Trophic State and Water Quality in Major Lakes of the Sumjin and Youngsan River Systems (섬진강 ${\cdot}$ 영산강 수계 주요 호소의 수질 동향과 영양상태 조사)

  • This study aimed to analyze water quality (temperature, secchi depth, DO, $NH_4$, $NO_3$, $PO_4$, TN, TP, chlorophyll a) and trophic state index during the period of year 2000 ${\sim}$ 2004 in Lake Juam, Lake Dongbok and Lake Youngsan. Lakes Juam and Dongbok except Lake Youngsan were stratified during warm seasons. Water turbidity estimated by secchi disk depth was the highest in Lake Youngsan compared with other lakes. DO concentrations were low in the bottom water when chlorophyll a was high in Lake Juam and Dongbok. Nutrient concentrations were higher in Lake Youngsan than other lakes whereas chlorophyll a was highest in Lake Dongbok. Lake Youngsan was the most eutrophic compared to other two lakes based on the Trophic State Idex (TP) and TSI (SD), The TSI (CHL) was high but the TSI (TP) were low in Lake Juam and Dongbok. These results suggest phytoplankton may be limited by phosphates (P) in Lake Juam and Dongbok whereas light availability in the water column may affect growth of phytoplankton in Lake Youngsan.

  • 대기중으로 방출된 오염물질은 기상조건에 따라 다른 지역으로 이동하여 침적하는 메커니즘을 가지고 있는데, 이의 규명을 위하여 주암호 유역을 대상으로 건성침강하는 대기오염물질의 양과 이들에 의한 수질의 오염기여도 및 발생원에 대한 추적을 본 연구에서 시도하였다. 전라남도 송광면에 위치하고 있는 주암호는 홍수의 조절 및 억제와 수자원의 안정적인 공급을 위하여, 1984년도에 만들어졌으며, 현재 광주 및 전남의 식수 및 생활용수를 공급하는 중요 상수원일 뿐 만 아니라 광양제철 등의 여천산업단지의 공업용수를 공급하고 있는데 최근 수자원의 고갈이 심각하여 대두되고 있는 현시점에서 주암호에 대한 중요성 및 의존도는 더욱 증대되었다. Size-structure and Primary Productivity of Phytoplankton from Major Lakes in Sumjin and Yeongsan Watershed (섬진강.영산강 수계 주요 호소의 식물플랑크톤 크기구조 및 일차생산력)

  • Physiochemical factors, phytoplankton biomass (Chl ${\alpha}$) and primary productivity were investigated seasonally in the three lakes of Dongbok, Juam, and Yeongsan during April 2004${\sim}$March 2006. Microphytoplankton dominated (>60%) in Dongbok lake, and phytoplankton biomass was high in the upper area, especially during April 2004, whereas they were high in the lower area during June 2004. In Juam lake, the high phytoplankton biomass in April 2004 was contributed by nanophytoplankton. In Yeongsan lake, chlorophyll a was high in August with high contribution of nanophytoplankton. Primary production was highest in Dongbok lake, and then followed by Yeongsan and Juam lakes. Regression analysis in Dongbok take showed that Chl ${\alpha}$ and primary production had close relations with secchi depth. In Juam lake, phosphate were correlated with the Chl ${\alpha}$, while temperature and TN was correlated with primary production in the lower area. In Yeongsan lake, Chl ${\alpha}$ have positively correlation with TN/TP. Primary production in the upper have high relationship with secchi depth, however, in the lower have high relationship with turbidity. Linear regression analysis showed that nutrients of nitrogen and phosphorus should be reduced for the protections in Juam and Dongbok lakes. We suggested that suspended solids and phytoplankton growth related to turbidity are needed to manage in Yeongsan lake.

주암호 식물플랑크톤 군집 및 와편모조 Peridinium bipes의 시공간적 분포

  • 최근 담수적조가 발생하고 있는 주암호의 와편모조 Peridinium를 중심으로 식물플랑크톤 군집의 동태와 환경요인과의 관계를 파악하기 위하여 2003년 8월부터 2004년 8월까지 매월 1회씩 환경요인과 식물플랑크톤 군집변동을 조사하였다. 주암호 식물플랑크톤 군집은 호소 유입부인 정점 3에서 높은 현존량과 종수를 보인 반면, 댐 인접부근인 정점 1에서는 낮은 현존량을 보였다. 또한 와편모조 Peridinium bipes의 대발생은 주로 강우가 적고 저수량이 적은 건기에 일어났으며, 대발생 시기와 규모는 정점 3, 정점 2, 정점 1순으로 나타났다.

