In the fields of rail and road design, most vertical alignment design have been thus far heavily dependent upon trial-and-errors of experienced engineers. However, it has long been inefficient in productivity of designing process. In order to overcome this inefficiency, this paper presents the optimal vertical alignment design method using mathematical optimization techniques. For optimization, mathematical model to minimize the construction cost is formulated and the separable programming technique and the Zoutendijk method are introduced to solve it. As result, it is shown that this optimization technique can give efficient solutions to all vertical alignment design fields with properly-estimated cost function.

This paper presents the modeling method of nonlinear circuits with lumped elements by using a hybrid Haar -wavelet MRTD/FDTD techniques. To analyze nonlinear circuits with lumped elements, the Haar-wavelet MRTD scheme is applied to the entire structure of interest and the conventional FDTD scheme is locally used to describe the characteristics of the lumped elements. To validate the scheme, microstrip structure with lumped elements and a single diode mixer are simulated.
This research introduces the method to measure cross-slope using Road Safety Survey and Analysis Vehicle(RoSSAV) with multiple sensors. Cross-slope is an important element like horizontal alignment and vertical alignment in evaluating safety of the roads. In many cases, cross-slope is different from drawings due to frequent overlays. It is extremely difficult to measure cross slope at the roads which has huge traffic volume. Therefore, the algorithm, which can be used when driving the RoSSAV with CPS/INS and Laser Scanner sensors was developed for measuring the cross-slop. Also, in order to examine the algorithm, the superelevation was measured by Laser Scanner and GPS/INS system during travelling and the result was verified by statistical verification.
The road safety depend on many road factors like vertical alignment, horizontal alignment and road cross section angle. These data are hardly to get with drawings, and the real data are differ from drawings because of road pavement overlay, etc. To get these data, so many time and cost are needed, moreover it is dangerous work in heavy traffic road. In this study we obtained the road safety data with RoSSAV(Road Safety Survey & Analysis Vehicle) of Korea Institute of Construction Technology in accordance with traffic flow, and make analysis of road safety with the vertical alignment, horizontal alignment and road cross section angle data. We derived the safety improvement method in Young-dong accident prone spot and described detail method in this paper.

This study has been developed the way that evaluates the road safety using the speed of individual vehicles at curve sections in 2-lane rural highways. For this study, we developed variation of operational speed for the individual vehicle using the speed of vehicles in 96points of selected roads. Drawing out of variation of operational speed for the individual vehicle, estimation models for speed variation of individual vehicles considering horizontal alignments and vertical alignments of the roads have been developed. These models presents the way to evaluate road safety out of the operational speed and acceleration of individual vehicles. Considering safety and based on the results of these study above, some regular spots are ranked by "good", "fair", "bad". The results that this study showed in this paper could be useful to derive some particular spots that needs to be improve in terms of safety.

The representative design elements of the road geometric structure are longitudinal slope, horizontal curve radius, super elevation, and transition curve. According to the function of a road, the design standards of these elements is applied by diverse combinations of them. This study divided expressway into homogeneous segments based on longitudinal slope and horizontal curve radius. And then, data required for analysis were matched to each segment, and the safety performance function was built by using the established data. crash modification factors which can explain traffic accident exposure rate were calculated. When the threshold value of horizontal curve radius R=1,000 m was set to 1.0, the crash modification factors at R=300 m was calculated as 1.33, which means that the accident exposure rate is increased by 33%. When the threshold value of the longitudinal slope 0% was set to 1.0, the crash modification factors demonstrated that the accident exposure rate decreases on the upward slope and the accident exposure rate increases on the downward slope. The results of this study can be used as basic information in the design of expressway geometries during the improvement or the construction of expressways.

The purpose of this study is to discuss the application of the Latent Growth Model to measure the outcomes of public library. For outcome measurements, library circulation data were collected to identify longitudinal changes of library users' reading habit. The latent growth model was applied to statistically test the changes over time. The circulation data of 95,962 users registered in some public libraries in Seoul, ranged between 2010 and 2015, were analyzed using unconditional model, conditional model, and growth mixture model which all are called the latent growth model. The results show that the intercept of the model is 4.19 and the slop is 0.24 in the linear growth model. The gender difference in two latent variables including intercept and slop was a shade difference. The result from the growth mixture model analysis, additionally indicates that the number of books checked out by children under age 10 is rapidly increased. The application of the latent growth model in library fields is expected to widely spread out for the longitudinal data analysis.

Since power and control cables have narrow bandwidth due to their loss at high frequencies, it is difficult to detect the weak fault using conventional reflectometry. It is because the reflected wave caused by the weak fault is overlapped and hidden by the ripple of the strong reflected wave from the end of the cable. This paper proves that the reflected wave from the weak fault can be considered to be linearly superposed on the strong reflected wave from the end of the cable based on the transmission line theory. Then, the weak fault point is experimentally diagnosed using the difference between reflection coefficients before and after the fault generation.

In this paper, a new dynamic model for modal analysis of a rotating cantilever beam with a tip-mass is developed. The nonlinear strain such as von Karman type and the corresponding linearized stress are used to consider the geometric nonlinearity, and Euler-Bernoulli beam theory is applied in the present model. The nonlinear equations of motion and the associated boundary conditions which include the inertia of the tip-mass are derived through Hamilton's principle. In order to investigate modal characteristics of the present model, the linearized equations of motion in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position are obtained by using perturbation technique to the nonlinear equations. Since the effect of the tip-mass is considered to the boundary condition of the flexible beam, weak forms are used to discretize the linearized equations. Compared with equations related to stiffening effect due to centrifugal force of the present and the previous model, the present model predicts the dynamic characteristic more precisely than the another model. As a result, the difference of natural frequencies loci between two models become larger as the rotating speed increases. In addition, we observed that the mode veering phenomenon occurs at the certain rotating speed.

The core technologies of the current transport network are OAM and protection switching to meet the sub-50ms protection switching time via a path redundancy when a link or node failure occurs. The transport networks owned by public network operators, central/local governments, and major enterprises are individually configured and managed with service resiliency in each own protected sub-network. When such networks are cascaded, it is also important to provide a node resiliency between two protected sub-networks. However, the linear protection switching in packet transport networks, such as MPLS-TP and Carrier Ethernet, does not define a solution of dual node interconnection. Although Ethernet ring protection switching covers the dual node interconnection scheme, a large amount of duplicated data frames may be flooded when a failure occurs on an adjacent (sub) ring. In this paper, we suggest a dual node interconnection scheme with linear protection switching technology in multiple protected sub-networks. And we investigate how various protected sub-network combinations with a proposed linear or ring protection process impact the service resiliency of multiple protected sub-networks through extensive experiments on link and interconnected node failures.
