  • A taxonomic study of the marine sponges was conducted with the materials collected from Gageodo Island (Sohuksando), Korea from August 1999 to July 2001. The sponges were identified into 35 species, 23 genera, 16 families, six orders, two subclasses and a class. Among them, two of Polymastia murrayi Burton, 1959 and Clathria (Thalysias) spicata Gray, 1924, are newly recorded to Korean fauna, and Stylocordyla korenna n. sp. is new to science.

  • A stargazer fish, Uranoscopus tosae of family Uranoscopidae was collected for the first time in Kunsan, Korea. The U. tosae was similar to U. oligolepis in exomorphological features but had sharply distinguishable from U. oligolepis in the several characteristics, U. tosae had the embedded cycloid scales on the nape between both lateral lines. 4 preopercular spines, anterior tubular and posterior slit of nostril pores, and narrower and longer respiratory valve than orbit. No other patterns were presented on the surface of head and body.

  • Description and identifications of 6 species belonging to genus Phintella from Korea are in insufficient and inaccurate situation. In the present paper, redescriptions illustrations and identification key are provided for 7 species of genus Phintella including P. popovi newly recorded in Korean spider fauna, and Ocius munitus described by Wesolowska (1981s) was synonymized to P.cavaleriei. For the author's identiication and pairing to be valid multivariate analysis was performed with 13 RVCs below STD 0.05 to 134 individuals. The result of discriminant analysis carried out with 13 RVCs of 134 individuals was not satisfactory, but cluster analysis performed with mean ratio values of 14 OTUs to 13 RVCs showed the same result with author's pairing except P.abnormis , which has larger dissimilarity than the pairs of the others. So pairing of 7 species was possible as a whole because one species only failed in pairing , even though this is imperful result. This method to be helpful to pairing test and identification if it were to improve.

  • This study carried out to scanning and select the antimicrobial pharmaceuticals which were suppress the rottening of fresh ginseng. We are isolated 20 kinds of microorganisms from rotten ginseng. In these of the microorganisms, five bacteria, fresh ginseng root-rottening, are identified to Pseudomonas putida, Pseudomonas putida biotype A, Bacillus spp, Enterobacter cloacae, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. Particularly. Bacillus spp was rapidly rotted the ginseng root, compared with the others. The antimicrobial activity were tested with 19 kinds of water extracts, and 34 kinds of essential oils. The water extract of Terminaliae Fructus, and Schiandra chinensis are strongly inhibited the growth of bacteria causing the ginseng root-rottening. And 5 kind of essential oils are inhibited bacteria. It was regarded that the water extract of Terminaliae Fructus has weekly water insoluble and polar antimicrobial components.
