Pharmacomkinetics of Roxithromycin after Intravenous Administration in Broilers (록시스로마이신의 정맥주사 후 육계에서의 약물동태학적 분석)

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate the disposition pharmacokinetics of roxithromycin in broilers. Roxithromycin was administered at a single dose of 20 mg/kg body weight by intravenous (i.v.) routes. Plasma concentrations of roxithromycin were determined by liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry. After a single i.v. dose plasma concentrations were best fitted to a two-compartment open model. The values of the pharmacokinetic parameters after i.v. administration were: elimination half-life = $5.83{\pm}1.79h$, mean residence time = $6.33{\pm}0.32h$, total body clearance = $0.55{\pm}0.15L/h/kg$, and volume of distribution at steady state = $3.47{\pm}0.84L/kg$. The pharmacokinetic interpretation of roxithromycin after i.v. administration revealed that the drug was well distributed throughout the body in broilers and slowly eliminated. More studies for the application of roxithromycin against poultry disease are needed to establish a suitable pharmaceutical formulation, propose optimum dosage regimens, investigate clinical efficacy and study the tolerability of repeated doses.

Isolation of Bovine Spermatozoal Components by Physical or Chemical Treatments (물리.화학적 처리에 의한 소 정자세포구성분의 분리)

  • An understanding of the structure and function of mammalian spermatozoa requires the iso-lation of these components. In this study, frozen-thawed bovine spermatozoa were treated by physical treatments (vortexing, 26 gauge needle, strained 26 gauge needles and freezing-thawing) or chemical treatments (trypsin, dithiothreitol, sodium dodecylsulfate and $\beta$-mercaptoethanoJ) to yield free heads and tails. The most effective treatment was repeated pumping of sperm suspension through a strained 26 gauge needle conneted to a syringe. Spermatozoa by this treatment were mainly broken at the junction of the head and the tail, resulting in 90-100% yields. Also, sperm head surface did not modify during strained 26 gauge needle treatment when either spermatozoa or sperm heads were incubated in 250${\mu}\textrm{g}$/ml of FITC-UEA 1 for 1 h at room temperature to detect the modification of sperm surface components. Other physical treatments were less efficient for the breakdown of spermatozoa. The effects of chemical treatments on bovine spermatozoa are not noticeable. Dissected sperm heads and tails should be fractional leading to nearly pure components by sucrose gradient centrifugation at 1,000 rpm for 15 min. The result suggest that the established method may be useful for the biochemical study of spermatozoal components, and the understanding of oocyte activation mechanism either by spermatozoal components during fertilization or microinjection of isolated components.

Conservative and Arthroscopic Treatment of Calcific Tendinitis (석회화 건염의 보존적 및 수술적 치료 결과)

  • Purpose: We evaluated calcium resolution and clinical improvement of calcific tendinitis after conservative and arthroscopic treatment. Materials and Methods: We reviewed 126 patients of calcific tendinitis treated from January, 2002 to April, 2005. Average age was 53 and female dominant in 77% of the cases. Calcium deposits were involved in supraspinatus tendon in 84% of the cases. We compared clinical changes for 64 cases treated with injection, and 12 cases treated by arthroscopic decompression with 6 month follow-up. Results: 77%(49/64) of the cases with steroid injection showed symptom improvement. Even though complete resolution of calcific deposit occurred in 36%(23/64), incomplete resolution in 17%(11/64) and no change in 47%(30/64), Pain was relieved in 87%(20/23), 82%(9/11) and 67%(20/30), respectively. With arthroscopic treatment, calcium deposit completely resolved in 83%(10/12), and all cases showed pain free motion after 6 months. Conclusion: Conservative treatment with steroid injection was effective for acute pain in resorptive phase. In cases of arthroscopic treatment, there was no need for complete removal of calcium deposit during the procedure, but clinical symptoms improved with resolution of the deposit.

