for National Library of Argentina. Dokdo is marked with the geographical name of 'Korea' in 8 national libraries and East Sea (Donghae) already is marked with 'Sea of Japan' in 7 national libraries. Amnokgang, Dumangang, and Baekdusan-related records did not search at all in most national libraries.

Second, except for National Library of Iran and Viet Nam most national libraries romanize Korean materials, there are not marked with the original Korean language and unfeasible Hangeul search. Third, on investigation of the subject distribution in sub criteria of Korea-related records, subject related to history and economy is largely shown in the highest rate. Fifth, among the Korea-related subject heading, Taekwondo is marked with distinction from Karate in most libraries except for 7 national libraries. Dokdo is marked with the geographical name of 'Korea' in 7 national libraries and East Sea (Donghae) already is marked with 'Japan, Sea of' in 7 national libraries. Amnokgang, Dumangang, and Baekdusan-related records did not search at all in most national libraries.

This paper studied on problems and improvement method of description and headings in ${\ulcorner}Korean\;MARC\;on\;Disc\lrcorner$. By Korean MARC on Disc, it seems a great mistake that in abridged and full information, give the volumes next to statement of title and author. and even input copies of them respectively in case of multi-volume books. Also, frequently the essential abridged catalog information of a homonymic authors more than 10 which are written to Chinese are enumerated under one author name in Korean, using together with only one list. It is, therefore, effective and reasonable that Korean author headings be written to Korean language at first and be followed by Chinese, and then the subject of an author and the year of birth and death of author be indecated. For that, We should make out a conventional and reasonable subject heading list in advance to maintain the unity of subject, and build a exact authority database of Korean author name according to it.
