  • In this study, data from the 11th year of the Korean Welfare Panel Study (2016), the 12th year (2017), the 13th year (2018), and the 14th year (2019) were used to verify whether drinking problems in adults had an end-to-end effect on depression. The analysis showed that, first, the initial value of depression has a static (+) relationship with the initial value of problem drinking, and a significant relationship with the rate of change in problem drinking. Second, the supply and demand households showed a static relationship with the initial value of depression, the initial value of problem drinking. Third, in the case of people with disabilities, the relationship between the initial value of depression, the initial value of problem drinking, and the amulet (-). Therefore, it was suggested that the development of drinking problem prevention programs and education should be actively carried out in school education before adulthood.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the auto-regression effect between the elderly's assets and depression and life satisfaction, and to approach the influence of assets and depression on the elderly's life from a longitudinal perspective. For this purpose, the data for the 9th year (2014), 11th year (2016), and 13th year (2018) of the Korea Welfare Panel were used. As a result of the analysis, First, the assets, depression and life satisfaction of the elderly have a lasting effect on the passage of time, and the assets, depression and life satisfaction of the previous point in time (B=.694, B=.725, p<.001), depression (B=.258, B=.331 and p<.001) and life satisfaction (B=.264, B=.265, p<.001). Second, cross-recursion coefficients show how the relationship between the assets of the elderly and depression and the satisfaction of life affects each other over time, and the assets of the older person at the previous point in time (B=.010, B=.011, p<.001), the assets of the older persons at previous times are subsequently satisfied with their lives (B=.128, B=.124, p<.001). Based on the results of the above analysis, it is necessary to support the elderly's asset management service and education to prevent depression, such as continuous asset utilization education.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this longitudinal study was to identify the relationship between the readiness for hospital discharge and self-care changes in an early stage of liver transplantation after discharge. Methods: Data of 75 liver transplant recipients within one year of surgery from a transplantation center from May 2019 to May 2020 were collected for this study. Their readiness for discharge was measured before discharge. Self-care after liver transplantation was evaluated at one week, one month, and three months of discharge at outpatient visits. Linear mixed model was used to evaluate the statistical relationship. Results: The readiness for hospital discharge was significantly higher when the caregiver was a spouse (p=.027), with fewer post-transplantation days (p=.027), absence of acute rejection (p=.004), or high self-efficacy (p<.001). As a result of the linear mixed model analysis, the higher the discharge readiness score, the higher the self-care score (β=0.29, p<.001). However, after three months, their self-care had decreased regardless of their level of readiness for hospital discharge compared to one week after discharge. Conclusion: Improving the readiness before discharge is essential to enhance self-care. Also, active intervention at 3 months of discharge should be performed to check and promote their long-term self-care.

  • Purpose: This study examined the reciprocal relationships between depression and income, and gender differences in these relationships among older adults in South Korea. Methods: Using 2015 to 2019 of the Korea Welfare Panel Study (KoWePS), we studied 6,070 older adults (2,394 men and 3,676 women) aged 60 years over in 2015. The generalized estimating equation was employed to explore the effect of an individual income on depression and the reverse causal link-that of depression on income. Results: The study found the reciprocal relationships between income and depression. Income has a significant impact on depression. Higher-income was linked to decreased risks of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression (CES-D) scores among older adults (B = - 0.121, p < 0.001). Estimates of the reverse causal link show that higher CES-D scores were also linked to income reduction among Korean older adults (B = - 0.007, p < 0.001). In addition, we also observed gender differences in the impact of income on depression but not in the reverse causal link. Income has more detrimental to psychological consequence for older men (B = - 0.108, p < 0.001) than older women (B = - 0.057, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The finding implies that both psychological and social protection policies for the elderly are needed in view of gender perspective.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the temperament characteristics associated with stuttering subtypes (persistent and recovered) over time and the relationship between those characteristics and stuttering severity. This four-year longitudinal study covered 41 preschool children who stutter (CWS) and 30 preschool children who do not stutter (the CWNS group). At the final visit, 27 CWS were classified as the Recovered group and 14 CWS were classified as the Persistent group. Using the Children's Behavior Questionnaire-Short Form, each participant's temperament characteristics were measured twice: at one year and two years after the initial visit. The three subscale scores (Extraversion, Negative Affectivity, and Effortful Control) and the 15 component scores were analyzed, and they were used for between-group and between-visit comparisons. The Persistent group showed a significantly higher Negative Affectivity subscale score at every visit than the Recovered and CWNS groups. Within this subscale, significant group differences were found in the 'Fear' and 'Anger/Frustration' components, demonstrating that the Persistent group scored higher than the Recovered and CWNS groups. There was no significant correlation between the subscale and component scores and the stuttering severity scores within the Persistent group at any visit. These results support the proposition that these two stuttering subtypes have different temperament characteristics; they also imply that temperament might be influenced by stuttering experience over time.

  • The objective of this study was to verify the longitudinal reciprocal causal relationship between depression and the somatic symptoms of depression among adolescents through an autoregressive cross-lagged model using data from the Korean Children & Youth Panel Survey. The subjects of this study included 1,968 adolescents, who participated in the second, fourth, and sixth Korean Children & Youth Panel Surveys. The results showed that both depression and the somatic symptoms of depression at a previous point in time affect depression and the somatic symptoms of depression at a later point in time. It was also found that depression at a previous point in time has a cross-lagged effect on the somatic symptoms of depression at a later point in time, implying that more severe depression at a previous point in time leads to increased severity of somatic symptoms at a later point in time. It was found that the somatic symptoms of depression at a previous point in time have a cross-lagged effect on depression at a later point in time, indicating that more severe somatic symptoms of depression at a previous point in time lead to increased severity of depression at a later point in time. This study is significant in that it provides baseline information about nursing interventions for adolescent mental health.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the bilateral and autoregressive relationships of corporate social performance and corporate financial performance by using dynamic panel model based on fixed effect analysis method. To satisfy this study purpose, 6 years data (2008-2013) of top 1,000 corporations in Korea was collected and finally 430 corporations were used for dynamic panel analysis. The main results were as follows. First, the preceding financial performance explains the following corporate social performance in positive direction. Second, the preceding corporate social performance does not explain the following financial performance. Third, the preceding corporate social performance explains the following corporate social performance in positive direction. Fourth, the preceding financial performance explains the following financial performance in positive direction. This result shows that slack resources theory is supported and good management theory is not supported. In addition, there is a significant relationship between the preceding corporate social performance and the following corporate social performance. Lastly, this study broadens and deepens previous understanding on corporate social philanthropy and discusses theoretical meanings and implications for future study.