Diffuse Panbronchiolitis : Clinical Significance of High-resolution CT and Radioaerosol Scan Manifestations (미만성 범세기관지염에서 흉부 고해상도 전산화 단층촬영의 임상적의의 및 폐환기주사 소견)

  • Background : Diffuse panbronchiolitis(DPB) is a disease characterized clinically by chronic cough, expectoration and dyspnea; and histologically by chronic inflammation localized mainly in the region of the respiratory bronchiole. It is prevalent in Japanese, but is known to be rare in Americans and Europians. Only a few cases in Chinese, Italians, North Americans and Koreans have been reported. It is diagnosed by characteristic clinical, radiological and pathologic features. High-resolution CT(HRCT) is known to be valuable in the study of the disease process and response to therapy in DPB. To our knowledge, there has been no correlation of its appearance on HRCT with the severity of the disease process, and radioaerosol scan(RAS) of the lung has not previously been used for the diagnosis of DPB. Method : During recent two years we have found 12 cases of DPB in Kangnam St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic University Medical College. We analysed the clinical characteristics, compared HRCT classifications with clinical stages of DPB, and determined characteristic RAS manifestations of DPB. Results : 1. The ages ranged from 31 to 83 years old(mean 54.5 years old), and male female ratio was 4:8. 75%(9/12) of patients had paranasal sinusitis, and only one patient was a smoker. 2. The patients were assigned to one of three clinical stages of DPB on the basis of clinical findings, sputum bacterology and arterial blood gas analysis. of 12 cases, 5 were in the first stage, 4 were in the second stage, and 3 were in the third stage. In most of the patients, pulmonary function tests showed marked obstructive and slight restrictive impairments. Sputum culture yielded P.aeruginosa in 3 cases of our 12 cases, K.pneumoniae in 2 cases, H.influenzae in 2 cases, and S.aureus in 2 cases. 3. Of 12 patients, none had stage I characteristics as classified on HRCT scans, 4 had slage II findings, 5 had stage III findings, and 3 had stage IV characteristics. 4. We peformed RAS in 7 of 12 patients With DPB. In 71.4% (5/7) of the patients, RAS showed mottled aerosol deposits characteristically in the transitional and intermediary airways with peripheral airspace defects, which contrasted sharply with central aerosol deposition of COPD. 5. There were significant correlations between HRCT stages and clinical stages(r= 0.614, P < 0.05), between HRCT types and Pa02(r= -0.614, P < 0.05), and between HRCT types and ESR(r= 0.618, P < 0.01). Conclusion : The HRCT classifications correspond well to the clinical stage. Therfore in the examination of patients with DPB, HRCT is useful in the evaluation of both the location and severity of the lesions. Also, RAS apears to be a convenient, noninvasive and useful diagnostic method of DPB.

The Analysis on Properties of Epoxy/MWCNT for Bonding CFRP to Steel Plates (CFRP와 금속 재료의 접합을 위한 epoxy/MWCNT의 특성 분석)

  • The effect of a multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWNCT) on the adhesive properties and thermal properties of epoxy were studied by double lap-shear tests. Epoxy/MWCNT resins were prepared from a different amount of the MWCNT incorporated into the epoxy resins (araldite 2011). Steel plates and carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) were chosen as materials. Mechanical tests were performed by a universal testing machine (UTM). The analysis of thermal properties were conducted by a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and a differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The fracture surface morphology was examined using a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and optical microscope. Compared to neat epoxy, it was found that the mechanical properties of epoxy/MWCNT resins are increased.

Organic-Inorganic Nanocomposites of Polystyrene with Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane (실세스키옥세인을 사용한 폴리스티렌 나노복합재료)

  • Polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxanes (POSS) were used as starting materials for the preparation of hybrid materials with polystyrene (PS). Optically transparent hybrids were obtained in a wide range of weight ratios when phenyl groups were introduced to each corner of the silsesquioxane. In contrast, as cyclohexyl groups were introduced, the obtained hybrid materials with PS resulted in turbid films. The aromatic (${\pi}-{\pi}$) interaction was confirmed to be a quite effective tool for the synthesis of organic-Inorganic polymer hybrids with POSS. The obtained homogeneous and transparent hybrid films could be dissolved in solvents and East again without any separation. The homogeneity of polymer hybrids with POSS was supported by the result of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), which demonstrated a nanometer-level integration of PS and POSS.

