Techniques to improve DRAM Energy Efficiency through Selective Refresh (선택적 리프레시를 통한 DRAM 에너지 효율 향상 기법)

  • DRAM is a major component of the main memory system. As the operating system evolves and application complexity and capacity increases, the capacity and speed of DRAM are also increasing. DRAM should perform a refresh action of periodically reading and then re-storing stored values, and the accompanying performance and power/energy overhead embodies characteristics that worsen as capacity increases. This study proposes an energy efficiency improvement technique that efficiently stores the rows that need to be refreshed within 64ms and 128ms using the bloom filter for cells with the lowest retention time of electrons. The results of the experiment showed that the proposed technique resulted in an average 5.5% performance improvement, 76.4% reduction in average refresh energy, and 10.3% reduction in average EDP.

  • The filtering characteristics of planar distributed feedback (DFB) waveguides composed by gratings with different period are solved using equivalent transmission-line network. To analyze explicitly its band-pass and resonance properties, a longitudinal modal transmission-line theory (L-MTLT) based on Floquet's theorem and Babinet's principle is newly developed. The numerical results reveal that this approach offers a simple and analytic algorithm to analyze the filtering characteristics of cascaded DFB structure with different period, and the bandwidth and side-lobe suppression of cascaded DFB filter are sensitively dependent on the variation of aspect ratio and the number of grating at each region.

  • 본 논문은 "HTML5 기반 스마트 TV 플랫폼" 표준에 따라서 개발될 수 있는 다양한 스마트 TV 애플리케이션의 형식과 관계를 규정하기 위한 애플리케이션 모델을 소개한다. 스마트 TV 용 애플리케이션은 브라우저 기반의 웹 실행 환경에서 동작하지만 일반 PC 나 스마트 폰과 다른 TV 환경의 특성을 고려해야 하며, 이에 따라 앱의 형식을 분류하고 실행 방법과 생명 주기를 정의하며 애플리케이션 사이에서 동작 관계를 규정하는 등의 모델 정립이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 스마트 TV 용 애플리케이션을 패키징 여부, 실행 방식, 방송 수신 기능의 활성화 여부, 채널 종속 여부의 4 가지 요소로 분류하여 애플리케이션의 정의, 속성, 플랫폼 실행방식 등을 기술한 애플리케이션 모델을 정의한다. 또한 각 애플리케이션의 생성과 종료를 위한 생명주기와 각 애플리케이션 사이에서 우선 순위를 기반으로 한 상호 작용 정책을 규정한다. 이러한 모델 정의를 바탕으로 스마트 TV 서비스에서 고려할 수 있는 대표적인 애플리케이션 동작 시나리오를 제시하고 유효성 검증을 위해 이를 구현한 수신기와 애플리케이션이 동작하는 사례를 소개한다.

  • Most of studies on wave height algorithms that are using at buoys describe algorithms using double integral to determine the position data from the acceleration data measured from the accelerometer. but sometimes, it can involve some cumulative error in that process, and result in misjudgment or unstabe system. On the other hand, It is widely known that the motion of fluid particles on or underneath a linear progressive wave is periodic and elliptic. This fact is considered in this article and leads a improved algorithms with no integral processing.

  • The radar operated to detect/track aircraft targets is divided into a search radar that operates while the antenna rotating device rotates for the purpose of detecting the target according to the mission characteristics, and a tracking radar that periodically steers and tracks a beam to the predicted position of the target. The tracking radar has a shorter target information acquisition preiod than the search radar. Due to this characteristic, the tracking accuracy is better than that of the search radar, but as the prediction error increases due to the speed error at the beginning of the tracking, there are many cases in which tracking fails at the beginning of tracking due to failure to perform beam steering normally. In this paper, in order to solve the above-mentioned problems, we propose an algorithm for improving the accuracy of track initiation using radial velocity measurements in addition to the position of the measured, and confirm the performance of the proposed algorithm by comparing with the two point differential algorithm

Mechanism of Windowing of Domestic Free TV Programs (국내 지상파 방송 콘텐츠의 창구화 메커니즘 분석)

  • Domestic free TVs play roles as for contents provider and TV station : they need to acquire not only ad revenues but also distribution revenues from internet service, cable channel and DMB. It is however doubtful to keep the windowing of programs through the different windows due to recent decrease of ad revenues of the stations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to search for the mechanism of windowing of free TV's programs and the strategy of the distribution. As a result, the life cycle of the broadcasting programs is so short to be distributed within 7 days, Regarding the windowing, there are at first the strategy increasing the accumulated revenue by the diversification of the windows ; secondly, the strategy focusing on the prospective window neglecting the holdback. It is necessary to choose to take the appropriate strategy by the particularity of each program and the market background.

  • This paper provides Bus Information System(BIS) implementation based on the Smart-phone APPs using GPS information. Nearly all of recent smart-phones are equipped with the GPS feature. Bus driver's smart-phone can send the position information using its GPS information periodically and on events. On receiving those information, servers can process those into the information that can be used by individual users and bus stop information panel. The proposed BIS based on smart-phone APPs is expected to be used publicly with the special process that enables the smart-phone APPs only in the specific bus.

  • Performance of the mobile devices, such as Smartphones, is sensible by the early-stage of the execution of the applications. To addressing this issue, the dynamic frequency scaling by the ondemand governor has an inherent weakness by the sampling period that may induces some delay in the execution time of the applications. In this paper, we propose an adaptive sampling method that varying the sampling period of the ondemand governor in accordance with the execution of the applications. By the experiment result, the proposed method outperforms 3.34% in early-stage of the execution time that impacts the sensible performance, and exhibits negligible differences in terms of the energy consumption.

  • The resonance properties of circular vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) are studied by using a newly developed equivalent network approach. Optical parameters, such as the stop-band or the reflectivity of periodic Bragg mirrors and the resonance wavelength, are explored for the design of these structures. To evaluate the differential quantum efficiency and the threshold current density, a transverse resonance condition of circular modal transmission-line theory is also utilized. This approach dramatically reduces the computational time as well as gives an explicit insight to explore the optical characteristics of circular VCSELs.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify and manage the problem of components discontinuity in the future based on the implementation of information systems to solve the problem of discontinuance of militaries parts, so as to solve the problem of discontinuance of components in the operation of the weapon systems and reduce excessive expenditure due to aging of the weapon system. The purpose is to prevent the discontinuance of components in the future by up-dating the production phenomena of parts manufactures periodically. Defense industries and R&D perood can expand users convenience by supporting selection of more efficient parts in weapon systems development and information of vast components information systems.
