Methods: This study utilized data from the 13th (2017) Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey. A total of 29,337 schoolgirls were analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using PASW Statistics 21.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). The rate of using supplementary oral hygiene devices was 1.383 times higher in the underweight group and 1.091 times in the normal-weight group than in the obese group. Compared to the obese group, the experience rate of the sealant was 1.407 times in the underweight group. Compared to the obese group, the scaling experience rate was 1.282 times higher for the underweight group and 1.205 times for the normal-weight group. Conclusions: These results suggest that individual health behaviors are interrelated. There is a need for an integrated approach in the planning and implementation of future health promotion strategies, and it would be useful to design a program that considers health characteristics such as BMI.

ANOVA was used to get scores concerning knowledge of oral health care by general characteristics, and Pearson correlation was used to analyze correlation between recognition of oral health, oral disease prevention, and knowledge of oral health. Results : The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The percentage of those who had visited a dental clinic (hospital) within the previous one year (p<0.01) and had a regular oral examination (p<0.05) was higher in female students than in male ones, and percentage of those who had experienced oral health education (p<0.01) and who had regular oral examination (p<0.001) was highest in 11th graders. The percentage of those who used oral health products (p<0.01) and had pit and fissure sealing (p<0.01) was significantly higher among low-grade students, and the percentage of those who had scaling (p<0.01) was significantly higher among high-grade students. 2. Knowledge of oral health management was higher in female students (12.6) than in male ones (11.2) (p<0.001). Conclusions : A systematic oral health education program is necessary to help high school students improve recognition, prevention, and knowledge concerning oral health care, and continuous attention and efforts must be given to activate continuous oral health care implemented at the elementary level by inducing secondary school students to go on with it.

  • This study examined the effects of the levels of depression and oral health on the quality of life in workers participating in a self-sufficiency program in the Seoul metropolitan area. As for the study method, a questionnaire survey was conducted from July 26 to September 5, 2020, targeting 569 workers participating in a self-sufficiency program. Depression, Perio-Quotient Index, self-diagnosed oral symptoms, and oral health quality of life were the survey items investigated. The results were as follows. In the workers with systemic diseases, depression, Perio-Quotient Index, oral symptoms, and oral health quality of life were all negative. The level of depression was highly negative in both Perio-Quotient Index, oral symptoms, and oral health quality of life, showing statistically significant differences. In addition, depression showed a strong negative correlation with the Perio-Quotient Index, oral symptoms, and oral health quality of life. Depression, Perio-Quotient Index, and particularly oral symptoms negatively affected oral health and the quality of life. As workers participating in a self-sufficiency program are vulnerable to oral health problems, oral health education is required for the correct awareness and management of oral health, and oral health policy improvement for socially vulnerable groups is essential to ensure continued oral health management.
