  • The purpose of this study is to assess the relationships of alcohol consumption patterns to mental distress and self-rated health. Data of 19,856 adult drinkers over 19 years of age and older from the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were evaluated by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Risks of experiencing perceived high stress, depressive symptoms and suicidal thoughts were higher in alcohol use disorder group in male, whereas the risks were higher in both alcohol use disorder and hazardous drinking groups in female, reflecting higher susceptibility to mental distress. In both male and female, former drinkers presented poor self-rated health compared with low-risk drinkers, although no difference was found in the prevalence of mental distress. Specialized mental health management measures for female drinkers are required, and former drinkers are suggested to be assessed separately from never or low-risk drinkers for their physical and mental health status.

In this study, the 2019 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey was used, and a total of 57,303 middle·high school students were selected. Controlling adolescents' age, school record, economic status, residence type, subjective health and body type perception, and the dietary life variables designed with breakfast, fresh foods(fruit, vegetables, milk, water), processed foods(carbonate beverage, energy beverage, sweet beverage, fast food) were analyzed to have an effects on the stress recognition of adolescents. Breakfast had a negative(-) effect on stress perception in all genders of adolescents, and in the case of fresh food, water for boys and fruit for girls had the highest negative(-) effect on stress perception, and in the case of processed foods, energy drink was the dietary factor that had the highest positive(+) effect on adolescents' stress perception. These results suggest that it is necessary to develop a dietary education program tailored to the gender of adolescents to improve their stress perception, and to provide continuous guidance to form a healthy diet.

  • This study describes the relationships between aircraft noise and stress and subjective noisy perception by comparing with two areas where the airport is adjacent or not. One area is Yipam-dong and Hak-dong expected to have louder aircraft noise because Kangnung Airport is near the area, and the other area is Songjung-dong as a control. For this study, we used telephone-survey which was targeted to two hundreds people of each area through the random sampling method. The design of the study is cross sectional study and the unit of analysis is a person. As the result of the multiple regression and logistic analysis, under the control of the other control variables, the both stress levels and subjective noisy perception of Yipam-dong and Hak-dong people significantly higher than that of Songjung-dong people and the people graduated middle school had significantly higher both stress levels and subjective noisy perception than the people graduated high school. In the future more studies have to be made that include concrete medical and psychiatric health problems.