  • 우리나라는 여름철에 강우가 편중되어 있고 동고서저의 산악지형으로 수자원확보가 어려운 실정이며 이는 곧 하천의 유지유량확보의 어려움과도 직결된다. 이러한 수자원확보를 위해 최근 기존 저수지 둑을 높이는 사업이 전국적으로 활발히 진행되고 있으며 이는 저수지나 댐의 수체와 같은 수자원을 보다 적극적으로 활용하여 그 가치를 높임과 동시에 하천에 대한 활용도를 높이고자 하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 따라서 저수지나 댐의 저류량에 기여하는 강우량, 유입량과 같은 수문학적 자료의 심도 있는 분석이 필요하며 수문변수들이 나타내는 복잡한 패턴에 대한 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 저수지나 댐의 저류량에 직접적으로 영향을 주는 수문변수들을 전체적으로 파악하기 위해 수집된 수문자료의 각각의 특성 및 자료들 사이의 복합적인 관계를 파악하였으며 이를 위하여 패턴분류 분야에서 그 적용타당성이 입증된 자기조직화 지도(Self-Organizing Map: SOM)를 이용하였다. 본 연구의 대상지점은 섬진강 유역내에 위치한 주암호를 대상지점으로 선정하였으며 패턴분석에 사용한 수문자료의 기간은 2007~2010년까지 5년간의 월평균 자료를 활용하였다. SOM의 적용 결과, 측정수문자료에 대한 전체적인 특성을 패턴분류를 통해 분류하였으며, 각 변수에 대한 패턴별 상대성을 고려한 클러스터별 특성 및 시간적 이질성을 파악할 수 있었다. 이는 측정 자료에 대한 분석 기법개발의 일환으로 향후 수자원 확보에 대한 개발 및 정책의 기초자료로 활용될 것으로 기대된다.

Seasonal Variation of Picoplankton Community in Lake Juam (주암호에서 미세조류의 계절적 군집 변화)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the seasonal variation of picoplankton community in Lake Juam depending on the change of physico-chemical factors such as rainfall, water depth, DO and pH. The concentration of chlorophyll-a was most high as 18.03 mg/$m^3$ in July when the rainfall and water temperature were highest. The concentration was gradually decreased in October, April and that of January was decreased most low as 1.86 mg/$m^3$. The highest concentration of the Chl-a was shown at 2 and 5 m of water depth than surface, and the concentration was gradually decreased when the water depth becomes deep. Overall, microplankton was the highest rate as 33.9~54.2%, nanoplankton was 24.3~30.5% and picoplankton was 21.6~41.2%. Picoplankton was included as considerable concentration in the water of Juam lake. Therefore it is necessary to remove thoroughly the picoplankton in the water treatment processes such coagulation·sedimentation and sand filtration. The protoplasm released from destruction of picoplankton by chlorine has high possibility to cause regrowth of bacteria and pathogenic microorganism in the distribution system by playing the role of the assimilable organic carbon.

The Behavior of Dissolved and Particulate Phases of Trace Elements within the Watershed of Juam Reservoir (주암호 집수유역 내 용존 및 입자상 미량원소의 거동 특성)

  • In order to investigate the amounts of trace elements flowing into reservoir, and to elucidate the relationship between trace element mobility and fraction size, the stream water and sediment samples were collected from thirty-two sites of the 3rd or 4th order stream within watershed surrounding the Juam reservoir. Chemical analyses of trace elements (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn) for all samples were completed, and additionally cationi and anion for stream water samples. Considering the distribution of rocks and contamination sources in watershed, the eight stream sediments were selected from typical sites representing study areas, and we determined the concentrations of trace elements according to size fractions ($2\;mm{\sim}200\;{\mu}m$, $200{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$, $100{\sim}50\;{\mu}m$, $50{\sim}20\;{\mu}m$ and < $20\;{\mu}m$). The correlation relationships between concentrations and size fractions of stream sediments were important to identify the hydro-geochemical behavior of trace elements that flow into Juam reservoir. Stream waters showed four water types (Ca-Mg-$HCO_3$, Ca-Na-$HCO_3$-Cl, Ca-Na-$HCO_3-SO_4$, Ca-Na-$HCO_3$) depending on pollution sources such as coal mine, metal mine, farm-land and dwellings. Concentrations of trace elements increased clearly with the decrease in size fractions of stream sediments. Concentrations of Cu, Pb and Zn increased dramatically in silt size (< $20\;{\mu}m$) fraction, while As had high concentrations in sand size ($2\;mm{\sim}100\;{\mu}m$) fraction in downstream sediments of metal mines. These indicate that Cu, Zn, and Pb moved into Juam reservoir easily in the adsorbed form on silt size grain in sediments, and As was transported as As-bearing mineral facies, resulting in its less chance to reach into Juam reservoir.