  • The development of a compact and high performance MWIR thermal imaging sensor based on the SOFRADIR 320${\times}$240 element IRCCD detector is described. The sensor has 20 magnification zoom optics with the maximum 40$^{\circ}$${\times}$30$^{\circ}$ of super wide field of view and 7.6 cycles/mrad of resolving power with the operation of attached micro-scanning system. In order to correct nonuniformities of detector arrays, we have proposed a multi-point correction method using defocusing of the optics and we have acquired the highest quality images. The MRTD of our system shows good results below 0.05K at spatial frequency 1 cycles/mrad at narrow field of view. Experimental data and obtained performances are presented and discussed.

A Study on the Thermochromic properties of Ti-doped Vanadium Dioxide (티타늄이 도핑된 이산화 바나듐의 열변색 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, vanadium dioxide was doped with titanium (0~0.5 at %) to improve thermochromic properties. The titanium doped vanadium dioxide (Ti-VO2) particles were prepared via thermolysis process using vanadyl sulfate, ammonium bicarbonate and titianium chloride as precursors. The crystal structure, morphology, chemical bonding and thermochromic properties were investigated by using XRD, FE-SEM, XPS, DSC and UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy. It was found that titanium was successfully doped into the crystal lattice of VO2 and the obtained Ti-VO2 particles have monoclinic structure. With increasing Ti concentration, the particle size and phase transition temperature of Ti-VO2 particles decreased and NIR switching efficiency increased.

Gelatinization and Retrogradation Properties of Modified Starch by Steeping Sweet Potato (고구마 수침에 의한 변성 전분의 호화와 노화 특성)

  • Gelatinization and retrogradation properties of modified starches which were prepared by steeping sweet potato at $40^{\circ}C$ for 2, 4, 7 and 10 days were investigated. The peak temperature of gelatinization and enthalpy of untreated starch by DSC were $53.9^{\circ}C\;and\;1.32\;cal/g$, respectively, but those of modified starch were increased by steeping. In gelatinization by alkali, starches with 2, 4 and 7 day steeping showed higher viscosities than untreated starch, whereas the viscosities of starches with 10 day steeping decreased. The clarities in paste decreased during storage in all starches and decreased in starches with steeping. The degrees of retrogradation by ${\alpha}-amylase-iodine$ method were higher in starches with steeping than untreated starch. The enthalpy of retrograded starches by DSC increased by steeping except 4 day steeping starch. The sweet potato extract containing sugar inhibited the retrogradation of starch paste and the degree were higher in residual starches than in untreated starch.

Characterization of PMMA/MWNT Composites Fabricated by a Twin Screw Extruder (이축 압출기를 이용하여 제조된 PMMA/MWNT 복합체의 특성 분석)

  • MWNTs have been widely investigated due to unique properties of such as good electrical conductivity and thermal stability in polymer composites industries. This paper established the procedure to fabricate PMMA/MWNT composites by a modular intermeshing co-rotating twin screw extruder with L/D ratio of 42. The electrical properties of PMMA/MWNT composites with different content of MWNT have been investigated. A sheet resistance percolation was observed at 4 wt% of MWNT for the melt processed composites. Sheet resistance of PMMA/MWNT composite film containing 4 wt% of MWNT was nearby $10^4{\Omega}/sq$ and this shows the possibility of potential application to EMI (Electronic Magnetic Interference) shielding materials. The characteristics of composites were analyzed by TGA, DSC, and SEM. In addition, MFI (Melt Flow Index) has been measured to analyze the rheological property.
