Nearly a half of the accidents the old people had take place in home. Home safety will be more important than ever in rapidly increasing old aged in Korea. The purpose of this paper is to search the general characteristics of domestic accidents related to living environment of the old people experienced. The number of 248 respondents who had experienced of housing related accidents since recent 10 years were selected from 500 interviews with 65 years old and over during April 4th-26th, 2008. About a half of respondents had experienced home accidents. The entrance is the most common places the home accidents occurred, followed by bathrooms and stairs. flooring materials and raised floors are the most dangerous spots. Both places and dangerous objects are related each other. The place is also related to the type of dwelling. Slipping and tripping over most frequently happen in home accidents. It is related to the place like slipping in a bathroom or stairs, and tripping over in entrances. Mostly, legs and arms are injured by the home accidents. A safe home facilitates the old to live healthy and independent in their own places. A safe home for the old is a kind of new issues in Korea. Related policies and researches are about to sprout.
Korea's transportation paradigm is shifting from a vehicle-centered to a pedestrian-oriented society. Therefore, the interest in pedestrian safety and the improvement of pedestrian environment is also increasing. However, the level of traffic safety in Korea is still severe. It is needed to improve pedestrian safety and pedestrian environment. This study studied pedestrian-vehicle accident data provided by the Traffic Accident Analysis System(TAAS) for 2013-2015 to build a safe walking environment around school zones, and the relation between the school zones and pedestrian-vehicle traffic accidents were identified through the geographic information system(GIS) and spatial regression model. The main results are as follows. First, both road and public transportation factors are likely to increase pedestrian traffic accidents in school zones. Second, regarding land-use factors, residential, commercial, and industrial areas are found to increase pedestrian traffic crashes. On the other hand, mixed use is likely to play a role on the reduction of pedestrian traffic accidents. Finally, it has been shown that high development density also has a positive effect on pedestrian traffic accidents in school zones.

Safety accidents are frequently occurring in day care centers in recent years. The number of types of safety accidents is bumping into, falling, burning, school bus accident, insertion... etc., and the number of children who have died due to such accidents is increasing steadily every year. Therefore, it is urgent to prevent accidents at day care centers. IoT (Internet of Things) is managed by connecting various sensors and related products from the living space to the Internet in order to prevent them from being dangerous. In particular, IoT products can be automatically controlled by smart phones and sensors anytime and anywhere, thus saving energy, time, convenience and prompt accuracy. This paper proposes a research model to prevent and respond to disasters by using SK LoRa communication network and Arduino, which are Internet access networks for building disaster management in schools, kindergartens and day care centers. And various sensors needed for building disaster management express various safety states in the building and suggests a system that can control the residential environment by transmitting and receiving data to smart phone.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the safety issues with regard to architectural elements in housing. Causes of accidents and threats to health are reviewed for 'safety' aspects. Threats to health tend to draw more attention due to recent increase of SHS and its public perceptions. The majority of victims by accidents in residential houses are on juveniles aged under 14 in bathrooms and living rooms. Non-slip finish materials are recommended to floors for access and circulation and protective pads to furniture edges. Colored glass may increase the safety of the windows in the living room. Handles and non-slip mats will be a good addition for the safety. Human scale design of the kitchen system is mandatory and appropriate size of storages for hazardous equipment are to be provided. Passive air ventilation for better air quality by dwellers in residence is occasionally used whereas large-scale apartments provide mechanical ventilation to supplement the volume of fresh air. Since the internal air quality is proved one of the major causes of atopic and respiratory diseases, steady effort to achive better air quality utilizing appropriate materials, plants and equipment is mandatory. Frequent cleaning and the use of anti-fungus materials are necessary because House Dust Mites are believed to be one of main causes of such diseases.

