  • The flora of the Hallyo-Haesang National Park were surveyed from May to September, 1998. The flora of this park were listed as 117 families, 296 genus, 373 species, 53 varieties, 7 forms and 3 hybrid in the Namhae, 73 families, 129 genus, 153 species, 16 varieties and 2 forms in Karasan(Mountain), 97 families, 280 genus, 475 species, 53 varieties, 5 forms and 1 hybrid in the Tongyong. Construction of road, recreational facilities and ornamental farms were considered as the major causes of destruction of vegetation conservational measures must be applied urgently to conserve the distinct vegetation and flora of this areas.

  • Fishfauna were investigated in the Baekdudaegan Mountain area (Manbokdae-siribong) streams. At the uppertributary of Seomjin River, 17 species of 5 families were collected and the dominant species was Zacco temminki. Korean endemic species were six (35.3%) species, Acheiognathus koreensis, Coreoleuciscus splendidus, Squalidus gruacilis majimae, Microphysogobio yaluensis, Iksookimia longicorpus, and Odontobutis platycephala. Only Lampetra reissneri designated as a vulnerable species, was confirmed at the stream. At the upper streams of the Nakdong River, collected fishes were identified as 11 species of 3 families. The dominant species was Zacco temmincki, and two species (18.2%), Squalidus gracilis. majiimae and Ikosokimia longicorpus were Korean endemic.

  • This study focused on verifying the identification of freshwater fish species in Korea using Environmental DNA (eDNA) technique. The research of DNA is increasing in the field of ecology, since this is more sensitive of identify rather than traditional investigation method. Which is difficult to detect species hidden in water and be easily influenced by diverse factors (sites, bad weather, researchers and so on). We applied the pilot test in aquarium (Freshwater Fish Ecological Learning Center in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Do), where freshwater fish species are inhabits. We conducted to sampling and analyzing the sixteen water samples (50 species from 7 orders and 13 families) using MiFish primer set. The results showed that 45 species (90%) was investigated by eDNA. It highlight that eDNA with universal primer is possible to detect freshwater fish species of Korean. However, the errors on species identification seems to be caused by the primer that be not suited perfectly and the pollution such as aquarium, sampling collectors.

  • Various mathematical models have been widely studied recently in both fields of mathematics and ecology since they help us understand the dynamical process of population changes in biological species living in a certain habitat and give useful predictions. The world population model proposed by Malthus, a British economist, in his work 'An Essay on the Principle of Population' published in the period of 1789~1826 is one of the early mathematical models on population changes. Malthus' models and the carrying capacity models of Verhulst in 1845 were based on exponential type functions. The independent research field of mathematical ecology has been started from Lotka's works in 1920's. Since then various different mathematical models has been proposed and examined. This article mainly deals with single species population change models expressed in terms of ordinary differential equations.

  • Seed characteristics-weight, seed length and width, pure seed percentage are measured on 15 native herb species, and seeds of six native herb species were tested on the seedbed in the forest with autumn seeding. Seeds of 13 species including Aster scaber were very small; seed length is less than 7mm and seed width is less than 3mm pure seed percentages of 10 native herb speciesin-cluding Ligularia fischeriwere were much lower than 5%. Germination percent of five native herb species were significantly different among the growing sites. The mean germination percent was highest 47.00% for Angelica gigas, 38.25% for Ligularia fischeri, 30.88% for PimPinella brachycarpa, 15.75% for Aralia continetalis, 10.00% for Cirsium setidens, and the lowest 9.32% for Aster scaber.