Recently, large and small fires have been happening more often in Korea. Fire is one of the most frequent disasters along with traffic accidents in korean cities, and this frequency is closely related to the land use and the type of facilities. Therefore, in this study, the significance of fires was analyzed by considering land use, facility types, human and social factors and using 10 years of fire data in Jinju city. Based on this, OLS (Ordinary Least Square) regression analysis, SLM (Spatial Lag Model) and SEM (Spatial Error Model) using space weights, were compared and analyzed considering the location of the fire and each factor, then a statistical model with high suitability was presented. As a result, LISA analysis of spatial distribution patterns of fires in Jinju city was conducted, and it was proved that the frequency of fires was high in the order as follow, central commercial area, industrial area and residential area. Multiple regression analysis was performed by integrating demographic, social, and physical variables. Therefore, the three models were compared and analyzed by applying spatial weighting to the derived factors. As a result of the significance test, the spatial error model was analyzed to be the most significant. The facilities that have the highest correlation with fire occurrence were second type neighborhood facilities, followed by detached house, first type neighborhood facilities, number of households, and sales facilities. The results of this study are expected to be used as significant data to identify factors and manage fire safety in urban areas. Also, through the analysis of the standard deviation ellipsoid, the distribution characteristics of each facility in the residential area, industrial area, and central commercial area among the use areas were analyzed. In, the second type neighborhood facility with the highest fire risk was concentrated in the center. The results of these studies are expected to be used as useful data for identifying factors and managing fire safety in urban areas.

In recent years, fast growing cities in Korea are showing signs of being vulnerable to more disasters as their population and facilities increase and intensify. In particular, fire is one of the most common disasters in Korea's cities, along with traffic accidents. Therefore, in this study, we analyze what type of factors affect the fire that threatens urban people. Fire data were acquired for 10 years, from 2007 to 2017, in Jinju, Korea. Spatial distribution pattern of fire occurrence in Jinju was assessed through the spatial autocorrelation analysis. First, spatial autocorrelation analysis was carried out to grasp the spatial distribution pattern of fire occurrence in Jinju city. In addition, correlation and multiple regression analysis were used to confirm spatial dependency and abnormality among factors. Based on this, OLS (Ordinary Least Square) regression analysis was performed using space weighting considering fire location and spatial location of each facility. As a result, First, LISA (Local Indicator of Spatial Association) analysis of the occurrence of fire in Jinju shows that the most central commercial area are fire department, industrial area, and residential area. Second, the OLS regression model was analyzed by applying spatial weighting, focusing on the most derived factors of multiple regression analysis, by integrating population and social variables and physical variables. As a result, the second kind of neighborhood living facility showed the highest correlation with the fire occurrence, followed by the following in the order of single house, sales facility, first type of neighborhood living facility, and number of households. The results of this study are expected to be useful for analyzing the fire occurrence factors of each facility in urban areas and establishing fire safety measures.

The study is based on an urban park design that is designed in consideration of the characteristics of Uijeongbu City, applied with adequate functions for the environment and showcasing the unique scenery in relation to the relocation of the US Air Force Camp Falling Water. The bases of the design are: the reasonable convergence of the square and park in consideration of the site characteristics; the application of an urban context as the park is located near a station; and the realization of an eco-friendly space. This study is based on foundation research regarding a review of urban square patterns, particular items in planning in relation to modern urban parks and the adaptability of the park in the future. Regarding space usage, the design is applied with notable ideas that allow the space to make its own characteristics through voluntary user activity in conjunction with the environment that will allow the park to cope with changes in the future, as opposed to a space that users experience through pre-determined programs. Below are the focal points of the design. First, the park is designed as an empty space which may accommodate the urban structural context of and usage patterns for being a field of the city ecology that changes and develops, beyond a passively-created square pattern. Such open spaces have a continuity which allows it to adapt to the development of the city. In addition, the design facilitates spontaneous processes through changes in usage pattern and time. Second, the design includes the message that the park and the city, natural things and artificial things, must communicate and network with each other. Hence the park shall not be an isolated green island within the city, but is an open space accommodating the demands for open area from nearby commercial, public and residential facilities; the park shall include a field that can accommodate a variety of programs. Third, the park is designed to encourage the effect of direct and indirect practical education by reflecting a physical plan as well as interesting experience design methods to lower carbon emissions and to create and maintain an eco-friendly space, the basis of a zero-emissions city.
